When can I afford to retire…

36 female. Married with a son in nursery (fees is paid by grandparents). Definitely won’t have more kids.

Private pension: £220k
Stock and share ISA: £75k
GIC: £50k
Premium Bond: £50k
Annual PAYE salary: £95k + £10k bonus
Pension contributions: £40k/year
Mortgage 27 years left: £3.2k/month shared with my husband
My half of living cost including mortgage: £2.5k
National insurance years: 12

Husband’s salary is £80k/year with NHS pension. He virtually has no saving but his salary will increase every year as he progresses. Apart from sharing bills 50/50, we have separate finance. He likely will have a decent size of inheritance but could be really far down the line - not something we count on.

What can I do to improve my situation/ investment? When can I realistically retire….

Vibe coding for project pan

I had project pan going since 2021. I have been rigorously recording product weight every Saturday so I have a lot of data points.

I started using Claude to build an app for my personal use (it is not a promotion). It was super quick - only took less than 30 mins. I’m just wondering if there are other metrics would be interesting to track? What I have are progress percentage, in and outs each year in unit and value. What else ?

Birthday party venues/ideas?

Apart from the usual soft play, what are the birthday venues/ideas that are fun for young kids (age 2-8) with budget of <£30/person?

For example I only recently found out that lush can host birthday parties.

Simple will vs No will. What are the pros and cons?

We are a married couple in our mid 30s with a 2-year old child (one and done).

Our assets are:

  1. We both have death in service from work.

All four parents are still alive. My husband has one sibling and I have none.

We want to leave all of our assets to each other and our little one if one of us die. If that happens tomorrow without a will, what assets would go to whom? What is the benefit of having a will in our case? If we were to write a will, what is the best tax efficient way to allocate the asset?

Update: thanks for all of the answers. Yes we will get a will. Would a simple will from co op be sufficient in our case, or do we get appointment from a solicitor and do a full one?

How likely would Places for People give consent to let?

I’m selling my freehold property. It was never a shared ownership but it was built by Places for People which is a housing association.

There is a covenant in Transfer from my purchase which states the property must only be used as the owners main residence, and they cannot create any tenancy or subletting but my buyer’s intention is to let it out.

How likely would Places for People to give consent to let? If there is a charge, what is the likely cost?

For parents who raise bilingual kids, I’m curious to learn from your experience. * Only interested in answers from parents whose kids already started school*

If your child fails to speak both fluently, what do you wish you have done differently? What do you think is the biggest factor?

If they speak both languages fluently, what is your tip?

Can you share your kids’s age, their language use and tips

Try logged into My NHS Pension for the first time hoping to see my benefit estimate. I can see my pensioned salary records but under “My Benefit”, it just said “no information recorded” everywhere.

What is going on?

P.S. If relevant I had a mixture of locum and standard full time contracts in the last decade and have always subscribed into NHS pension.

Since we spent at least 25% of our time in bed, how much did you spend buying the bed and mattress, and from where?

Edit: every HENRY seems to have excellent sleep. That is great to hear 😇
