Alr5 sizing help needed

Hi

So I’m 5’7 to 5’8 and about 31in inseem(if I did it correctly). I went in test road the bike finally. The medium at first seemed like my arms were too stretched out so I test rode a small for about 15min. My arms did feel better but when I switched back to the medium the ride of the medium felt better minus my arms. I know there’s isn’t too much info to go off of but do I buy medium and bring the handle bar a little closer to do I buy small?

Oh and I did put a deposit down for a bronze in medium but of course can cancel if needed.

Thanks

Gt8 as first bike?

Hello peeps,

Signed up on a waiting list at my lbs for a gt8. They should be getting it in about 2 weeks.

Do you guys think it’s too much of a bike for a newbie just getting into biking at 38. Haven’t rode a bike in like 20 years.

What I’ll ride: I honestly have no idea right now bc haven’t really biked to know but my main purpose is to get in shape. I’m thinking will start mainly riding in road (hilly area) and progress into gravel.

Concern:

  1. Bike geometry being race oriented. Will it be uncomfortable on long 40mile rides? Back pain?
  2. Carbon as a first bike. Would that be hard to maintain?
  3. Is di2 as a newbie easy to figure out?

X-LAB GT8 vs the field

So been trying to pick my first bike since I was a teen (38 now). Been over analyzing all the options and I had finally narrowed to alr5 vs the revolt advanced 2 (found one for $2500 new).

Then….i watched a YouTube video about x-labs gt8. After the video I called a local shop and they said they should get them in 2 weeks. The bike is a bit more expensive at $3200 but the gears and components are equal to that of a bikes selling for 8-9k. Getting full carbon, di2 and free crank meter for 3200 is insane even with the small knowledge I have.

So my question. What the F do I buy? I mean I will be doing road and hopefully increase gravel rides as time goes on. Will probably do 1-2 rides a week. My main goal and reason i went down this path is to lose a little weight and stay in shape. What is your opinion? Anyone with real experience with the gt8? Is it worth paying that extra 700$ or extra 900$ vs the revolt and checkpoint? I would want it also to be comfortable for 20-30mile rides at first and hopefully longer later.

Van Rysel AF 2 GRX

Anyone own this bike. The 2x12 grx group set got my interest when I was about to purchase a checkpoint alr5. Any real life reviews? Also how’s the bike experience with REI vs Trek. I would think Trek provides better support?

Buying a bike giving me anxiety

I started with wanting to buy a Walmart bike just to ride and get in shape. Now not only am I not getting in shape I have been reading and watching and reading and watching vids for the past 6 months. I learned ALOT about bikes but still bike less. The more I learn actually makes it harder and harder to pick a bike. Been thinking about buying gravel for a long time so looked into trek checkpoint, specialized diverge, Scott addict, giant revolt, canondale topstone, canyon grizl, van ryzl and even x-lab recently. So read and read and read and finalllyyyyy decided on trek checkpoint alr5. So I went into the store to buy the alr5 unfortunately they didn’t have the bronze in stock so I test drove the blue and liked it but as I was riding and explaining to the employee where I live and what driving I’ll start with he recommended the Domane instead. Now you guessed it I’m at step 1 deciding gravel vs road. Has anyone been in this position before? I know. I should just pick a bike and buy it and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it but it’s easier said than done.

Just some additional info on where I will be riding. I think I will start in north Glendale, CA and ride mainly roads with a friend but I want to eventually ride fire lanes and some gravel. Speed isn’t the biggest factor for me and i don’t want climbing to be the easiest either so I actually get a good work out in.

Specialized Diverge Comp Alloy or Trek Checkpoint ALR5

I have pretty much the opportunity to buy the comp alloy at the same price as the alr5 due to nurse discount.

Starting biking in my 40s. I’m assuming I will be doing road in the beginning and hopefully gravel to follow. I have no idea about how much of each right now but I want a bike that can do both pretty well. Will not be using it to go to work but mainly early morning rides and weekend rides for getting some cardio in. I went through a plethora of bikes and had finally settled on the alr5 but now with the discount thinking the comp alloy is a much more superior bike? Or am I wrong to think that? I’m thinking as a new bike the 40/51 will benefit me vs the 40/44 of the trek low gear. Or am i overthinking this as I do with everything?

Test rode a Alr 5 but now thinking to buy the 4

I finally went in to trek yesterday. Test rode the the ALR 5 small and medium. As a 5’8 30”inseem the M I think felt best. Reason I say I think is because I haven’t ridden a bike for 20years. They both felt good but the medium I think felt better. I had no problem with the double tap to shift up as some had mentioned before. So back to the purchase. I went in ready to buy the bronze alr 5 but they didn’t have it in stock until 6/22. So I test drove the blue and looked at the green ALR 4. I was so sure on the AlR 5 that I didn’t even ask to test out the 4. However, when I got home I couldn’t stop thinking about how beautiful the alr 4 in that green was. I haven’t seen the bronze in person yet but now I wanted to ask all our experts here. Do I buy the alr 4 due to its color or do I stick with the 5. Is the 5’s hydraulic brakes, extra gear and weight difference that much better?

To help answer that question. I live in southern Cali, Glendale to be exact. Gonna be my first bike and trying to use it to lose weight and stay in shape. Will probably start riding roads, La river and hopefully eventually gravel. Also as a newbie I don’t want to tinker with the bike too much. The only thing I know EVERYONE recommends is changing the tires which I will once I start riding in gravel. Any advice is appreciated. Even if you think another bike will be better. Just want to keep it under $2500 for the bike itself.

POE Smart Chime options for G6 Entry Pro

Hi

Waited a long time to get a G6 doorbell. Now I finally have it and installed. Is everyone using it with the Poe/wifi unifi chime? Are there other POE chimes that we can pair it with? Trying to avoid a complicated home assistant set up type thing. Just want an easy Poe plug and connect situation if any such thing exists.

Drawers, storage and access doors. So many options.

Hi,

I have a 16’ galley design about to be built. One side will house the appliances and the other side will have seating and a sink only (maybe pizza oven in the future). My question is how in the world do you guys figure out what drawer, storage or access doors to put in. So many options I’m going crazy. Obvious is access door under gas appliance and sink. How about the rest? Like trash is a must. Other than that I have no idea what to pick since I’m working with practically 32’. I would like to use most of the space for storage and don’t want space to go to waste but it’s hard to pick.

Any good websites or pictures you guys have?

Thank you

Finally joined the RR Family

26 LWB Black on black on black on black 7 seater

So far driven it only 2 times but feels 10x more luxurious than out 24 x7.

Any quick orders or hacks people have that they can recommend? One I would want asap is the best way to install iPads behind the front seats.

About a couple months ago there was a camouflaged Range Rover with everyone talking about a facelift coming in 27. Now I saw the SV Ultra mages and can’t see the facelift other than minor changes. Is this really it?

Hi guys.

Decided on buying a alr5 as my first bike as an adult. I just noticed the last release was about a year ago. Is a new one coming out soon? Or is it not an annual thing like an iPhone?
