Onions on everything!! 🍪🧅

I made my first successful batch of picked onions 9 days ago and they keep getting better and I’m finding more stuff to put them on. My wife thinks I’m going crazy, but these were legitimately amazing eaten on top of her homemade cookies tonight. Holy crap. So good. Long time onion lover and I’ve tried a few batches that just didn’t turn out great. This was just red onion, salt, sugar, vinegar and water. I think the extras ruined it for me in the past.

So, do I unload the items or no??

I've had a couple interactions lately checking out at our local stores and it's just getting bad in terms of the expectations on what gets removed from the carts. I was walking up to a checkout line with one customer finishing their transaction, no line ahead of me. The pre-scan person seemed to pass me on because there was zero line at this point. I usually try to move items around so they can be scanned in the cart but it was just kinda full so I started putting some on the conveyor belt. Scanned my membership card and they seemed irritated that I hadn't been pre-scanned already. "Is this ALL from you? What about her?" Pointing at my wife. Yeah, it's ours. "Next time just leave it all in the cart."

I just can't tell what the expectation is now. Should I have slowed down to let the pre-scanner do that job and make my transaction even slower? Am I supposed just just leave all items in the carts now? Why even have the conveyor belts on the checkout stands?

Really seems likely some focus on metrics or optics of productivity seems to be making everyone at Costco just grumpy these days.

Costco shopper going on 4 decades, and it just feels different recently. The pre-scanning added confusion to an already vague checkout process. Someone's still sitting on the "more" button asking for really fast checkouts it seems.

Appreciate the help today

Thanks for the support in taking the leap, today. My 6yo daughter saw me during the act and her little, overly honest opinion came out as "you look great". It was all I needed to know I made the right choice.

I'm not mad at the availability, but the placement alongside raises questions.

My sneaky trick to subtly get onions into everything

I use these a couple ways, either straight up added while cooking and it just kinda dissolves into it… or
Soak in water for 5 minutes to rehydrate, drain, and use basically like chopped onion. It does shockingly well to mimic fresh, when cooked.

Adam from Below Deck Med would be proud.

I've been finding good deals and promos on both DiGiorno and Freshetta pizzas at our grocers lately. I tend to buy the cheese variety and add our own toppings and a little extra cheese. Today was Freshetta with our own pepperoni, microwaved a little to pull out some of the grease and crisp them. Also a dusting of romano cheese and a pinch of king Arthur brand pizza seasoning.
