Surfer's ear probably not a concern?

A lot of people seemed to agree with this post, but I thought about it for a moment and am skeptical. I think it would probably only make a difference if the water is entering deeper into the ear during surfing, versus being blocked by an air pocket when just submerging your head in calm water. When I've gone swimming or surfing, usually there's some amount of water entering much deeper into the ear due to turbulence of the fluid and I have to shake my head to get some of it out.

micro cold plunge at home for smaller people or water/power conservation?

I'm 5'6 and 120lbs. Most rigs will have far more space than I need. I'm actually trying to get by with the least amount of water and space necessary to chill my body for 1-2 minutes. It would be great if it could just surround my body with 2 inches of water all around, while lying flat. It would be fine if the water got a bit warmer towards the end. I would just go colder at the start. If it was minimal enough water, I could do stow it away in-between uses and just refill with tap water + ice.

A couple questions about HHR. 1. does a parent need a current HHR before I can apply? 2. Any implications on relatives for joining their HH?

My dad and I are trying to go from NWOHR to NWHR. He lost his citizenship before and I was born in the USA. My dad plans to go back to Taiwan and try to regain his citizenship (complex reason) (ie. the typical instructions given in this sub don't apply to his case). I'm trying to get a settlement certificate copy in USA before going to Taiwan to complete the process.

Under the TECO LA's instructions, it appears they ask for the HHR for a parent that's within 6 months. Since my dad doesn't have HHR yet, do I need to first wait for him to go to Taiwan and get his? We were hoping to just travel together later this year and get both of us settled during the same trip (pun intended). I was born in the USA when he still had his Taiwanese citizenship.

Also, we are planning on joining a relative's household (exact one TBD). Would this have any implications or liabilities for them? (taxes, legal repercussions, etc.) Want to make sure we know what we'd be putting them through before asking.

Visiting Taiwan every 2 years required for maintaining HHR?

I'm in the process of getting nationality as an adult child of Taiwanese born abroad, and currently a NWOHR. I just wanted to check if I would need to visit Taiwan every 2 years indefinitely to maintain HHR, and if I don't, what's the process for regaining HHR? (hopefully far less work than getting HHR in the first place?)

Anyone else experience tolerance issues?

Tolerance buildup has been an issue for me. I’ve had to go up dose twice only to not feel it or notice anything anymore, after a couple weeks. At 10mg twice a day and don’t think it works anymore. Used to be on 5mg once a day, but had the same problem.

I typically notice busprione’s effects immediately after taking it. I noticed others saying it takes weeks to notice effects. That has definitely not been the case for me.

Taking for anxiety

Anyone else experience this?

I go for 4 walks a day on average for 15 minutes each. Should I still consider the Walkolution?

I somehow manage to go out about 4 times a day for a walk. It’s one of the few good habits I managed to keep. It helps me destress, rest my eyes and gather my thoughts.

I know I like walking but I don’t know if I like walking while working yet. I don’t mind a standing desk and switch from sitting to standing often.

I don’t know if I get the Walkolution, that I might go out less for walks. That might be a drawback if that were the case, as I would miss out on the vitamin D and fresh air and resting my eyes.

I do think I’d get a lot more steps in if I keep using it regularly, but my goal wouldn’t be that, nor to lose weight. It would be to destress and feel good more frequently and consistently throughout the day. 4 walks a day already sounds good, but what if I could do 12 5 minute walks a day?

Sometimes I feel like I’m a bit too busy or in the zone, and can still work for 3 hours or so straight without moving at all. I eventually go on my walks usually, but I am already fried mentally and physically. That’s the problem I want to address.

Am I a good candidate for this product because I’d be more likely to use it because I already like walking? Or would it be less marginal benefit because I already manage to get out there without an extra tool already?

How to durably enforce shorter answers (or any other preference)?

It forgets that I want responses in less than 30 words. I wish there was an option or client that allows me to select verbosity per conversation, much like how you can select the model at any point during the conversation, and have it remember for every response thereafter.

Currently, I need to do acronyms like SR (short response - and define it in custom instructions) at the end of my replies but it forgets soon again.

EDIT 1: for ChatGPT client, specifically
EDIT 2: creating my own custom GPT seemed to work better, in that the instructions for the GPT seemed more durably followed, than the instructions for the entire client (Custom Instructions under Personalization), such as during a long conversation. You still need to use strict wording, however. It’s not an apples to apples comparison though because I have other instructions in the Custom Instructions which might be throwing it off.

I use Reddit at the Apple Store, etc.

And block Reddit on my devices, but use it at stores a couple times a week for like 15 minutes a time. I'm at the Apple Store right now lol. Does anyone else do this?

I find reddit really useful by sometimes surfing certain subreddits, searching queries, or asking questions. edit: but it’s distracting and also a porn loophole.

But if I have it on my device, it's too easy to surf. I have it blocked on my device and at the network level with a router setting that I don't have access to.

Big knuckles situation, not sure what to do

I want to wear the ring on the ring finger, because I feel like it otherwise gets hit too much on the index and even the middle. Unfortunately, with the ring finger, my knuckles are a bit bigger than the fleshy area, and the ring is a bit wobbly and rotates a few times a day.

I currently am trying the 4, but not sure if I want to keep it, due to the above and the clunkiness. I was thinking about the 5, as they say the same size fit slightly different, but I tried it in store and it seems to fit identically. Maybe I should try the sizing kit and wear it for a few hours?

Kind of bummed, not sure what to do. Maybe this will all fix it self once I gain a bit more weight. But I've been saying that for years now, lol. My fingers were also a bit bigger when I was doing indoor bouldering.

First time experience, with troche

Took a 100mg troche yesterday. Definitely was an interesting experience during the hour-long trip, seeing all kinds of fun visual stimuli (e.g. infinite tunnels with intricate moving patterns). Afterwards, felt a bit nauseated for a few hours, and just woozy. The day after, I think I just felt a bit sad and never any positive afterglow.

I took odansetron beforehand. Also did some integration work like journaling, counting blessings, meditating before. After the session, I was a bit too woozy to want to do any integration work. The day after, I went out to a nice park the day after, and tried doing some journaling and meditation.

This was a troche with Better U.

I'll probably give it another shot, but curious if others have had negative experiences the first time but had it improve after.

Counter app (+1, etc.)

Is there a simple counter app that can stay in the foreground (is that even possible?) and let me tap the screen or click the crown to +1?

I’m guessing probably not, because Apple Watch is pretty locked down with things like this.

Meditation app that has background music or sound options?

Does anyone know of a meditation app that plays some background music or sounds? I sometimes like to be more detached from my phone. While there are meditation timers for the watch, I haven’t found one that also has sounds, as do the ones on the phone. I’d like to just press “start session” and then have some peaceful meditation music play. I’m ok with wearing headphones, but if it could play even without them, that’d be sweet.

Need heartburn relief. Nothing works. Is this due to the hiatal hernia?

(Regarding relief, not prevention)

I’ve tried PPI’s, antacids, gaviscon, and most things mentioned on r/gerd or available to purchase at a pharmacy. But most things don’t really work well when I already have that burning sensation (at the xyphoid process). My heartburn usually lasts between 2 to 6 hours.

The only things that consistently seem to help are going for a walk or running (even better). But it can come back after I stop, and this can be tiring. If I’m running, after 10 minutes or so, it’ll often be gone, but I’ll need to keep walking and even then it might come back after 30 minutes, and then I start running again.

I’m wondering if those with hiatal hernia need more support for heartburn relief. Has anyone else found something that works consistently for some degree of relief? I’m guessing there is nothing perfect, otherwise surgery would not be a thing.

Has it given you insights that improved your health?

I only wear it at night, but I think the main insight was that HRV is higher and HR is lower when I eat an earlier and smaller dinner. (I mean I guess this is predictable, but it helped me encourage better behavior). I also noticed that there miiight have been less spo2 drops with mouth taping, so I do that now.

It was worth it for that info, but that was 3 years ago, and while I wear it daily still, I don’t think I get much more out of it and check it less regularly.

When I have bad sleep I usually know it already, or got woken up. Or I’ll just take a nap if I’m tired. I prefer not having to look at my phone first thing in the morning. My temp and HR go up when I’m sick, etc. Eh

Have the technology improvements in our lifetime been a net positive in your life thus far?

Or would things have been better *for you* without all the improvements to technologies since say the 1990s?

My update. Needed to up the dosage.

First week, I think 5mg once a day was actually amazing. A few weeks later, I could not notice much of a difference, and adding a second dose later in the day was helpful, but still felt like the first dosage wasn’t as noticeable. I then just took 2 5mg at once, and feel it’s noticeable again.

I heard for some people that the desired effect of Buspar is noticeable immediately and for some people the effect comes over time, and builds up. I’m more in the former.
