Pokemon Recharged Emerald review

Pokemon Recharged Emerald is a really fun rom hack that feels like a love letter to the OG Emerald. The story stays completely faithful to the original which is a good thing if you're looking for that nostalgic experience, but the move tutor is significantly expanded so you can run a much wider variety of movesets for pretty much any mon you choose.

The graphics look modern and fresh, and having your lead mon follow you around is a nice touch. A small but fun detail I noticed is that when entering a building your mon goes into its ball and you can actually see what type of Pokéball it's in. Tiny detail but adds a lot of charm.

One QoL feature I really appreciated is that you don't need to teach your mons HMs. If a mon is capable of using an HM move the option just pops up automatically which saves a ton of moveslot headaches.

If you want the classic Emerald experience with better graphics, improved move tutors and some small but meaningful QoL additions, this is absolutely worth playing.

My standout mons were Alakazam and Milotic. Alakazam always moved first and hit like a truck, genuinely carried me through wattson and flannery. Milotic was a mon I'd never used before and it surprised me, incredibly tanky and hits hard at the same time. Solo'd Phoebe with her lol. It was a bit confusing figuring out how to evolve Feebas but worth it. From what I did, using 6 Kelpsy berries and 6 Bluk berries worked but don't quote me on that.

Pokemon LeafGreen Overgrown review

Leafgreen Regrown is a ROM hack of LeafGreen that keeps the classic Kanto experience intact while adding a bunch of QoL improvements, learnset changes, and most importantly trade evolutions now trigger via level up which is a huge deal for solo players.

Played through on hard mode which means level caps, set battle mode, and no items during battle, which made the experience genuinely challenging especially toward the end.

Breezed through the Elite Four but the Champion gave me real trouble due to the level gap, cause my mons were around mid 50s while his were in the 60s lol.

If you're looking for a hack that stays faithful to the original story while smoothing out the rough edges of the OG LeafGreen, this is exactly that. Don't expect a completely overhauled experience, but do expect a cleaner more enjoyable version of a classic.

Recommended for anyone wanting to replay Kanto with a bit more challenge and convenience.
