Obscure Chapter: Celebrants

The Celebrants are unique in that they are the only Space Marine Chapter with a gradient colour scheme for their power armour. Other than that, their only known lore from their Chapter is that they were founded during M36.

Their only major mention in Imperial records is that they were ordered to withdraw from the world Phaethon IV and instead take up garrison duty on the Ecclesiarchy's Cardinal World of Nedicta Secundus, where they would protect the Adeptus Ministorum's holy relics from the Tyranid Hive Fleet Kraken. However, this was a plan carefully planned by the Alpha Legion, supposedly under the orders of Alpharius (or was it Omegon?) himself, to get another Chapter isolated, the Crimson Consuls, so that they could destroy them by initiating an Ork WAAAGH!

The plan ended up working as intended and the Crimson Consuls perished, but the Celebrants survived. The Celebrants would go on to then participate with full Chapter strength on the Third War for Armaggedon.

What do you think about the Celebrants? Their colour scheme is obviously what stands out from them, but it's probably a pain to paint.

Obscure Chapter: Death Spectres

The Death Spectres are believed to have been founded during the 13th Cursed Founding, using Raven Guard geneseed. Their founder and first Chapter Master, Corcaedus, brought the Death Spectres to Occuldus, a region in the Ultima Segmentum. This was after he received a vision from the Emperor Himself instructing him to recover a xenos artefact of immense power, the Shariax, which was under the control of the Death Guard Blackshield Crysos Mortug.

Having been founded during the 13th Cursed Founding, they possess the geneseed defect of lacking functioning Mucranoid and Betcher's glands. During ascension, they completely lose their hair and their skin turns white and their eyes turn red.

The Shariax is a strange, throne-like artefact that is closely monitored by the Death Spectres. Each Chapter Master, known as the First Spectre or Megir, must sit on the Shariax and never leave until they die. The throne gives the Death Spectres a strange power that allows them to maintain their service in the Ghoul Stars. Only the Chief Librarian and First Captain may interact with the Chapter Master. Because of the odd nature of the throne, there's a worry about what the Inquisition might to do the Chapter if they discovered it, that's why they keep it as something extremely secretive.

As their Chapter name suggests, the culture of the Death Spectres revolves entirely around death. They believe that those who die in battle will be reborn to fight for the Emperor once again. Members of the Chapter use a special gesture known as the Masrahim, or the salute of skull and throne, where they make a hand gesture that forms the shape of a skull. They make extensive use of power scythes in battle as well.

The Death Spectres also have a strong belief in the Resurrection, a prophecy made by Corcaedus that is somehow connected to the Shariax and which requires a 'Living Chalice'. The meaning of this is unclear. They are also not very fond of mortals; the only ones they respect are those they take in as aspirants. They believe that ordinary people have no right to live unless they serve the Imperium as they do. Because of this, they have multiple designated Breeding Worlds.

What do you think of the Death Spectres? They definitely have something strange going on!

Obscure Chapter: Red Talons

The Red Talons are one of the first Successor Chapters. They were founded during the Second Founding, just seven years after the Siege of Terra in M31. Because of this, they gained a great deal of renown, and have a long history of battling the Traitor Legions, whom they hate the most.

Their origin story is really interesting. They descended from the outcasts and most violent members of the Iron Hands Morragul Clan, who were led by Iron Lord Autek Mor. Mor had a sinister reputation within his legion long before the outbreak of the Horus Heresy, and dark rumours had followed him for years, including accusations that his geneseed wasn't Ferrus'. He was known to have killed several members of his own legion, and to have ruled his company with an iron fist. He eventually became the Chapter Master of the Red Talons.

Since the Great Scouring, the Inquisition has sent them out to hunt down Renegade Chapters. The Chapter has taken part in significant battles, including the War of the Beast and the Gothic War and, currently, Armaggedon. There is plenty of reading material about them, and they have many named characters which are really fun to learn about!

What do you think of the Red Talons? It's interesting to come across the occasional Obscure Chapter with a lot of lore. Their colour scheme is also simple, making them easy to paint.

Obscure Chapter: Iron Fists

The Iron Fists are one of the few known Iron Hands Successor Chapters. They have almost no lore, but they are known for carrying Storm Shields in the shape of medieval gauntlets and for making extensive use of Land Behemoths.

However, the coolest thing about them is that they were the first chapter to make extensive use of Whirlwind missiles and Whirlwind tanks during the Assault on Hive Vortis. Although the first experimental tanks and missiles failed, they were successful enough to be refined and used by various chapters in the future.

They also took part in the Stygian Crusade, alongside their parent chapter, the Iron Hands, their successor cousins, the Red Talons, and the Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Adeptus Mechanicum, Titans, Battle Sisters, Imperial Knights, and various regiments of Guardsmen, to reclaim the Industrial World of Aura Novis from the Thousand Sons. They have a single named character, a Dreadnought that goes by the name of Wotan, who is maintained by the High Enginseer Pala Greut.

A fun fact about them is that they are incorrectly established as Imperial Fists successors on their display at Warhammer World.

What do you think of the Iron Fists? I think their colour scheme is unique, and I love the fact that they were the first chapter to use Whirlwinds.

My personal favourite Obscure Chapter: Golden Gryphons

The Golden Gryphons are one of those Successor Chapters with absolutely no lore. They were introduced in the 2004 book How to Paint Space Marines as an example of how to create your own custom Chapter, their only other appearance being on Adeptus Astartes: Successor Chapters (Limited Release Booklet), and I've been obsessed with them ever since. Something about their full bling bling golden power armour really stands out to me.

The only known fact about the Golden Gryphons is that their companies are organised by the colour of their imperialis, much like the Scythes of the Emperor. Everything else about them, including their founding, geneseed, current battle brothers, Chapter Master, important characters, homeworld or home fortress, and battles fought, is completely unknown.

I've always homebrewed them similar to their older cousins, the Howling Griffons, a knightly Chapter inspired by medieval Europe that goes to great lengths to defend its honour.

What do you think of the Golden Gryphons? Do you think that maybe their scheme is too blingy? How would you homebrew them?

[21/F] Trying this again!

Hello! I would like to try pen-palling again. The last time I did it was great, and I made lots of friends. Unfortunately, some of those friendships faded because I was busy, and interest died down before we could reach any meaningful point. But I'm free all summer now and I'd love to chat again!

My name is Alex and I'm a girl from Barcelona, Spain. I'm a historian with a background in archaeology, with a particular interest in prehistory, ancient history, and medieval history. I'm looking forward to doing a Master's in Political Science, Archivism or a general Master's that include the three historical periods I've mentioned. My other interests include writing (my goal this summer is to start planning a hard sci-fi novel), gaming (I enjoy games such as Stellaris, CK3, Vic3, EU4 and HOI4 but I'm open to playing anything), and reading (I'm currently reading Larry Niven's Known Space novels, specifically the Man-Kzin Wars spin-offs, I'm also a huge nerd of Warhammer 40,000 lore!). I also love learning new things everyday, and I really enjoy learning languages (currently learning German, but I know other 3; Spanish, Catalan and English. Technically I do have a knowledge on Classical Latin as well!). Other hobbies of mine include cycling, mountaineering and travelling, I love nature!

I would describe myself as a calm and relaxed person. I'm quite shy, so it may take me a while to adapt. I'm looking forward to forming a long-term friendship with people on my age range (20-30 yr). If we get on well and live close to each other, maybe we could meet in person! And who knows what else, haha. I'm open to anyone, but I especially value commitment to keeping in touch! I don't mind what method we use, whether it's snail mail, email or something else. DM me and we'll figure it out!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Meet the Ceruleans!

https://preview.redd.it/2ha35spocn4h1.png?width=1058&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c1fd6757d07d726411b13cddc257f159f30c2f4

The Ceruleans are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter and a successor of the Ultramarines raised during an Unknown Founding (M38). While officially recorded as scions of Roboute Guilliman, Imperial Scholars and Geneators suspect that their true parent chapter are the Blood Angels, due to a suppressed battle-fury specific phenotypical traits observed in their ranks. The Chapter serves as the refounded tragic successors to the Sea Behemoths, a Chapter nearly wiped out from Imperial records due to their disastrous fall to the forces of Chaos.

The Chapter's original incarnation, the Sea Behemoths, was established during the 23rd "Sentinel" Founding in the late 37th Millennium to serve as sentinels on the galactic frontier. Renowned for their expertise in ship-to-ship boarding actions, the Sea Behemoths were a proud brotherhood until a disastrous campaign in which the majority of the Chapter succumbed to the heresy of blood psychosis after their original Chapter Master, Nikodemos, fell to the temptations of the Lord of Skulls, Khorne. Fewer than twenty battle brothers remained loyal to the Emperor, choosing to execute their corrupted kin rather than join them in damnation.

You can read more about the Chapter here: https://wh40khomebrew.fandom.com/wiki/Ceruleans

What do you think? The template I used for the battle-brother pict is annonymous, I couldn't find the original author anywhere.

EDIT: Lore update.

How do I leave a campaign I'm not happy with without being rude?

Hey lads! This isn't that much of a horror story but more like a "searching for advice" post. Also sorry if my English is bad, it's not my first language.

I've joined this campaign about three months ago, when I told a friend of mine I really felt like playing some DnD as a player since I'm usually stuck as a forever DM. Eventually I got in his campaign that's being DM'd by another person after one of their players quit for personal reasons and wasn't able to continue. I got immediately hooked since I really liked the custom world and story the DM made, but I've been having more issues lately, which led me to wanting to quit the campaign.

His campaign has a set of custom races, and I'm playing what would be essentially be an Aarakocra Rogue. Cool. Starts at level 1. First sessions were fun, introducing my character to his world. But what caught my attention is that the DM made a system for "offline roleplaying", from where if you miss a session you can do it by text, or you can advance for a limited time your roleplay. Here you can start seeing the issue.

See, he told me about it because recently I have become real busy with college and wasn't able to assist much. So he giving me this alternative was great! Thing is... Other concurrent players also use the system, and are way more active than me, meaning they get constant individual offline sessions were they level up and are way more advanced than me. Yes, it's on me because I haven't been able to be active, but it also felt weird, because the roleplay hasn't felt connected at all, everyone is just on their own.

What annoyed me last time we roleplayed was the following. My character was caught trying to sneak in a guarded palace through the sewers grate. She managed to escape by flying away before being caught, after a small combat section. As this was near the city's walls, my character managed to stand on the walls and then come out outside the city. Cool. DM then tells me that I was lucky, because since it was night-time, the guards didn't manage to identify who I was (they were human guards, no night vision). Cool! Issue comes just before our next session: in the offline roleplay part, DM suddenly informs me that my character is on the brink of collapse from exhaustion and from not having eaten or having drank. I ask, how? He then tells me that, since I didn't manage to do this week's offline session (I warned beforehand I was on my final exams) and the campaign has progressed, he established that my character was identified by the guards in the end and had to run away to the jungle, and since I don't have a high Survival skill, I didn't manage to make a makeshift shelter and didn't manage to sleep, drink, or eat at all. This was decided with a series of dice rolls I didn't partake in.

I feel so confused, and I'm left with no options at all. If I stay in the jungle, my character will die from increased exhaustion from not eating, drinking, or sleeping (I wasn't warned beforehand that there was such a system!). If I return to the city, I will get immediately caught by the guards and be sentenced to a possible execution (DM's words). He also told me that I can circumvent both situations if I'm "smart" about my roleplay, but I'm also limited as well because of my exhaustion, my rolls have debuffs, and I have a lesser chance to infiltrate back again or do anything at all. Another issue is that, since I joined later than the other players and wasn't able to roleplay lately and utilise the offline system because of college, they have leveled up to level 4 and I'm still stuck at level 1, being at a massive disadvantage every time we're together, and me being a pain to the group because of it!

I'm not sure if I did anything wrong, if I did, please tell me so I notice. But I've been pretty unhappy with the campaign lately, and I've considered leaving, because this is not the first time it happens as well! I just don't want to seem rude either, specially because I was the one to insist to get into the campaign, and I don't have any personal issues about the people involved.

Thank you for your help!

Beware of this MLM company!

Hello! First time in this sub. I just wanted to share my experience with MLMs, as I almost got hired by one. I will give their name: Vitha Group SPA, so you avoid them.

When I first got called, I was excited, since I've been looking for a job for a while now. They called me for an administration team position, which was fine for me. Then, the first suspicious thing happened: they told me to have an interview in person the next day. But I decided to go anyway.

First red flag when I went there: it wasn't an individual interview, it was in group. This is where I started suspecting even more. Then, the typical motivational speech they give to you; no mentions of what you'll work as exactly, salary... Only all about their company, their great products, how you can ascend easily... That's where I said, ok, something's definitely fishy there. They told me to go again the next day after their showed me my apparent work office, but I invented an excuse, they told me no problem, and I went today.

The day I didn't go I dedicated to investigate about this company, since I'd never heard of them before. Apparently, they're Italian, and I could find very little information on them: all I found were negative reviews on how they were an MLM scam, and how other people that went to interviews had a very similar experience. So I said, ok, I will see for myself tomorrow if this is true, and, in fact, it was! I was supposed to work on an office as I said as part of an administration team; what they told me is that I'd go sell from door to door their products and that I'd get money from the sales I make!

Thankfully I detected the scam earlier and was able to get out as soon as I could. Be very careful with this company, as apparently they're known to harass employers that quit; don't waste your time with them like I have. The most positive thing about this whole ordeal is that I made new friends, who were people that also almost fell into the scam, and now we hang out often!
