Diners, Dine-ins and Dives Theme
Hey Cats, I’m trying to solo over this theme but I’m wondering if major pentatonic or minor pentatonic is better. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I’m wondering what a 1-3 hour set list looks like for a society gig these days. I was running a group that did regular society gigs in the Midwest before Covid. Things slowed down beforehand and eventually dried up entirely. I have since relocated to an area where there appears to be much more market (retirement communities, golf clubhouses, private parties, corporate events) and I am trying to prepare. Jazz combo, rhythm section with horn(s) and male vocalist.
I certainly have all the 30s-60s Standards already in my book, but are there tunes that an audience expects/requests to hear in 2026?
Send me a PM and I’ll give you Venmo details. $39 for the first 25 jazzers. $35 if you send a PM with a recording of you playing Spain perfectly. (10% discount if you’re self taught)
Just had a thought the other day. No one in my circle ever played soccer. Football, baseball, volleyball, kickball, and hockey in some communities. But never, and I mean Never, did anyone I know play soccer. I remember Pele and seeing news clips, but never played it or watched it. I was in the Midwest, was it different elsewhere?
SONNY ROLLINS, RIP. Was the last living musician in the iconic Art Kane 1958 Harlem Portrait photo. Here are all of them!!!!

I checked this sub and some TripAdvisor recommended options before taking the trip. Stayed at Harrah’s for a weekday stay. The Colorado River was nice. The $5 one-way Water Taxi made getting to other casinos inexpensive and easy. Most of the “strip” apart from Harrah’s is very walkable and seemed safe, but there is almost nothing on the strip except the 7-8 casinos and stores/restaurants attached to them. A few bars, a couple of restaurants. Not even self contained gift shops!
There were definitely food deals to be had ( a number of $10 budget type meals) and also some nicer meals available. The rooms were clean but the entire town seemed a bit tired and some close to needing life support. (Staff shortages and an aging service population was noticeable). There are several boat tours up and down the Colorado but most are at least $100 pp. All casinos still comp drinks while gambling, but finding a cocktail waitress ranged from very easy (Harrah’s, Riverside) to almost nonexistent.
Don Laughlin’s Riverside has bowling, a movie theater, and car museum but other than that, you can drink, sit at a pool, a table or a slot machine and that’s about it. I can’t comment on Bullhead City, but there didn’t appear to be too much across the river from our view.
It’s certainly a cheaper stay and cheaper food than Vegas, but a lively atmosphere, live music and entertainment is mostly reserved for weekends and apparently not this time of year.
Treme hasn’t been mentioned here in quite awhile. Strongly recommend watching it or rewatching it. Incredible cameos and live playing scenes by legendary musicians.
