SUMMER LEAGUE POSTCARDS - CHAMPIONSHIPS: Wenatchee AppleSox win the West Coast League championship

The AppleSox defeated the Corvallis Knights 8-7 in the single game final, in Wenatchee, WA. The AppleSox trailed 7-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Reese Vassar (Arizona Christian) hit a bases-loaded triple to win it.

Easton Brooks (Utah Tech) got the win. He pitched the final 4 1/3 innings, allowed no runs on two hits, struck out eight of the 15 batters he faced. Four of the Knights' runs were unearned. Kellen Segel (Linn-Benton CC), who threw only nine pitches, got the loss.

Vassar finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. Ryan Severns (UC Santa Barbara) finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Knights. Attendance: 1,262. Box score

This was the AppleSox' sixth title, but the first one in 14 years. That's partially because the Knights won eight championships during that period.

Vancouver Challenger F: J.J. Wolf def. Mark Lajal 7-5 6-1.

Strange match; Lajal was up 4-1 in the first set, won only two games the rest of the way. There was a long rain delay near the end of the first set, and that might have had something to do with it. They had to move the match indoors after the rain delay.

I saw both Wolf and Lajal play on Wednesday, was very impressed with Lajal; he hits the ball hard. Didn't learn until today that Wolf was once ranked #39.

"The Twilight Zone" episode about Diabaté

I just watched it. Season 1 episode 28. (There were 36 episodes in season 1.) The title is "A Nice Place to Visit", and the stars were Larry Blyden and Sebastian Cabot. (Cabot was in a whackload of movies and TV episodes, but is probably best known for the series "Family Affair".) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734544/
The basic idea, if you haven't guessed it already, is that the main character is bored stiff after a month of nothing but winning at gambling and access to beautiful women, unlimited cash, and fancy cars.

National Championship tournament thread, first day

Anyone here surprised that Taylor lost to William Carey? I wasn't.

The game was tied 4-4 going into the ninth inning, and William Carey scored three runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Taylor Walters (the winning run) and a two-RBI double by Jayden Mark. Jimmie Johnson pitched the final 3 2/3 innings for the Crusaders, allowed one hit, struck out three.

Taylor will play Doane tomorrow.
