[Xbox One][2010s] A puzzle game where you play as blue and/or red robot squares, and there’s also explosions involved somebow

(CUBES* not squares) I don’t know how I remember this game so vividly without knowing the name. It’s a puzzle game, it’s in 3D. There’s lasers and explosions involved. One of the game’s trailers says “EXPLOSIONS (because explosions are cool)” or something along those lines.

Double murder in chapter 4?

Could a double murder work in the fourth chapter instead of the third? I feel like a double murder makes significantly more sense for my fourth chapter’s motive and killer than the third chapter.

My fourth killer’s primary motivation is to impress the mastermind after she discovers who they are, which she attempts through a ridiculously complex murder that ironically incriminates her worse than if she just kept it simple.

While I realize chapter three is where the double murder is normally placed to amp up tension, the third chapter shows a character killing for a promised reward. I’m trying my hardest to come up with any reason a double murder would happen in this chapter but I can’t.

Is there any reason not to do a double murder in chapter three? Would doing a single murder in chapter three ruin the tension?

Reward-based motives

One of the hardest parts of writing this Fangan so far is writing a rewarding motive. I want to show how the promise of a reward is a method of controlling others. There's only two examples I can think of, neither of which particularly interest me:

  1. The mascot promises the blackened will receive a large sum of money in addition to graduation. A fairly obvious one, especially considering it was a motive in canon.
  2. The blackened can choose one other person to graduate alongside them. I see this one suggested all the time but I rarely see it explored.

I'd appreciate any other suggestions or ideas! Writing this is hard but rewarding!

How do you express referent power in a villain everyone hates?

I’m writing a Fanganronpa, and I’ve pretty much decided I want its central themes to focus on power, control, and resistance. In my research on the psychology of power I discovered French and Raven’s six bases of power, which I want to utilize in some significant way.

Referent power is by far the most difficult to identify within the setting. Referent power "is defined as the ability of a leader [to] influence a follower because of the follower’s admiration, respect, or identification with the leader" (Expert Program Management). The problem here is that the villain in this scenario primarily utilizes coercion as a means of controlling others, and as such is not very respected or admired.

So my ultimate struggle is how the mastermind could use referent power to push someone over the edge and make them commit murder. I’ve tried looking for other resources about French & Raven's study but they all seem to be about power in the workplace. I’m stubborn and stuck.

Danganronpa & the six types of power

My Fangan largely revolves around power, and in my research on power itself I discovered the six types of power. I'm trying to figure out how each one applies.

Coercive: Obtained through the ability to deliver consequences. This includes any sort of threatening motive (e.g. "we'll spill this secret of yours if no one dies in 24 hours") and the mastermind's ability to kill anyone who breaks the rules.

Reward: Obtained through the ability to deliver rewards, the opposite of coercive. The obvious reward is the promise of escape for anyone who kills and gets away with it, but there's also the more reward-oriented motives.

Legitimate: Obtained through a person's position of authority. Legitimate power, to my understanding, is demonstrated through the special permissions a person of authority is given as a result of their position. So, for the mastermind, this would mean the control they have over the technology of the site.

Referent: Expressed through the positive influence a person has over others through their personality. I'm stuck as to how this would be expressed in a Danganronpa setting.

Expert: The power someone has when they are perceived by others as an expert. The Ultimates obviously have this power given their expertise in their fields. The mastermind, on the other hand, has this power through their expression of the next form of power:

Informational: The power someone has through the information they hold over others. This is different from expert power because it relates specifically to the information and is essentially lost when the information becomes public knowledge. The mastermind holds informational power through their knowledge of every single murder, the knowledge of everything about the killing game and the outside world, and the knowledge they have over the participants.

As I've stated, I'm currently at a loss as to how the mastermind could express referent power. I'm also wondering how each form of power (aside from coercive & reward) could be used in motives. In an ideal world, I'd like for each chapter to represent a single form of power, with the mastermind's legitimate power being challenged in Chapter 6. I think the motives in particular are where I'm stuck with the writing. What do you think?

Please stop using Google

This post is not sponsored, I am just so tired of seeing people complain about how Google is getting worse but proceeding to do nothing about it. Startpage has absolutely no generative AI integration whatsoever and is pure bliss compared to Google. I switched a long time ago and haven’t looked back.

You should also consider switching your browser from Google Chrome to Vivaldi, Waterfox, or LibreWolf. Those three browsers have no AI integration, and Startpage is the default search engine for the former two.

I recently started taking my meds again and I don’t understand what’s wrong with me.

I just graduated high school and because I’m an idiot I stopped taking my medication for about a month. I started taking it again at the start of last week. The differences between while I was off the medication and now that I’m back on the medication make absolutely no sense and I don’t understand what’s wrong with me.

There IS one symptom I’m used to, and it’s the severe appetite suppression that has already caused me to lose weight. As for everything else:

  • Despite music exploration being one of my greatest hobbies, I have not listened to a single new album since starting the meds again. Not one. Instead I have just been constantly looping the most dopamine-hitting parts of the songs I already know and love while pacing around my room and maladaptive daydreaming.
  • Speaking of that, the maladaptive daydreaming has gone way too far. not only do sessions often go for hours on end, but external stimuli such as my parents calling me down and talking to me are significantly less effective at breaking me out of them. Sometimes I struggle to talk to them because it’s still kind of on my mind.
  • I’ve also become quite irritable lately. If I hear my parents call me downstairs to do something, for example, I will briefly flash with rage- this can look like me rolling my eyes and slamming my computer screen, quietly shouting “what?!”, and there was one time I threw my phone to my bed.
  • In a similar vein to the lack of new music, I have suddenly stopped playing video games entirely. Those are despite the fact, however, that I’ve been feeling more and more bored lately, yet when I think about playing a game or listening to some music I just can’t.

The first few days I also had a bizarrely high heart rate, but that seems to have either passed or become less noticeable.

Are all of these just symptoms of appetite suppression, or are they plausible side effects of Vyvanse? Will they get better as time passes, or is there anything else I can do to mitigate them? I‘m crashing out, I haven’t done anything worth a damn in days.

(update-ish) I recently started taking my meds again and I don’t understand what’s wrong with me.

I posted some time ago about how I was worried my ADHD meds were causing overstimulation. It’s been some time now and the symptoms have changed, but regardless my life is currently in shambles.

For context, I just graduated high school and because I’m an idiot I stopped taking my medication for about a month. I started taking it again at the start of last week. The differences between while I was off the medication and now that I’m back on the medication make absolutely no sense and I don’t understand what’s wrong with me.

  • Speaking of that, the maladaptive daydreaming has gone way too far. not only do sessions often go for hours on end, but external stimuli such as my parents calling me down and talking to me are significantly less effective at breaking me out of them. This is a much clearer picture of what I’m experiencing than the last time I posted. I’m also no longer experiencing a significant heart rate.

Are all of these just symptoms of appetite suppression, or are they plausible side effects of Vyvanse? Is there anything I can do to prevent wasting every single second I have remaining before college starts? I feel so upset that I haven’t done anything worth a damn in so long. There may be more symptoms, but I am struggling to think of the others.

Can ADHD medication cause overstimulation? If so, is there anything I can do?

I cannot believe it took me this long to suspect it, but I’m starting to worry my ADHD medication is causing overstimulation. I just started taking it again after a month of forgetting to take it (summer vacation moment) and oh my god it’s been miserable.

I’ve had difficulty recognizing overstimulation, but the symptoms I face when I take the pill include:

  • Significantly increased heart rate
  • Feeling like the smallest things (such as folding laundry and taking the dogs out) cost a lot of mental energy
  • Going from 0 to 100 and angry in a split second whenever my parents call my name to ask me to do something
  • Endlessly pacing around my room, replaying the same dopamine-hitting parts of the same songs over and over
  • Significantly reduced social skills, including the reduced ability to focus on conversations and deliver fun and witty or thoughtful responses like I normally do
  • Inability to engage in activities I normally would such as turning on a game console and playing a game or listening to an album; I also rarely ever say yes whenever I’m asked if I want to watch something with my parents because it feels taxing

I have faced this for years and it has been so unpleasant and miserable that there were some days I deliberately avoided the pill and faced the consequences. Now that I have the most direct comparison, I feel like my life is worse with the medication. Is there anything I can do about this, or is this just a sacrifice that comes with taking the medication? More importantly, am I correct that this is overstimulation?
