Had two uncomfortable encounters with drunk crackheads on Trans perth today

I had two really uncomfortable encounters with drunk crackheads on Transperth today, one going to work and one coming home. What a coincidence 😭

I'm a girl and I was by myself both times, which honestly made me feel even more uncomfortable and uneasy.

The first one in the morning this crackhead sat in front of me and was acting really incoherent. I tried not to make eye contact and moved to a different seat closer to the front (bus was quite full) but he followed me and sat in front of me again and asked why did I move. Luckily he got off at the next stop, so I didn't have to deal with him for too long.

Then on my way home just this afternoon another drunk crackhead who was holding a bottle of beer suddenly sat next to me, even though there were other empty seats. He kept squeezing himself into my side until there was basically no space left for me. I tried moving a bit to make some space, but he just kept squeezing over.

I eventually confronted him to move away after 15 minutes and thankfully he did then I moved to the seat behind the bus driver and told him what happened. The bus driver was actually really kind and kept checking on me afterwards, which I appreciated. But he didn't call to report the incident or ask the guy to get off the bus.

I was honestly really uncomfortable and uneasy the whole time and no one else on the bus seemed to really care or even try to help. I get that people probably don't want to get involved but it feels pretty horrible when you're sitting there feeling unsafe and everyone just ignores it.

I'm pretty shaken up by the whole thing. I know you can call the transperth emergency services if you're in immediate danger, but what are you supposed to do when the person is literally sitting right next to you? You don't know if confronting them is going to make things worse and trying to call someone while they're sitting right there doesn't feel safe either.

What happened to Sevak Simonian? An experienced bushwalker disappeared in Australia's Blue Mountains in 2014, leaving behind his car but no trace of himself

On 20 October 2014, 21-year-old Sevak Simonian was last seen in Sydney. Four days later, his family found his car abandoned at the end of Kanangra Boyd Road in Kanangra-Boyd National Park after being led there by one of Sevak's closest friends.

Despite a 17-day search involving police, helicopters, cadaver dogs, SES volunteers and experienced bushwalkers, nothing was found. No backpack, no phone, no clothing and no remains have ever been recovered.

The New South Wales Coroner declared Sevak legally dead in 2019 but was unable to determine how or where he died.

Background

Sevak lived with his parents and brothers in Belrose, New South Wales. Friends described him as quiet, intelligent and someone who loved nature. He spent a lot of time bushwalking, kept fish and coral, and was interested in organic farming.

He worked at Bunnings (Australian home improvement store) in Narrabeen and also delivered food for an Indian restaurant. His family said it wasn't unusual for him to go bushwalking, but he would usually let someone know where he was going.

He had no diagnosed mental illness and there was no evidence he was suicidal.

The last confirmed sighting

The last confirmed sighting of Sevak was on the evening of 20 October 2014. CCTV showed him at Chatswood Bunnings with his friend Zareh Ohanian, returning timber just after 8 pm.

His parents believe he came home later that night because food in the kitchen had been moved.

The following evening he failed to turn up for his delivery shift. His employer couldn't contact him, and neither could his family.

After two days of trying to reach him and speaking with friends, his parents reported him missing.

Finding the car

The next day, Sevak's father and brother went searching with Zareh.

According to the coronial findings, Zareh suggested they search the Blue Mountains and eventually directed them down Kanangra Boyd Road. About 27 kilometres from the park entrance, they found Sevak's car parked at the end of the road.

The coroner later said it was "highly implausible" this was simply a lucky guess and concluded Zareh must have known where Sevak had gone, although exactly how he knew was never established.

When police searched the car they found fertiliser, timber palings, a new Nokia phone still in its box and Sevak's well-known "snake boots". His usual phone was missing.

His family said he would never normally head into remote bushland without those boots.

The search

The search began on 25 October and became the largest ever conducted in Kanangra-Boyd National Park.

Search teams covered walking tracks, ridgelines, valleys and waterways using helicopters, four-wheel drives, trail bikes, volunteer bushwalkers and cadaver dogs.

Nothing connected to Sevak was ever found.
Search coordinators later told the inquest that if Sevak had still been alive and mobile after the search began, they believed he would likely have encountered searchers or been able to attract attention.

Cannabis cultivation

During the investigation police learned that Sevak had been growing cannabis on a small scale.

Several friends told the inquest that he had become interested in setting up remote "guerrilla" grows in bushland and believed Zareh was involved as well.

Police also found cannabis seeds, growing equipment and internet searches relating to Kanangra-Boyd National Park and survival techniques.

The fertiliser and timber in Sevak's car were consistent with someone preparing or maintaining a grow site.

However, investigators found no evidence that Sevak was involved in organised crime or that his disappearance was connected to drug debts or violence.

Zareh Ohanian

Zareh became one of the more controversial parts of the investigation.
Police established that he had lied about when he last saw Sevak and changed parts of his story after CCTV footage was discovered. Phone records showed he repeatedly tried to contact Sevak after he disappeared.

Friends later testified that they believed Zareh knew more than he admitted, but whenever they confronted him he refused to explain how he knew where the car was.

Police intended to interview him again, but in 2016 Zareh died in Brazil after a cocaine capsule he was allegedly transporting internally ruptured.

Any information he may have had died with him.

Coroner's findings

The investigation found no evidence that Sevak had used his bank accounts, passport, Medicare card or phone after October 2014.

The Coroner concluded that Sevak had died but could not determine how, when or exactly where.

There was insufficient evidence to conclude he died by accident, suicide or foul play.

Discussion

The strongest unanswered question is still Zareh's knowledge.

The coroner was satisfied he knew where Sevak had gone, but there's no evidence he was involved in Sevak's death. It's possible he knew about a hidden cannabis grow and didn't want to admit it because it would incriminate him.

At the same time, Kanangra-Boyd is extremely rugged country, and accidental deaths there are not unheard of.

-

Do you think this was most likely a hiking accident that left no recoverable trace, or do you think there's something more to Zareh's role than the evidence was able to establish?

If you have any information that could assist the investigation or help provide answers to Sevak's family, please contact Crime Stoppers Australia on 1800 333 000 or submit a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Mentally clocked off around 10am this morning but somehow this arvo has gone for about three business weeks

Normally I'd be thinking about making a sneaky early exit... but the only other person from my team in the office is my boss (out of 12 people)😂

So here I am looking busy until knock-off

Happy Friday, legends! 🍻

Anyone else feel like this Perth winter has been unusually mild and warmer than usual?

Yeah we had some heavy rain yesterday, but before that it barely rained for a few weeks at least in my area (SOR). It doesn't feel as cold as previous winters either. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the same?

AITAH for having a work crush while being in a 5-year relationship

I (mid-20s) have been with my boyfriend for 5 years. We started dating during college and have grown together through school, graduation, and now the transition into full-time work.

When I first started my job, I honestly hated it. I dreaded waking up, going in every day, and felt completely unmotivated. During that time, I found myself looking forward to seeing a coworker. He became the reason I was excited to show up, put effort into my appearance, and try harder at work.

Over time, I developed a crush on him. We’ve never done anything physical or said anything inappropriate, and our conversations are still mainly about work. However, there’s definitely a feeling of tension between us. We catch each other looking, make eye contact often, and I sometimes feel like he’s checking me out. When it’s just the two of us, there’s an awkward chemistry or tension that I can’t really explain.

Part of me feels like it’s harmless because nothing
has happened and I’ve kept things professional. But another part of me feels guilty because I know I’m getting a sense of excitement and validation from someone other than my boyfriend.

I do love my boyfriend, and we have built a lot together over these past 5 years. But I’m questioning whether having this crush, enjoying the attention, and letting this person become my motivation to get through work makes me the AH.
I haven’t acted on these feelings, but I also don’t want to ignore that they exist.

is he attracted or uncomfortable?

I work with a guy who's really outgoing and talks to everyone. But when it's just the two of us he's usually just quiet unless I start the conversation. Once I do, he talks normally and tend to keep the convo going.
I've also noticed that when I greet good morning or say bye he sometimes seems awkward, especially if other people are around.

Another thing is we make eye contact a lot. If I walk past his desk or I'm talking to someone near him, I often catch him looking at me and we end up making eye contact. It happens pretty much every day. At work parties or when I walk into the kitchen or a room he's already there, I also notice him looking at my direction and our eyes would meet.

I know nobody can know what he's thinking, but does this sound like he could be nervous around me, uncomfortable or am I reading too much into it?

EOFY Party

Anyone else got an EOFY party coming up?
Is your workplace doing it on the actual EOFY which is on a Tuesday or are they just moving it to another day?

Our company's having ours at a pub on Tuesday which feels like such a weird choice for drinks. Curious what everyone else is doing.

Has anyone ever stalked the person who got the role you were rejected for?

Got knocked back for a position recently after lengthy interview process and couldn't help myself so I had to look up who they ended up hiring on Linkedin. Honestly it's such a relief when they're clearly more qualified or have a way stronger background. You can close the app accept your fate and move on.
But what if they're not? What if their experience is somehow even way less? Do you just sit with that? Does it make you lose faith in the whole process a bit?
Curious if anyone else has gone down this rabbit hole and how you dealt with it.

Accepted permanent role after 2 years on contract then got a better offer a week later

Been on a fixed-term contract for almost 2 years and was under the impression I’d go permanent.
About a month ago I was given 4 weeks notice that my contract was ending due to budget issues and they couldn’t convert me to permanent. That honestly stressed me out so I started applying elsewhere.
A couple of weeks later my manager came back and said they could actually make me permanent after all based on performance, so I signed the paperwork. They also mentioned potential promotion after I transition.
Now a week later I’ve received another offer, 25% pay increase, higher role, and immediate step up.
I really like my current place though good people, flexible WFH, and I’m comfortable there. That’s what’s making it hard, especially since I only started looking because I was told my role was ending.
Not sure whether to stay or take the new offer.

Professional or Positive sign?

Had an interview recently and afterward I added one of the hiring managers on LinkedIn (without sending a note/message with the invite). I know some people think this can come across as too desperate so I was a bit unsure about doing it.

She accepted the request almost immediately and the next day she messaged me: “Thanks for the add, it was lovely to meet you.”

Would you read this as a positive sign, or just standard professional friendliness?
