I need help de-escalating

My kid nearly threw a good size rock at my head today. I know we are both out of whack and not in a good place.

She has been potty training and there have been a lot of ups and downs. Right now we’re trying to sit on the potty every 2-3 hours and after each meal. It is a lot.

My concern is that this is for her health. If she’s not sitting, she’s holding it in. She has held pee for 24 hours. She will typically got 2 times a day but the doctors want her going more often. She was withholding poop for years and we have finally gotten past that with various supplements and medicines.

So I’m like… mentally in a panic about her health and trying to impart that knowledge on her that this is for her health.

When it has been a few hours since she has peed or attempted to pee, I start to worry. And I literally can’t make her pee. And I can’t make her sit unless I carry her and force her to do it or threaten consequences.

Her behavior has really escalated, the equalizing and aggression is getting really bad and it’s making me feel like a failure and like I’m going to ruin our relationship.

But I also feel like a failure that I can’t make my kid pee like she’s supposed to.

I don’t know how to switch this worry off.

I also think if I give in now she will think all her aggression and equalizing worked. I feel like I backed myself into a corner.

How do I get out of this loop?

How to get my daughters clothes smelling like “home” again after coming back from Dad’s house

Dad uses some kind of very strong scented Tide pods or uses too much detergent. When my daughter comes home, her clothes have that strong scent and it doesn’t go away after a wash.

I’m glad she is coming home in clean clothes. But the scent is overpowering.

I’ve read some suggestions on this sub for how to get rid of the Tide scent, but what is gentle enough for regular use? I will have one outfit every week that needs to get the smell removing treatment.

Different approaches between households

Hi! I’m working on potty training and am co-parenting.

Without getting into too much detail, my child is very stubborn. She does not respond well to being told to sit on the potty. She has a tendency to withhold both pee and poo and has received treatment for it. She was on a potty schedule for 2 years at her daycare but only went successfully twice and a would have a meltdown if asked to sit at home.

We have just started going bottomless with a floor potty. I haven’t been prompting, just putting the potty near her and telling her where it is if she needs it. On day 3, she started to self initiate and got both pee and poo in the potty. That continued on day 4 and 5.

Day 5 my child went to their other parents house to spend 2 days/nights.

It is now day 6. They’ve been awake for 5 hours and haven’t peed yet. My child called me and my coparent said to me that they are trapped in the house and can’t go out because she hasn’t peed yet. That was said in front of my child. He went on to say that he doesn’t want to stay inside all day and what is he supposed to do?

We have had many conversations about potty training over the years. He’s been told not to put pressure. He will not stop.

So given that… what can I do? How can I continue to have success? My child is almost 5 and will be starting kindergarten this fall. It’s really imperative that we make progress and don’t go backwards to withholding and diapers. I just want her to feel safe and happy to tackle this new challenge.
