1954 Colt Detective Special with Cobra Barrel

Here is my 1954 Cobra Special. It was police issued and in the 60’s was bobbed and changed to DAO to follow new regulations for that specific police department. It was refinished and rebarreled in the 90’s with a Cobra barrel. Not as fancy as my Python but it’s still my favorite revolver

CZC A01-C

I wanted to share a picture of my newly acquired CZC A01-C. Out of the box the fit is very tight and almost reminds me of my 90’s Les Baer. The slide is nicely finished, the grip is aggressive, serrations are sharp, almost uncomfortably so. There is no play in the slide whatsoever. The flush cut on the front gives it a nice custom look. It racks really smooth but I wouldn’t say quite as much like ball bearings as one of my Wilson Combats but definitely has a full custom gun feel (which I guess in a sense it sort of is?). My main hesitation getting one when they came out is I wanted to see some reviews and figured the first year they might make some minor improvements based on feedback. Also I did consider one a few years back but it was the full dust cover model that was full size but the balance just felt ‘off’ and nose heavy, even though I’m sure that translates favorably for some when shooting. I feel like the balance is much better with the compact model. I did learn that you need to be pretty careful to have the guide rod seated perfectly on reassembly. For some reason when racking the slide It was wanting to slide lock and occasionally actually would without a magazine. Disassembly and reassembly seems to have solved that and the only thing I noticed was the guide rod slightly off where it seemed to be intended to go. I have seen and heard less about the A01 recently with some of the shadow 2 and more recently the TS3 hype so I hope they keep up long term support for these, since I’ve gotten burned on that on some expensive guns in the past (Wilson KZ-45 and stealth models). Prior to getting this I thought the 99041 (pictured next to it) was a heavy gal but this A01 is an absolute unit! From what I heard, sort of like some old school tight 1911s there is a bit of a break in period and after a quick 50 rounds I’d say that’s probably true so I don’t want to speak on that till I get enough rounds through. First impressions even with a few minor hiccups is very positive!

Family photo, I still favor the 75 line over shadow

Current collection with a new exception of a czc ao1 compact coming. I’ve been shooting cz 75’s for local competition and fun for a long time and have acquired what I consider an okay collection. The 99041 with the brass grips is the handgun in this picture I’ve shot the best (unfortunately) I was really surprised that my sp01 custom with the short reach upgrade wasn’t the best but consistently that has been the best of the ones pictured. The cerakoted all steel frame CZ was my original carry from 2014 that I got redone due to the wear getting almost ugly but I do have a preference for steel frames. I’d rather buy a better belt and shoot better than save a few ounces. Just my personal preference. The CZ pro tek has to be my favorite but I am a bit disappointed that it’s not one of my best shooters but they did upgrade their short reach kit since I got this one so modern ones might be even better. The melt treatment is nice but in an economical sense really not worth the price. I am at a point where I will be exponentially more for minor upgrades and I can see after buying it the time that was likely put into it, but I know most people may not have the appreciation for it. Also for the debate of CZ custom vs Cajun, if your buying a built gun either is almost indiscernible from the other. If you’re doing the install yourself Cajun has the edge.

New LOK and Vytal Grips

Got some LOK Brass palmswell gridlock grips for the 99041 since I didn’t want it to get too light, and some Vytal Grips to the Compact. I will say I like thePalmswell more than the thin grips but I do enjoy the texture more on the Vytal grips. I would like to try the Copper Vytal grips but I do think they may not look that great if you don’t do the basepads

I am actually disappointed how much I love the P365 Luxe

I had a Keltec P3at I have been carrying around for the past 11 or so years and finally decided between the nonexistent sights and the staple gun trigger that carrying it might be leaning on the edge of increased danger instead of solid protection. I decided I needed to trade it in and get a more viable carry gun and it seems like every forum brings up the P365. I carry a CZ all steel compact in the winter so I was in the market for something that had a bit more concealability and a bit easier to carry since sometimes I’ll look at my CZ and just think ‘I don’t feel like lugging this around today’ which is when I’d just toss the P3at in my pocket, gym shorts, whatever and forget about it. My other recent carry gun has been an HK Vp9CC which I have to say is a great gun and a great size but shooting 200 rounds in a range session the web of my hand feels bruised the next day. This P365 luxe from my last two range sessions feels effortless to shoot, and I could shoot however many rounds I’d like without discomfort. With the comp, alloy frame, and wider grip the recoil is about nonexistent and the time back on target of doing 2 or 3 round strings has been great and more accurate than the larger CZ or the HK. The only compromise is .380 which still has its own debate, but for a gun that I was under the assumption was somewhat marketed as a larger gun more tailored to women (probably my own take at first) this is slowly becoming my favorite gun to shoot and carry. Only issue is a slight annoyance getting a good holster since it says it’s fully compatible with the x macro holsters but the one I’ve gotten has been looser than my other ones so far. Hoping I can find one that fits a bit more secure in the near future. For anyone on the fence on this handgun I will have to say I highly recommend it!

New to me

After having to sell off most of my old collection I found a used Wilson Combat for under 1500 which appears to have a pretty low round count. Feels good to have one back and I do truly appreciate the differences these have vs more traditional 1911s like the slide stop and their finish which may not be the most impressive looking but functionally has been one of the best finishes I’ve had on a gun. This one’s a Bull Barrel and what I think they call the shock buffer on it? Never had a 1911 that wasn’t the normal bushing but feels good to have one back :) The bobtail is one of my favorite 1911 features that seems rare to find these days. Pretty sure by the bag and grip emblem it’s a bit older than my previous 1911 but I’ve heard some owners debate that some of the older offerings were better than modern ones but likely just the folk that say things were better back in my day lol

CZ Pro Tek 1

Recently got a good deal on a nearly unfired CZ Pro Tek 1 Coming from a nearly stock CZ Compact.

I’ve been shooting CZ’s for a long time but have mostly had them for shooting steel and going to the range with a CZ 75 SP01 Competition Blue and CZ 75 SP01 Custom and decided to get into the compacts for carry since they shoot so well. I was looking for a CZ PCR Custom but ran into a CZ Pro Tek 1 for not too much more so decided to spring for that instead. I wasn’t sure what to expect since when I read the differences I didn’t think there was a lot you were benefiting over a stock gun with a trigger job. The slide on the Pro Tek however feels line it runs on ball bearings and the trigger feels improved from my CZ Custom Sp01. First magazine through it wasn’t the best since the trigger was even lighter than I Expected but by the 3rd magazine my group was a couple inches tighter at 12 yards than with the stock gun. Overall very happy with the Pro Tek and there is more to appreciate on the fit, finish, and attention to detail than one may think from description! I will say that I’m not sure if the de burring and tri top slide are much more than cosmetic. At the MSRP, I do think it has some tough competition from the Wilson Combat Variants like the SFX9 and EDC9.

Personally, for carry I want to say I prefer the Pro Tek so far over those other choices, but that is primarily related to the fact I have a fairly high rount cout of my Sp01’s. Before I grabbed this it was surprising how little information was out there on these, and close to nothing of value on YouTube as well. I would be curious how many of these they’ve put out and I would assume the number is likely fairly low because of its likely niche market.

CZ Combat Hammer

Hello!

I’ve been looking at getting a used CZ P01 and I’ve seen some that have the more common round loop hammer but I’ve seen a few with the combat hammer posted for sale. Did these ever come from the factory with the Combat Hammer? I’m just wondering if this might be a sign that someone upgraded the trigger / action on it, and these might be the better ones to go for. Is there a reason why someone would only change the hammer out and leave the rest of the action stock?

For reference my CZ Custom has that hammer and my stock 75 BD has the plain loop.

Considering Swampfox Sentinel 2 with Ironsides for Vp9cc

Hello!

I am considering the Swampfox Sentinel 2 green dot with Ironsides for a red dot. Anyone have any opinions or experience with that dot? I had an older dot they made and it stood up to some hard use for a good number of rounds before it had any issues but the customer service was top notch. I heard that the newer models were much improved so I’m considering giving them a shot again. Any insight would be helpful

New Vp9cc Holster from 4Bros

Got my new holster in from 4Bros. Took less than a week from the time I Ordered to get it sent. Quality is good, fitment is good, has all the basic options you’d want on their site. Made sure to get an optics cut even though I haven’t decided on an optic yet, but surely it’s fine. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a Vp9cc holster and a simple straight forward purchase to get it. Figured I’d share since the options seemed a bit limited when I looked or had annoying websites but granted I didn’t spend a ton of time.

They might be my go to when I want a simple kydex holster, but will still use GIHolsters (formerly Garrett Holsters) for their leather lined kydex for my guns that are blued or I’m more concerned about the finish on.

Wilson Combat Spec Ops 9

I have an opportunity to trade for a Wilson Combat Spec Ops 9 for quite cheap but I am concerned with it being discontinued that I might not be able to get much support and upon a quick search it looked like finding magazines could be a very difficult task as well. Anyone own one or have any insight on the Spec Ops?

AIWB Options for Vp9cc?

Looking for a good AIWb holster. I went to order one through slim fit holsters and the reviews weren’t great. Anyone know of some companies that already have holsters made for the Vp9cc?

HK VP9CC vs P365 AXG Legion vs Walther PDP F Series Pro

Looking for a new carry gun. I currently carry a CZ compact (all steel) and now I’m looking for something different (lighter), at least for summer. Curious if anyone has input on these two on what I should consider or what might be advantage/disadvantage of each. Also my third consideration is the Walther PDP F series Pro 3.5”. With the HK I would plan to carry with the extended mag so I can get my whole hand onto it for shootability. I currently have a keltec p3at for lighter carry but it has a trigger like a staple gun and nearly non usable sights.

I tried the smith and Wesson bodyguard. 380 and my group at 10 yards was about 7 inches and I’m hoping for something a bit more manageable, the grip on the .380 was too small to get a good quick draw with the small grip on it which is why I’m looking for something a bit bigger / capable.

CZ Competition good but not great

Got the chance to get a CZ competition for under regular Sp01 msrp. Trigger felt good till I tried it side by side by my full CZ custom. Ended up upgrading some parts to get it nearly on par with my custom. You can definitely feel the graininess in the stock triggers, the CZ competition takes about 80 percent of it out but there is still some tuning required to get it on par with the CZ custom. I may have to send my 75 BD to Cajun to see how their trigger work differs but I can’t see how you could improve on the CZ customs work they do

CZ PCR vs CZ PCR Custom vs CZ Pro Tek 1

I am currently looking at upgrading my carry gun and looking for some opinions. I have an older all steel CZ Compact I have as an EDC and want to upgrade currently.

I have been shooting CZ’s religiously for years now and currently my CZ is completely stock, has stock sights that don’t really glow, and by the time I send it in to get the trigger work and upgraded sights I figure my best bet would be to get a new PCR and get the added benefit of saving a few ounces from the aluminum frame.

I’m wondering what others opinions / experiences are with the PCR, CZ custom PCR and the Pro Tek 1 is, with them all being in very different price brackets. Also I don’t have access to handle the custom or pro Tek as my local stores just have the stock version

I have a Cz SP01 custom with the trigger upgrades that comes on it and it is smoother if I test it side by side with my 75B but my 75B trigger seems like it’s improved just from having a high round count through it. I like the idea of the melt work they do on the Pro Tek since I’m likely to carry it daily but with my current holster with a sweat shield I don’t know if it would make much of a difference, maybe a smoother draw?im also not sure if I am missing any other advantages the Pro Tek might offer that I’m overlooking that would make it more favorable in the long run.
