Whittle: Low poly 3D modelling app for the 3DS

Hi everyone!

This is "whittle", a low-poly 3D modelling app specifically made for the 3DS. I've been working on it for a little while now and I've just created a Github repo for it.

The modelling workflow is very similar to picoCAD, I've basically taken it's "simple vertex editing on orthogonal views" idea and optimized it for the 3DS. The top screen is for the 3D model preview exclusively, while the bottom screen houses all editing functionality & view options. It's very intuitive to use with the stylus. It currently features primitives, basic object manipulations, painting object faces solid colors and texturing, along with a simple 2D texture editor and UV mapping tool. ıt's still experimental, the UI/UX isn't fully there yet and there are a few bugs but it is usable. It can save and load a single model currently, there's no export options.

Github: https://github.com/qewer33/whittle

I want to continue developing this with feedback from actual 3D artists (or people willing to learn and use this thing) so if you are one and like this little project, feel free to contact me on Discord (@qewer33) and give feedback.

I made a script to launch GUI apps from the ES UI easier!

Hey everyone! Recently got an R36S, loving it so far, both for gaming and for Linux tinkering.

I've noticed there wasn't any good scripts for launching X11 GUI apps directly from the EmlationStation UI so I decided to write one myself. Here's the repo if you want to try it out:

RXAL (R36S X11 App Launcher): https://github.com/qewer33/RXAL

Don't run the main script but run the specific wrapper scripts inside the repo (they will show in the Ports system when you copy the entire repo to the EASYROMS/ports folder). It's batteries included, you won't need any configuration, just make sure to have internet connection on the first run since it downloads dependencies.

Writing wrapper scripts is pretty easy, it's detailed in the Github README. Feel free to contribute the wrappers you write to the repo, or ask me and I can write wrappers for apps that could be useful.

One current problem though, since the included Mali GPU driver doesn't work with X11, the launched apps are software rendered. Heavier browsers like Firefox are pretty slow because of that. I'll experiment with open source drivers that do work with X11 later but for now that is a limitation of the script.

[New Gear] First ever proper camera! EOS 200D (Rebel SL2) + 18-135mm STM + 24mm f2.8

Hey everyone!

I've been wanting to get into photography for quite a while now and I just got my first ever camera around two months ago, it's a second hand Canon 200D (Rebel SL2), and the past month I've sold the 18-55mm kit lens acquired two lenses: EF-S 18-135mm STM and a EF-S 24mm f2.8 pancake prime.

I've been loving both the camera and the lenses, the first pic is my main setup, the 18-135 on a quick sling strap. It's a very nice setup, the body + lens weighs around 1kg together and carrying it on a shoulder sling is really comfortable, and the 18-135 is very versatile, I can get wide angle shots + decent telephoto reach at the 135mm end. The second image is my compact walkaround setup, 24mm + wrist strap. It's also really nice, the pancake form factor of the lens is awesome, and since the 200D is rather small anyway for DSLR standards, the whole setup is rather compact. I'm happy with both setups, tho I do want to get a tripod and a proper telephoto lens in the future.

I've also attached 4 of my best shots, they're all shot RAW and edited with Darktable. They're all shot in Av mode at varying apertures.

Beginner user, my best edit yet!

Hey everyone! I'm a long time FOSS lover, just got into photography so I had to try out Darktable. I've been using it for the past 2 months now and I'm genuinely loving it, it's a really nice piece of software. I've set up a few workflows of mine and I've been getting really good results, way better than the jpegs my Canon 200D outputs.

Wanted to share this edit I made of a forest photo I took. Exposure settings:

18mm - f/10.0 - 1/30 - ISO 2000

I mainly shoot in Aperture Priority with ISO at Auto, even with my exposure compensation here at 2/3 stops lower, the background light was overexposed on the original shot.

Did some highlight recovery, Local Contrast module and Diffuse & Sharpen with Local Contrast Fine preset helped bring out the details. The main heavy lifting was done by Color Balance RGB, did a global one for increased chroma and warmer highlights, and then two more with masks for adjusting lighting. I also added an exposure mask going from the top right to the bottom left of the image in a light ray shape, enhancing the lighting of the pathway and the lower part of the tree, that really helped finalize the lighting. Also used Diffuse & Sharpen again with the bloom preset (and uniform blend mask at low transparency to lower the effect) to make the background lights bloom.

Really quite happy with how it turned out, would appreciate any criticism and tips & tricks.
