Bike related problem

Posting this here because it’s a bike related problem, bought this Hitch Bike rack from facebook marketplace ( Thule T2 Classic ) but didn’t have a pin so I bought one on Amazon but today when I was trying to attach it to my suv find out there’s something inside that doesn’t let me pass the new pin 😡 idk if that’s how come from factory or the previous owner weld it there. What can I do? I really want to put it on and take my bike far from DC to do some MTB trails. Should I look for some welder and remove it? Or buy a new pin that fits? I’m in Petworth neighborhood if any welder here can help. Thank you

Thanks to the Redditor for the tip on C&O Canal lock 21

I went on a 17 miles ride to C&O canal lock 21 (Swains Lock), I had a great time and added to one of my spots now.

To the lycra dorks on Beach Dr

I am fully prepared to get eviscerated for this post but I am so annoyed I don't even care. I took my daughter on Beach Drive today for the first time. She's 9 on a regular bike. The only bike I own is my cargo ebike, so I rode that behind and/or next to her as appropriate. I had my pedal assist on at the lowest level and, again, I was biking next to my 9 yr old so I didn't go faster than maybe 8 mph the entire time.

On TWO separate occasions, middle aged white men in head to toe spandex, cosplaying as Lance Armstrong came whipping by us at top speeds --WELL above what I was doing -- and yelled at me for having an ebike. The first one yelled "NO EBIKES" and the second one yelled "GET OFF THE ROAD". My daughter was already nervous about riding on Beach Drive for the first time and she got very shaken up and I had to spend half of what otherwise would have been a beautiful bike ride explaining to her that some people feel very entitled to their own opinions and are under the mistaken impression that any of us care what they think. In conclusion, get fucked.

ETA: I should add that the vast majority of people were LOVELY. The trickiest part for my daughter to learn was how to time passing people and biking assertively but not aggressively, and people were very kind to her even as she didn't always get it exactly right. So I'm happy to say she had a great time and feels really proud of herself, and seems to have forgotten all about the men who yelled at us.

ETA2: I am pleasantly surprised I have not gotten totally flamed here for riding an ebike on Beach Drive! I know it's a somewhat controversial activity. I always try to stay at my low power when I'm in pedestrian areas and bike how I'd want people to bike around me.

This week has been rough!

Well, the time has come to say goodbye.
After two amazing years, I’m officially parting ways with my GTI and closing a chapter that meant more to me than just owning a car.
Ever since I had my 2004 R32, owning another Volkswagen that made me smile every time I walked away from it was always a dream. This GTI brought that feeling back. From the first drive to every road trip, every wash, every random excuse to take it out for a spin, it became a part of my daily life and created memories I’ll never forget.
This community has been part of that journey. Whether it was sharing photos, getting advice, learning from other owners, or simply enjoying everyone’s passion for these cars, I’ve loved being here.
It’s bittersweet letting it go, but life moves forward and so do our automotive adventures. The next chapter will be a Tiguan R-Line, which fits where I’m at in life today, especially with my growing family. While it’s a different kind of Volkswagen, I’m excited to stay within the VW family and see what new memories it brings.
Thank you to everyone who shared this journey with me. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the GTI and for the days that started with “just a quick drive” and somehow turned into hours behind the wheel. I hope I’ll come back In a future 🤞🏽
Goodbye Wookie. You were everything I hoped for and more.
See you all on the road. ❤️

How’s riding in DC?

Recently after buying my MTB bike I’ve been thinking about ride from my house to work every day or at least 3 times per week (petworth neighborhood to National mall area) does someone here has the same route as an everyday commute? Kinda scared riding in the city since I only rode before on trails when I used to live in Arlington.
Definitely trying to avoid Georgia Ave and Massachusetts Ave

Tuneup required

Just got my first bike and I believe needs a tune up since was in storage for 5 years. Any affordable bike tune up In the petworth neighborhood.
(Time is very limited since I’m taking care of my 3 months old baby)
