Salt Spring Island by bike

Doable in a fun way? I’ve booked an Airbnb on Salt Spring (still fully refundable so can change my mind!) for a couple nights in a few weeks. Wondering if the island is fun to sightsee on without a car. I’ve read that it can be hilly. I’m a strong cyclist and don’t mind some hills but if it’s all killer I’d consider just going over with a car. But I much prefer biking!

More than anything I’m looking to relax and get outside in a new place for a couple days, rather than feeling like I need to see or do everything/anything in particular.

Considering also doing a day trip to Mayne Island from Salt Spring (again by bike only), so any insight there also appreciated. Thanks!

Update: thank you everyone for your generous insights!! I feel very forewarned and am opting for a car and will scope out the roads on this trip to see if I’d want to bring a bike another time!

Knitting on the Hesquiat Trail (to all knitting backpackers, it’s worth the extra weight and bulk!)

Definitely a top-five knitting location. I knit a little each day on this 4.5-day hike, and this afternoon on the beach was such a highlight. Maybe not the most practical backpacking move, but *so* worth bringing!

Yarn: Cascade Eco+ in “Shire”
Pattern: no pattern, just a simple ribbed hat WIP
Location: Homais Cove
