winter starting question

hey yall,

im looking into getting a ram 2500 next year, most likely used 5th gen. Ive been educating myself on the platform and a big problem ive been trying to get answers to is how do you start it in the winter without a block heater.

I live in toronto where we can have a week straight of -20 to -28 and sometimes -30 degree weather. I plan on getting the banks with the 1500 watt upgrade cuz i heard the bolt in the grid heater can kill your engine.

Anyways, ill be able to plug in at home and with the banks coils im sure it will start up fine. problem is that where I work I cant plug in and the truck would be sitting outside in the parking lot for 8-12 hours. Is it fine to start if its been sitting for that long in -30 degree weather? is it just a bullet you gotta take with owning a diesel where it gets extremely cold? or are there solutions to this.

thanks guys.

2500 or 3500

Hey yall,

Looking to get your opinion on what I should get. I know the 2500 has the 68RFE and from what ive read seems like a hit or miss (mostly miss according to some people) and if I was to get the 3500 it would only be because it has the aisin as an available transmission.

Is the 68RFE horror stories blown way out of proportion?

the prices/mileage for 2500 and 3500 are very similar where I live and im kind of leaning more towards the 3500 solely because of the transmission.

btw I won't be hauling, i was in the mexican gtr game for a while, decided I wanna try diesel platform and cummins won the race. This is more for a show truck, thats fun to drive obviously.

Edit: Sorry guys, forgot to say im buying used. 2025 and newer truck prices where im at are ridiculous rn.

toronto peeps i need some advice

Ill make it quick, I live in toronto, I own a 21' f250 6.7. Starting to have problems emission wise.

Im thinking of deleting, but I live in scarborough AKA asscrack of toronto. Idk how cops are with deleted diesels around here and mississauga, which is where i work.

if you guys live in my area and have experience with a deleted diesel around scarborough pls let me know. should I do the delete or just tank the emissions repair to not get in trouble.

Heard some tuners up in barrie can make pretty clean tunes that wont blow smoke at every light but i dont have much info.
