My first ever tinned fish experience!

My first ever tinned fish experience!

As my bank account continues to let out death rattles (I love being a non-salary teacher 😅🥲) and my freezer stockpiles are dwindling, I have finally begun my tinned fish journey!

Luckily I have access to some incredible local sourdough at a good price, so I tried a few variations on 2 pieces of toast for dinner tonight.

I used Trader Joe’s unsalted sardines in spring water because that’s what was in front of me when I decided I wanted to try tinned fish. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  1. only butter and Maldon sea salt, just a bite to see what we’ve got going on. Fine but nothing to write home about.

  2. squeezed some fresh lemon onto the butter and salt piece. Now we’re talking! Yummy, zingy, fresh.

  3. added some thinly sliced shallots and my homegrown microgreens to the butter and salt slice, enjoyed the rest of the slice as such. Really yummy!

  4. second piece was good Spanish olive oil, shallots, capers, microgreens, fresh lemon juice, and some whole grain mustard. Of course my sweet love, Maldon sea salt. This combo was delicious, and upon inhaling it I’m realizing why people are so crazy about this stuff.

An exciting new culinary adventure! Happy to be here.

Pictured about half of the olive oil toast, didn’t stop to take a picture sooner, too busy tasting.

Trade or sell me your size XL (or 1/2 in plus size) if this sweater vest top?

Hiiii

I was gifted this sweater vest top in size L and it’s SOOO cute but a bit too small on me, rides up on my chest and too small in the arms. Wanted to exchange but it’s sold out on the site. If anyone has this top in an XL or size 1 or 2 in the plus size range, I would love to buy it off you or trade you mine if you want a size L!

Trying not to cry about my gifted orchid

Hi all,

I teach kindergarten and was gifted this orchid by a sweet family. The kids wouldn’t leave it alone today and one almost knocked it over, and I didn’t have any secure spots to put it, so put it in my car. It sunny but wasn’t too hot outside today so in my hurry I told myself it would be fine. Unfortunately as the sun moved, my car became in direct sunlight and I’m scared I completely fried it.

To make matters worse, when I got home I was kind of freaking out, and I pulled it up to check the roots. A lot of the ends of the roots were like super crispy yellow and brown, so I trimmed off any that looked like that (not just silvery/white, I know that means they are just parched). I’m so sad it’s probably going to die. I’m giving it a bit of water now, not too much at once, and not sure what to do next.

I also live in an apartment where all windows except my tiny kitchen window are west-facing, so once again high offs of it just getting baked. And my kitchen faces a little alcove semi blocked by stairs, so idk that’s enough light.

Please help me save it 😞

Sorry in advance for the novel, TLDR at the end. Appreciate anyone who reads and helps.

Hi, I’m a 34H/HH UK size in the southeastern US looking for balconette bras to help give shape to my breasts that very much hang to the sides and appear flat/have lost a lot of volume at the top (like flat enough that braless in baggy tshirts, my daily uniform, people never think my chest is nearly as big as it is).

I need something that pulls them out of my armpits and gives a natural shape and separation without leaving me gapping at the top and spilling out the sides. I do NOT want to look really big but minimizers scare me (sensory issues). If it is anything really “high support” and feels like your breasts are on military lockdown, it’s not gonna fly. Don’t know if I’ll find my happy compromise but trying.

I am having a really hard time shopping because I don’t wear bras currently except for one Harper Wilde Bliss Plunge Bralette in XL that I love on the days I can handle it, so virtually no data on what fits me. I have major sensory issues with compression around the chest (what’s up autism gang?!), so for most of my life I have avoided bras like the plague. But what used to be my nice little C cups have just never stopped growing throughout my 20s, so I’m now at a 34H/HH and have no idea what to do with them.

I work outside pretty actively with kids, so realistically, bras at this point are probably more comfortable than the ungodly underboob sweat and the embarrassment/awkwardness of just having them swinging around all day, because at this point even my baggiest tshirts don’t hide them well and in just tired of all wardrobe decisions revolving around hiding my body.

Hard to know where to start since I have no bras to compare to, but these are my notes on my shape from what I can tell. I find a lot of this stuff confusing so just hoping these are accurate:

Projected
Center full
Wide, short root I think?
Attach low on my chest

Please, help me figure out where to start. Unfortunately I am very low income, so budget is a restriction and the main reason I haven’t just started buying and trying stuff. But I’m desperate, so if you think you have an amazing rec that is pricey, still drop it just in case.

TLDR: need a comfy unlined balconette bra (that’s the style I’ve seen most recommended for my shape) that works for my pancake boobs, doesn’t set off my compression sensory issues too terribly, and will give me a natural shape while still pulling them out of my armpits and off my tummy and giving me separation. Also doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Okay, some very basic questions but I was never really taught directly and want to make sure I’m not going to make myself sick.

How are we cleaning wooden cutting boards when we use them with raw meat? Just dish soap and a sponge/brush like any other hand-wash item? In my head that seems insufficient germ-wise because my mom always used a plastic one she could put in the dishwasher, but I’m guessing it’s just one of those beliefs you randomly formed as a kid and haven’t re-investigated with your adult brain lol. And are we using separate boards for raw meat vs veggies and cooked meat?

How often are we oiling them if we are cleaning them with soap and hot water multiple times a week? Seems like it would have to be pretty frequent bc of the hot water and soap, but then again, I don’t think anyone I know is oiling their boards more than a few times a year.

Honestly, I have the same questions basically about cast iron, like how often to actually wash with soap. I assume eventually you have to use some soap and then just re-season it, right? Not every time but at some point? How often? And how are we cleaning cast iron each time? Do daily use, I usually just rinse mine in the sink and scrub any stuck food off with a dish brush without soap and dry it with a paper towel to get any excess oil. Am I gross?

I know cast iron care can be a hot topic for some, but I just need to know the basics.

Hi everyone

I teach kindergarten at an outdoors-based school (ie we are outside 2-3hr/day, 5 days a week, hiking and doing lessons outside etc) and recently my kids and I have been finding whole, intact Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly wings just on the ground.

First of all, if anyone knows what in northern/central GA might be eating butterfly torsos and leaving the perfect wings behind, I’m dying to know. And yes, I know the kids aren’t torturing butterflies when I’m not looking and bringing me the wings because I found this full set myself on one of our trails!

What are your ideas of what I should do with them?? I know resin to make them into pendants or earrings is a go-to, but considering I have the full set plus a few extras (pic 2), I’m looking for other unique ideas too. Give me your weirdest and wildest!

My high school isn’t doing a reunion as far as I’ve heard, and I just love hosting, so I’m going to throw a Class of 2016/prom themed house party next month.

What are some deep cut atmospheric details that would immediately take you back to 2016? What prom themes/decor, popular color schemes, makeup styles, internet trends your school would have referenced to try to be cool, etc come to mind when you think of 2016?? Like all the little details that would actually make you feel like you’re going back in time?

I mostly have the music down but feel free to leave some song recs if you feel like they’re deep cuts I’ve probably forgotten.
