What exactly does Divinity do as a skill, lore wise?

What it say on the title, I thought that it meant some kind of Authority over whatever their divine aspect rules over, like a marble phantasm, but there's no actual definition that I can find besides just "Yeah they need divinity equal to or stronger than them to harm them." Except its clearly not outright invulnerablity.
