Posting with mod approval. And to be clear up front: this is my own project, it's free with no ads, and I'm not looking for customers, just sharing what we built.

My partner is German and wanted to learn Catalan. We opened Duolingo and it turns out their Catalan course only exists from Spanish. Nothing from English, nothing from German. The other big apps are the same. So if you're moving to Catalonia, Valencia or the Balearics and you don't speak Spanish yet, there is almost nothing that will teach you Catalan directly. We got tired of that and built it ourselves.

It's called Learn Catalan and it's at learncatalan.eu. You don't need an account.

It goes from A1 to C2: 72 units, around 500 lessons and about 4,350 exercises of eight kinds (multiple choice, building sentences, fill in the gap, listening, matching, spelling words out letter by letter for conjugations, dictation and pronunciation).

The syllabus isn't made up. We took the official Catalan course programme of the Generalitat and the CPNL, and the thematic areas, communicative functions and grammar index of each level come from there. So it lines up with what the official certificates test, which matters if you ever need one for a job.

There's also a vault of 2,517 words with proper spaced repetition, a placement test at the start if you already know some, and an exam at the end of each level. The audio is pre-generated with a Catalan voice, not a Spanish one reading Catalan, and there's a library of 112 real Catalan podcasts through the embedded Spotify player. The interface exists in English, German and Japanese.

It still doesn't score your pronunciation through the microphone, the podcasts have no transcripts, and there is no App Store app; it's a web app you install to your home screen.

If you're heading somewhere Catalan is spoken and Spanish isn't your thing yet, this is who we built it for. Feedback is very welcome.

La meva parella és alemanya i volia aprendre català. Vam obrir el Duolingo i resulta que el curs de català només existeix des del castellà. Des de l'alemany no hi és, i des de l'anglès tampoc. I a Mallorca hi viu molta gent que parla alemany o anglès i que no passarà mai pel castellà per arribar al català. Doncs ens ho hem fet nosaltres.

Va d'A1 a C2 seguint el programa oficial dels certificats de català, amb unes 500 lliçons, exercicis de vuit tipus, repetició espaiada per al vocabulari i una biblioteca de podcasts catalans reals. La interfície és en anglès, alemany i japonès.

Una cosa que vull dir clara: el curs ensenya català estàndard, no recull l'article salat ni les formes verbals balears. Per a algú que comença de zero crec que igualment és un punt de partida útil, però ho dic perquè no sorprengui ningú.

Si teniu veïns o coneguts alemanys o anglesos que vulguin aprendre la llengua, està fet exactament per a ells. I si hi trobau errors, digau-m'ho.

Va d'A1 a C2: 72 unitats, unes 500 lliçons i uns 4.350 exercicis de vuit tipus (opció múltiple, construir la frase, omplir el buit, escoltar, aparellar, formar paraules lletra a lletra per a les conjugacions, dictat i pronunciació).

El temari no és inventat. Vam agafar el programa oficial de català de la Generalitat i del CPNL (Bàsic, Elemental, Intermedi, Suficiència i Superior), i d'allà surten les àrees temàtiques, les funcions comunicatives i l'índex gramatical de cada nivell. O sigui que s'estudia el mateix contingut en què es basen els certificats.

També hi ha un cofre de 2.517 paraules amb repetició espaiada de debò, amb dates de repàs reals i no un quiz a l'atzar. Les paraules que et surten a les lliçons hi entren soles. Al principi pots fer un test de nivell si ja en saps una mica, i cada nivell es tanca amb un examen.

L'àudio està pregenerat amb una veu catalana, no amb una veu castellana llegint català. I hi ha una biblioteca de 112 podcasts i programes catalans reals, amb el reproductor de Spotify incrustat, per anar passant del curs al català de veritat.

Tot el contingut existeix en anglès i en alemany: enunciats, traduccions i explicacions.

Encara no corregeix la pronunciació amb micròfon, els podcasts no tenen transcripció i no hi ha app d'App Store; és una web que t'instal·les a la pantalla d'inici com si fos una app.

Si coneixeu algú que vulgui aprendre català i no parli castellà, està fet exactament per a ell. I si hi trobeu errors, digueu-m'ho. Sóc catalanoparlant, i és a la part alemanya on és més fàcil que se m'hagi escapat alguna cosa.

I'd really like feedback, especially on the German side. I'm a native Catalan speaker, so that's where mistakes are most likely to be hiding. Same for anything that sounds off in the audio or any exercise that feels wrong.
