Web-Based apps Glitching and cazy Flickering - Both windows and Linux. Help!
PROBLEM:
(Screen recording https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZXIviU7BQY)
Flickering, graphical glitches and imprecise/weird mouse behaviour mostly on web-based applications. Keyboard navigation works perfectly.
All browsers are affected, with Edge pretty much unusable, Windows Search, Final Fantasy 14 launcher, Discord also pretty much unusable. Most other programs work fine, including games, which run completely fine.
LINUX ALSO AFFECTED - I booted Linux Mint installation on a different drive, and in the test environment desktop the problem also happens when I open the browser.
- Glitches are visible in screenshots.
- Occurs with RX 6800 XT installed.
- Occurs with RX 6800 XT physically removed, using the 7700X iGPU.
- Occurs in Windows and Linux.
- Also occurred in Windows Safe Mode.
- Does not occur in BIOS.
- Removed all peripherals and problem persisted
- When CPU is under heavy load during stress tests, the glitches are severely reduced in Firefox and Windows Search menu, somewhat reduced in Discord, the same in Edge
- Played games for for 3h20m+ Sunday night with no issues on the game, while browser/Discord glitches continued.
WHEN IT STARTED:
- Friday, August 14^(th) 2026, around 11:40ish p.m - I was playing a game (World of Warcraft Classic TBC) on main monitor, and had firefox open on second monitor, watching videos. PC had been on for around 10 hours, and I had been playing games for the previous 3ish hours. The flickering and glitches suddenly started happening on Firefox while the game was completely fine. I checked Discord and it was also glitching.
SYSTEM:
- Ryzen 7 7700X
- Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX Rev. 1.1
- RX 6800 XT
- 32GB RAM (2x16gb) Kingston FURY DDR5-4800
- BIOS F42b
-No overclocking settings were ever used, neither in BIOS nor Windows/3rd party software.
ATTEMPTED FIXES ON WINDOWS:
- DWM/MPO Fix (OverlayTestMode in DWM registry)
- Updated GPU drivers
- Removed GPU drivers and used windows basic video drivers
- Reinstalled GPU drivers.
- Updated Chipset Drivers
- Updated BIOS
RAM TESTS:
- MemTest86: ~8.5h / 9 passes = 0 errors
CPU TESTS:
- Prime95 Smallest FFT: 1 hour = 0 errors
- Prime95 Large FFT: 1 hour = 0 erros
- CoreCycler: all 8 cores = 0 errors and 0 WHEA
- OCCT CPU Extreme/Variable: 1h = 0 errors
- OCCT CPU Extreme/Steady: 1h = 0 errors
- OCCT Linpack: 1h = 0 errors
GPU Tests:
- Furmark 3d stress test - 30 minutes, no issues
- OCCT 3D Adaptive Steady, Extreme Load: 30 min = 0 errors
INTEGRATED GPU TESTS:
- RX 6800 XT physically removed = glitches persist
- OCCT 3D Adaptive using 7700X iGPU: 30 min = 0 errors
*Normal browser/Discord glitches continued during the test without worsening
NOTABLE WINDOWS EVENTS:
- DWM Event 500 at ~22:29: reported excessive video-memory/resource contention. It referenced an old RX 580 that was used in a previous PC.
- Later incident with RX 6800 XT installed: severe freeze while closing Discord.

- The 0x117 dump includes dxgmms2!VidSchiReportHwHang.
- No corresponding conventional WHEA hardware errors found.
