I’ve lived in the UK for about two years (with breaks in the middle) and I was wondering if any international candidates who have completed Level 1 Enhanced can share their experiences. I’ve been waiting for over 3 months for my clearance to come through😞

I'm collecting data for my PhD research at two different prisons (interviewing offenders). Both prisons have given me honorary RA contracts so I can conduct my research and access confidential records.

The data collection is for my PhD studies (not a separate RA project), so I was wondering if it's appropriate to list these honorary positions under my research/work experience on my CV and LinkedIn as "Honorary Research Assistant".

I wouldn't claim to be employed by them ofc. My thinking is that these honorary contracts demonstrate experience working in high-security settings, knowing security protocols, accessing sensitive records, and interviewing people who have committed serious crimes. Would probably help in finding a non-academic job

Has anyone else been in a similar position? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences :)

Just interested to see how many of you have desktops in your offices. My uni's told me that I cannot request a desktop; only laptops can be provided from this year. PhD students from previous cohorts still have desktops in their offices. I have a personal laptop already so I dont need a second one. :/

I'm just trying to understand the new law. I signed an AST agreement with a private student accommodation before 1st May 2026. The tenancy will start in September 2026 and end in August 2027

As an international student, I had only two options: pay 12 months' rent upfront or use a UK guarantor service. The cheapest guarantor service costs about GBP 1k extra, so I decided I'd rather pay the rent upfront than pay an extra grand.

However, with the new rules, do I still need to pay the full year's rent in advance? On the agreement, the charge date shows as 27/08/26. I would honestly prefer paying rent on a monthly basis but I'm not sure if this is possible.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
