My first ever tinned fish experience!
As my bank account continues to let out death rattles (I love being a non-salary teacher 😅🥲) and my freezer stockpiles are dwindling, I have finally begun my tinned fish journey!
Luckily I have access to some incredible local sourdough at a good price, so I tried a few variations on 2 pieces of toast for dinner tonight.
I used Trader Joe’s unsalted sardines in spring water because that’s what was in front of me when I decided I wanted to try tinned fish. 🤷🏻♀️
only butter and Maldon sea salt, just a bite to see what we’ve got going on. Fine but nothing to write home about.
squeezed some fresh lemon onto the butter and salt piece. Now we’re talking! Yummy, zingy, fresh.
added some thinly sliced shallots and my homegrown microgreens to the butter and salt slice, enjoyed the rest of the slice as such. Really yummy!
second piece was good Spanish olive oil, shallots, capers, microgreens, fresh lemon juice, and some whole grain mustard. Of course my sweet love, Maldon sea salt. This combo was delicious, and upon inhaling it I’m realizing why people are so crazy about this stuff.
An exciting new culinary adventure! Happy to be here.
Pictured about half of the olive oil toast, didn’t stop to take a picture sooner, too busy tasting.
