Don’t be fooled

This swift may look smiley and enchanting and adorable on this pic, but I’ve just had to move the house martin that was in with it after I found the swift with its huge mouth over the martin’s entire head!!

I try my best to not get attached to the birds I’m rehabbing but omg these swifts have my heart 🥹 so special! sometimes I think about the millions of miles they will (hopefully) fly one day and it makes me emotional, they’re amazing birds

What is this in my pond??

New pond, still murky and sorting itself out as you can see - so far we’ve only had (LOADS) of mosquito larvae show up so I’ve been checking every day hoping something new will come along to eat them!

This morning I saw this weird thing swimming around, I can’t find it and it’s strange fluffy white head on any identification charts - anyone know what we’ve got??

(Edit: also just noticed watching it back, at about 00:06 its tail seems to hit some other darker thing that swims off under the water? can anyone ID that either??)

Look at this hangry baby blackbird I am rehabbing - never quite seen that sitting posture before 😂

Good morning from the gang

You guys seemed to like seeing the little gang of orphaned house martins I’m rehabbing (and a swift at the bottom)

So here’s another exquisite photo of them all facing forward from this morning

I love their little eyes, they seem to be conveying so much, if only I could understand

They watch and wait

Thought you might like to see the orphaned house martins I am rehabbing, they like to stare at me until it is time to eat again

See that little beak poking out to the left? They are all sitting on top of the swift chick I’m also rehabbing, it likes to burrow underneath them to keep warm haha

bed head

I will never not be completely besotted with the floofy head tufts of baby European robins

Before and after decorating my first wildlife pond!

I started the pond 2 weeks ago and I’ve been gathering materials to decorate the edges, I spent all day working on it yesterday and I’m so happy with it I wanted to share!

Mosquito larvae have arrived! 🦟

I only started my pond 2 weeks ago and was surprised to see signs of life in it today!

For a second I thought they were tadpoles so I was a bit disappointed to find out they were actually mosquito larvae 😅

That being said, this is actually a good thing right? The start of the food chain and stuff?

I’m in the UK so mosquitos aren’t dangerous here but also aren’t ideal, do you think it will take long for things to show up and eat them? And what does eat them, frogs? Anything else?

Even though they kinda freak me out I am pretty excited to have life in the wildlife pond already! Just interested to hear other people’s experiences and advice on this

good morning from this little orb

I’m rehabbing 2 European robin nestlings and they are adorably round, I love it when they look directly at the camera like this

My little pond journey begins!!

(Pond plants are coming, sticks are temporary while I find something good to act as a ramp! Will fill more when we get more rainwater)

Any tips for newbies let me know!
Also the rain water from my water butt is brown but clear ish, that’s ok right?

Can’t believe just how EXCITED I am about starting a pond!! I’m literally so happy to be part of the pond community haha
