Top speed for heavy riders on Trail 125?

I weigh about 265. I’m 6’3.

I love everything about the Trail 125, but I’m scared I’m too big for it. There are plenty of threads and comments from bigger riders who seem to say the bike will handle the weight.

But I’m worried about being able to keep up with the flow of traffic on my in-town commute. Can I reliably do 50mph at my weight? Will the bike struggle at that speed?

Thanks!

Jon boat for a non-fisherman?

I’m looking for a simple, reliable way to cruise around some local lakes and rivers.

I live in the Ozarks and have access to a fairly wide variety of water in my area. I don’t need to go excessively fast and I don’t need to haul a bunch of people or gear.

Ideally I’d like to just throw a cooler and maybe some camping gear in the boat and then take off to go explore shorelines, sandbars, etc. I basically just want to cruise around in it and have it take me to see some interesting places.

Most jon boats seem geared toward fishing. However, I don’t fish. I considered putting a trolling motor on a big kayak, but I don’t think that would get me around quite as fast as I’d like.

I considered an inflatable, but I hate the idea of a puncture. Probably unlikely, but still, I like the idea of metal much more than something inflatable.

I follow a few people who have 14’ modified V Jon boats with 25hp motors. Does something like that seem to be the best option for what I’m trying to do?

The guys I follow are all fishing, and since I don’t fish I’m wondering if there’s a different option I should be considering.

I could look for a simple little fiberglass runabout, but I don’t think they’d be as easy to move around as a Jon boat. They don’t seem as portable or as durable.

So is a jon still the best way to cruise around a lake or river at a fun speed with some camping gear, all while staying pretty affordable and low maintenance/fuss?

Thanks

Uber reliable metric cruiser without bags?

I have a bagger that I love, but I’m looking to add something a bit more nimble for around town.

I love Harleys, but would appreciate the lower cost of a metric bike. Also looking for maximum reliability. I love that many Japanese bikes have shaft drives and hydraulic cam chain tensioners.

I’ve read that the Vulcan line is great. Same with the VTX1300 and 1800. Also the Road Stars. I’ve done some googling, and all the model variants get a bit overwhelming. I also know they have great reputations for reliability, but it makes me a little nervous that many of these bikes are almost 30 years old.

Since I’ve already got a bike with bags and a windshield, is there a version of any of these metric bikes without bags that I should be looking out for? I’d love to put beach bars on it and somewhat forward controls (I think I’d be fine with floorboards - I just don’t want pegs in the mid position).

Basically would like to stretch out and have a relaxing ride for around town with no need for wind protection or bags.

Also fwiw I’m a fairly large rider at 6’4 265. I don’t need gobs of power but I’d probably prefer a larger bike to a smaller one.

Thanks for any guidance!

Deluxe or Wide Glide as second bike to road king?

Hello, I’ve got a 2000 road king that I love, and am looking to add a slightly newer second bike for shorter rides around town.

I’m 6’4 260.

I’ve always loved the look of the Deluxe and the wide glide, though I’ve never actually ridden either. I’ve ruled out the heritage because I don’t care to have bags and a windshield for this bike. Having said that, my favorite esthetic for any motorcycle ever is probably the bikes from the WW2 era. And the heritage probably resembles those more than any other (aside from maybe the springer softail).

I’m probably interested in a model in the 2010ish time period. Hoping to not need to deal with cam chain tensioner issues.

Anyway, for a fairly large rider who already owns a road king, would you recommend a WG, a deluxe, or something different? Thanks!

How to print a custom map (to be displayed on a wall)?

I recently completed a road trip that included some off-road trails. I'd ultimately like to draw out my route on a handsome map, print it, and frame it on my wall.

I have done a bunch of searching and am striking out on almost each step of this process.

Google maps often doesn't recognize some of the dirt roads I traveled.

All of the map printing sites I found seem to be glitching out on me.

Is there a site somewhere that lets me zoom in on a specific slice of the country and then draw a route on it?

I've had a pre-made map from NatGeo glued to a foam board previously, but I'd like to take a more custom approach with this.

Has anyone done something like this? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

VTX vs Roadliner?

Hello, I’m looking to buy a large, reliable, comfortable cruiser. I’ve got a 2000 road king that I adore (favorite bike ever) but I wouldn’t mind having something a bit more powerful and just a few years newer. My plan would be to have no bags, no fairing, nothing like that. My RK would be my bagger for medium to long road trips.

This new bike would be my around town or barely out of town bike. I’d like to add beach bars and a solo seat.

I ideally would want something with a shaft drive, which leads me to the VTX 1800. But I’ve also heard great things about Yamaha’s roadliner stratoliner.

I like the looks of the roadliner much more than the VTX. I’ve loved that art deco look since they first came out and have always had an eye on them. Then again, I love that the VTX has a shaft drive.

Anyone with experience with these bikes who could steer me toward one or the other? I see a handful of each of them in the $4-9k range. The pricing seems comparable.

My goals are reliability and comfort. I know these are older bikes, but they seem to have great reputations for reliability. Thanks for your help!

Printable road trip map?

Hello, I'm getting ready to take a road trip, and I'd like to mark my exact route and have it sent to a print shop to be made into something attractive enough to display on a wall.

Is there a site that does this well?

I'm aware of printmaps.net but don't have any experience with them.

Thanks for any guidance!

Cost of addressing cam chain tensioners for 2005 Wide Glide?

I'm considering buying a 2005 Dyna Wide Glide with mid-20 thousand miles on it. Looks clean. Garage kept. Tires are five years old. It's fuel injected. I know that the cam chain tensioner issue is a big deal with these bikes.

At this mileage, how pressing of an issue is it? Something I'd need to do Day 1?

And what could I expect to pay, roughly, to take care of the issue before it becomes a problem? I've read some people recommend switching to gears, others recommend the hydraulic option, and others say just replace the cams and ride on for another 20 years. I don't know what kind of costs are associated with any of these options, or which one would be preferable.

I really am pretty clueless about this process, so would appreciate any insight or advice I could get. Thanks to everyone here!

I’ve got a 2000 road king which is my favorite bike of all time. I’ve also got two ADV bikes that have alot of overlap in their usage. I’m considering trading one in.

A dealership near me has a 2020 street bob for sale for $9000. Under 5k miles.

For those with experience on the road king and the street bob, do you think they’re different enough to justify a purchase? Of course it’s all unique to the individual rider, but is there a different Harley that would serve better as a complement to a road king?

I’ve had a sportster 1200, and loved it, but I think I’d like something a bit bigger. Always loved the wide glide, the springer softail, and the crossbones, but I don’t see them available as often as the street bob.

Aside from a small tank, is there anything that should steer me away from the SG?

I’d love a more modern bike, and the M8 intrigues me. Thanks for any input!
