Celebrating with some hog hunting

Celebrated the NFA ruling with the first hogs with this rifle and 4473 suppressor. JK Armament Pro KOR 556K on a 16” Geissele Super Duty. Snagged 12 total last night with the group but this was the biggest one. Picture doesn’t do it justice. Right around 250 lbs. took 3 hits of .308 and 4 rounds to the head of 5.56 before it finally gave up. Can’t tell from the picture as it’s covered but the first round of .308 punched behind its neck and exited. Second .308 hit its back left leg and nearly severed it which is what dropped it. Took 4 shots from 5.56 in the top of its head before it stopped fighting.

Suppressed night vision hunting is the way.

Echocore Sector 5.56 - Compact

Back again. No scientific data. Just opinions as a guy that shoots a lot and with a lot of cans. My thoughts on the Echocore Sector compact. New can from a new company. Is it worth it? Should you pick one up? Why do I like it? Answers may be in the video. If not, ask and I’ll do my best to give you some info.

If you take a rifle class without a can I don’t like you

Geissele Super Duty 16” w/ Driven Arms Co DRVN 556
HK MR556A4 w/ TBAC Spiro

Shooting next to people with SBRs and no suppressors is rough. I forgot how much concussion you have to put up with. Felt like someone was smacking me in the side of the head all weekend.

Approval just in time for Tuesday

Two more Form 1 approvals this week and another Form 4 approved today. OCL Infinity 556K courtesy of the man himself, Andrew. I’ve got a 2 Gun match, PCSL match, and Ohio Range Day planned with this suppressor. (I may be the first person shooting this can from a boat. Someone fact check me on that.) Gonna be putting it through my personal testing criteria and seeing how it holds up to some of my other favorites on the market.

PCSL is fun

Little rain on the last stage of the day. But I wanted to make sure I shot everything so I stuck it out. Been getting into comp a lot more. On my way to A class in USPSA limited optics and open minor both from concealment. Also really liking PCSL now that it’s finally in my area. Shooting 2 gun is just super fun. Finished 6th out of 56 at this match. 82.79% to top shooter. Improving with every match.

Two Stamp Tuesday Testing

Today’s two stamper is the MK18 with the FOR Systems DRVN 556.

So far the DRVN is a solid option. There’s basically no info about this suppressor out there. I’ve never even met another person that’s shot it. But I have a good relationship with FOR and Driven was kind enough to hook me up with a bit of a discount so I really wanted to get one. So far I’m impressed.

This suppressor is low back pressure but it doesn’t use the usual gas porting. It’s all internal geometry. I’d say this makes it slightly more gassy than something like the Monarch Recce or more common designs that port the gas out the front but still very comfortable to shoot all day in your standard shooting conditions.

Because it’s not porting the gas out you get better sound suppression performance. I’d compare it to some of the other better sound suppression performance out there. Comparing it to a Polonium 556 it outperformed that while being less back pressure. Shooting it directly next to a Ridgeback Rhino I personally thought the DRVN was a bit quieter. I’ll be comparing it directly to some of my go to 5.56 cans a bit more as time goes on. (FOR monarch recce, Echocore Sector, Ventum, Spiro, Flow 556, Polo, etc)

Muzzle flash wasn’t really tested as it was a sunny daytime session. I have shot it indoors a little and noticed some sparking which isn’t normal for a non-titanium suppressor. I attributed that to maybe a lack of carbon inside but I could be wrong. We’ll see as I shoot it more and with night vision.

Overall I’m happy with it so far and look forward to shooting it more. It’ll get put through its paces pretty quick. I’m not using any real testing methods aside from “go out and shoot” but I do that quite a bit.

More PCSL 2 Stamp

Only have first person video this time so the audio, which in general already doesn’t tell much, really doesn’t show performance this time. But the FOR Systems DRVN 556 is showing promise. Good sound suppression, a little more gas than your normal high flow suppressor but it doesn’t have any actual gas porting on it. Just internal geometry to reduce back pressure however it can. It is still very comfortable to shoot on a MK18. More “testing” to come. And the TBAC Spiro will be next up for the July match.

TBAC Spiro coating issues

Took the TBAC Spiro to the range to test. I fired 10 rounds to check zero and then put it back in a soft savior range bag. This is what the coating looked like when I got home. This is wild. Can’t believe the coating is flaking this bad. By the time I actually start using it this thing will be completely raw.

Edit: Apparently TBAC has already addressed this. I also got a reply from them very quickly. The solvent they use on the suppressors resulted in a bad coating on a batch of cans. They’ve already told me to start the RMA process.

Time for testing

Got two more form 4s approved. TBAC Spiro and FOR Systems DRVN 556. Heard good things about the Spiro but haven’t seen them much in the wild yet. Haven’t heard a single thing about the DRVN but I love my Monarch Recce so I figured I’d give it a try. Host guns for testing will be a MK18, MR556 11”, and SOLGW Sage 12.5”. And by testing I mean shooting them at various PCSL and 2 gun matches and just seeing how I like them. I’m not nerdy enough to get good data.

Two Stamp hog hunting (NSFW blood)

First hunting trip with the MR556 and Echocore Sector Compact. 11” MR556 using AAC 77gr. This guy was running across the dirt road just before packing up so I didn’t have time to hang around and see if he’d make it to the feeder. 60 yards or so. 4 known hits. Midsection, low belly, neck. And through the eye. 5.56 isn’t ideal out of a short barrel but it can get the job done. Especially on some of the smaller hogs.

Bringing goodies to work and a friend brought in his new B&T GL-06. Gotta love approvals. Waiting on 2 more Form 4 approvals right now.

How things started vs how they’re going now

Started with 2 basic PSA ARs 6 years ago. First gun owner in my family. Now I’m using PSA lowers on builds that costs 10x the amount and have a career in the firearms industry.
