Should I close my Westpac CC before applying for an AMEX after previous rejections?

Looking to apply for the AMEX Qantas Ultimate and want to maximise my chances after being rejected by AMEX twice in the last 24 months.

Current situation:
- $100k+ income
- High credit score
- Mortgage added within the last 12 months and one current credit card (Westpac), which I was already planning to close.
- 3 other cards closed within the last 24 months and 2 previous AMEX rejections
- Recently started a novated lease, not yet showing on my credit report

I’m wondering whether I should close the Westpac card now and let my credit file settle, or keep it open until after applying.
Does another recently closed card potentially make me look more like a churner, or would reducing my existing credit be viewed more favourably by AMEX?
Anyone who has successfully got an AMEX after previous rejections?

The cards I've held:

- 2022: ANZ credit card rejection and Westpac altitude

- 2023 NAB and CBA cc

- 2024: March AMEX rejection 1, HSBC cc (didn't go ahead with cc but it's on my file), CBA cc, 2024 ANZ cc, December AMEX rejection 2

- 2025: Jan AMEX rejection 3, St George cc, CBA cc, 2025 Westpac cc (still open)

Quote check for a used Tesla Model 3 please

Lease term is 60 months

Tyres and maintenance might be a little low but chose to undercook it and go into a deficit/contribute more later if needed

Online calc shows an interest rate closer to 8%
