Why don’t UAP/UFO whistleblowers use a dead man’s switch?

Something I’ve always wondered:

If a UAP/UFO whistleblower genuinely has evidence of a secret program, non-human technology, or information that could put them at risk, why don’t they set up a dead man’s switch?

By that, I mean a system that automatically releases documents, videos, or testimony if they disappear or fail to check in for a certain period of time.

The technology already exists, and it seems like it would make silencing someone much harder since any attempt to do so would trigger the release of the information.

Is there a reason this isn’t more common? Are there known examples of whistleblowers using such systems, or are dead man’s switches less practical than they sound?

In 2026, with encrypted cloud storage and automated release tools readily available, it seems strange that we hear about secret evidence but almost never hear about dead man’s switch arrangements.

Curious to hear your thoughts.

Fine Structure by qntm, is it worth it?

Hi everyone,

I’m really into sci-fi, but I’m still fairly new to reading the genre. So far I’ve read:

- The Three-Body Problem trilogy (absolutely loved it)
- Project Hail Mary
- The first book of The Expanse

I wanted to try something different, so I picked up Fine Structure by qntm. However, I’m really struggling to understand what’s going on, and I’m finding it quite difficult to get into.

I’m about 25% of the way through the book, and while some of the ideas seem interesting, I still feel pretty lost

For those who have read it: is it worth pushing through, or is it one of those books where if it hasn’t clicked by now, it probably won’t?

Thanks!

Rewatching Taken after ~20 years… hits very differently now

Hey everyone,

I’m rewatching Taken (Spielberg mini-series from 2002) for the first time in almost 20 years, and honestly, I’m enjoying it way more than I expected.

The first time I saw it, I wasn’t really into UFOs or any of that (I was a teenager). But over the past year I’ve gone deep down the rabbit hole, and now it’s wild how much of the lore shows up in the series. Stuff like the Lockheed references or mentions of the Hills just hits completely differently when you actually recognize it.

It almost feels like I’m watching a different show now with that context.

Anyway, just wanted to share some appreciation, curious if anyone else has had the same experience revisiting it after getting into the topic?

do you think this will prepare us for the movie disclosure day? 😮
