Got an “emerging” overall eval from IM attending.

Not even a “meets expectations”. All of my other residents gave me excellent or above expectations. I am so disappointed and I feel like a failure and like I’m dumb. Yes I know it’s not true and there is room to learn, and I will admit he saw me during my first two weeks of IM rotation and I was still figuring things out and was sick a couple of days. I am just so bummed. I hope to match academic IM and I’m worried this will jeopardize it all. I’m sad and don’t know what to do. Any advice/kind words would help.

High-pitched throat sounds

I can’t explain it but it’s like something old people do and my grandpa does it a lot. It literally drives me up a wall. Can anyone relate/elaborate?

What are some fun things I can do if I’m broke at the moment?

I’ve been exhausted after work and have been basically snacking and watching TV, I realize that eating when bored is a bad habit so I’ve stopped. I’m happy to come home and be at peace but I’ve been super BORED lately. Drop your suggestions below!

Today is Father’s Day and my dad passed 6 years ago when I was 17.

My grandpa said he was “disappointed” in my sister and I for not wanting to go to lunch with them. When we said we wanted to spend the day with our dad at his grave, he said “I don’t get that” and our mom just sat there and said nothing, and proceeded to not visit our dad with us.

Protein pasta with cheesy tomato sauce and garlic bread.

How have you de-centered men from your life?

Asking specifically women who have experience mostly dating men. I’ve been doing well but want to have some advice in case I slip up.

Edit: currently sitting in a hotel room by myself while visiting family for the weekend and watching Golden Girls. It’s amazing!

Edit 2: this post is not meant to hate on men or paint them in a negative light.

I’m an M3 dating a current incoming M1 at another school.

I was wondering what everyone’s take on the situation is. Yes I understand that everyone is different, but I’m genuinely anxious about the situation. We’ve started dating a month ago and we go to different schools 1.5 hours apart and his home is in another state but our schools are in the same state. I’m nervous that this relationship won’t work due to our hectic schedules. I really like him and he likes me a lot too and both of us want it to work. I’ve been in a couple of bad relationships in the past and have likely acquired anxiety from them. I start rotations this week and he starts in July. For context he is also in HPSP so that will cause some likely needed adjustments later on down the line too.

I’m posting here and not in the relationship subs because I’m wondering if any other med students have been in a similar situation and were able to make it work, or if there is any advice someone can give.

Thanks.

What are your plans for the week?

I’m going to a couple of doctor’s check-ups then I’m going to see a movie by myself tomorrow, then on Wednesday having dinner with a friend!

I’ll probably also clean in between.

Has anyone else decided to ditch their coupled friends?

I see many posts on here describing how us singletons often feel pressured or even out of place when speaking with friends who are in romantic relationships. I personally have felt this and have decided to distance myself from my friends (mainly girls) who aren’t single like me. I feel that my life is easier and I can relate to my single friends more than the coupled ones. The convos don’t magically drift to a persons SO and we can talk about actual life things and the single gals are much more individualized.

I was wondering who else has decided to do this for their own wellbeing?

I just saw the movie “Obsession” with my friend.

I know it’s meant to be exaggerated obsessiveness but I’ve genuinely seen realistic parallels with the acting and actual couples I’ve encountered. Another reason I enjoy being alone!

Got the P yesterday! Here’s what I did.

All I did was UWorld and every B&B video! For four straight months. Aside from the NBMEs and the free 120, I only used those sources. I tried reading Mehlman docs but they were just too long and super tedious. Finally I just said “screw it” and was tired of studying at this point, and sat for the exam. The weeks following, I was sure I had failed. Because who feels good after an 8 hour exam? Let me know if you have questions.

I also forgot to mention that I got mono during my last month or so of studying. Fun times haha. I literally did not let myself stay sick, I forced myself to do UWorld and watch the B&B videos no matter what.

The only man I need in my life is Mr. Ballen. His consistency is what I fell for 😚

He’s my imaginary bf. Currently eating Taco Bell and tootsie rolls after a long week. Happy alone :)

For those who tested today, what went well on this exam and which did you struggle with?

For those who tested today (5/8) what did you think of the test? What did you struggle with?
