How do I tell if I've met all the conditions for the newcomers chequing account bonus?

Hi all,

According to my understanding, I would have completed the requirements by now. According to previous posts, the bonus comes in 2 weeks after completing the requirements, but it's been more than that for me and I haven't received it.

I was just wondering if there's a way to check so that I know if I havent met them

Thanks

is it mandatory to wear a swimsuit to the pool?

hi everyone

im only in ottawa for two months and i signed up for the athletics facility which I noticed included the pool as well. I was wondering if it's mandatory for me to swear a proper swimsuit to the pool or if I could do a t-shirt tucked in leggings.

if it is mandatory, where can I grab cheap swimming equipment from?

finally found a bike and bought it but not sure if i made the right choice

i made a post earlier about how i was having a hard time finding a cheap bike on FB marketplace. I recently found an ad for a $60 bike, movelo algonquin 26", and it was in the same street so i went and got it.

problem is, i don't know anything about bikes. i'm new to canada and where i'm from we don't bike at all.

the bike is rideable. brakes seemed fine. some rust on the chains. i just hope i don't have to end up paying more for any repairs and stuff.

i'm hoping to still get it checked to make sure the tyres and brakes and all are fine. is there any place i could get it checked for free, and if it turns out that something does need to be fixed, it's affordable?

looking for a bike for 2 months

hi everyone. i'm in ottawa for an internship and i will only be here till the end of august. i am looking for a bicycle i could use during that time and then return. my budget is unfortunately a bit tight, around $60-70. i'm near carleton and it is difficult for me to commute, so i haven't gotten much luck on FB marketplace.

is there anywhere i could get a bike in this budget that i could return before i go? thanks

man, i don't know how i'm surviving a few months here

I made a post a couple days ago asking how one meets new people here if they're not a student. For context, I'm an undergrad student interning at Carleton for a few months, and I'm not from Canada.

It seemed that the only way I could actually meet someone was in class or through club events, neither of which I can do, especially since it's summer break. I also don't drink so socialising in a pub or something is not an option for me.

I tried going out of comfort zone today to talk to a group of people who seemed to be my age. Turned out they were 16 and they thought I was in the 8th grade. I am 21.

I'm quite used to meeting my friends often back home, so it's been weird not talking to anyone all day for a few weeks now. And I'm not sure how to change that so I don't spend the next few months the same way.

cheapest place to get good fruits and vegetables near old ottawa south?

hello everyone, i'm new to ottawa and am currently on a very tight budget. I got a few fruits from walmart before and some from whole foods as well, but was wondering if anyone else knew a place where i could get cheaper fruits and vegetables from. I have no idea what reasonable rates are in Canada, so please also let me know how much i should expect things like potatoes, tomatoes, onions, strawberries, raspberries, apples, bananas etc to cost.

thanks in advance!

how does one get to meet new people here?

for clarification, i'm not a regular carleton student. it's my first time in canada, and i'm working at carleton over the summer.

it might be because it's the summer and there aren't a lot of people here, but i've barely found an opportunity to socialise. i've been here for almost a week but i honestly have no idea how i'm supposed to meet new people. i'm Muslim so i can't go to bars and a lot of non-halal cafe's. i'm an only intern so i dont have coworkers either.

what are some other ways i can meet people here?

hi!

so i installed obsidian a while ago with the aim of turning it into a "second brain." the idea was that i would put any research papers i was studying/wanted to study, or review movies i've seen or books i've read. i wanted to create as much as i was consuming, so not only did i want to turn this into a centralized system for my content, but also develop a habit of reflecting on my thoughts and writing.

the only issue is, i just can't get started. i don't know where to start and how to start. i built a system up by following a youtube video, i thought surely this would be a good starting point, but i ended up never opening the app again.

the current idea is that i dedicate some time within my routine for this, maybe in the start of the day. but i'm not really great at following routines so i'm worried this will become just another thing in my routine that i never end up doing.

curious to know how you guys use obsidian and stay consistent with it and how it has made a change in your life.

thanks!
