New Morally Conservative Slate in Victoria.

Received this message via DM this afternoon. Posting in its entirety:

To whom it may concern,

I am writing this message as a whistle-blower to bring attention to a new slate that is getting organized in Victoria for the 2026 election. I was involved in the organization of this group in the early days, but I have become disillusioned with the overt racism and transphobia that I have witnessed. I got involved because I am skeptical of how development has happened in Victoria. I did not sign up for bigotry and hate.

The organizer of this slate is called Kimanda Jarzebiak. She is a longtime conservative community organizer. The members of the slate are Arthur McInnis, Wendy Bowkett, Karen Rothe, and Melissa Cseszko. Although they have not announced their slate yet, they are using identical brands on their websites for a reason.

They are also closely related to BC Politics Watch, a set of social media accounts that Arthur often supplies content to.

I have included several screenshots of racist and transphobic content that BC Politics Watch and Wendy have created.

The irony is that these people accuse others of a “lack of transparency and accountability,” and yet hide behind anonymous accounts.

The public, First Nations, and the local LGBTQ community should know that residential school deniers and bigots are getting organized in the local community.

Thank you,
Concerned Local Resident

City of Victoria Councillor Marg Gardiner has controversial motion defeated 7-1

Victoria council’s Committee of the Whole voted down a motion that would have asked Island Health to close the supervised consumption site at 941 Pandora Ave.

According to Councillor Matt Dell, council received roughly 450 letters supporting the site and about 20 opposing it ahead of the meeting.

The motion, brought forward by Councillor Marg Gardiner, argued the site has contributed to ongoing disorder and public safety concerns and called for a greater focus on treatment and recovery. A majority of councillors voted against it, including Councillors Chris Coleman and Stephen Hammond, who said closing the site without an alternative would likely increase harm rather than reduce it.

The motion ultimately failed, so the City will not be asking Island Health to close the supervised consumption site.

Goldstream Gazette: Colwood takes back control of form and character development permits

https://goldstreamgazette.com/2026/05/28/colwood-takes-back-control-of-form-and-character-development-permits/

Councilor Ian Ward said, “The goal here is to support increased council oversight and transparency, while ensuring fairness, predictability and objective rules.”

I agree those should be the goals. I’d argue that empowering staff to consistently apply the policies council has already adopted is one of the best ways to achieve fairness, predictability and objective rules.

Bringing larger development permits back to council increases council’s workload and creates more opportunities for organized opposition to delay projects, as we saw with Colwood Creek. And could result in staff being micromanaged. If the policies need to change, council can change them. Otherwise, staff should be empowered to administer them consistently.

Is Scott Perry Helping or Hurting Stew Young?

As expected in this election campaign, Scott Perry has emerged as one of Stew Young’s most visible online defenders. While he holds no official role, his constant defence of Young and attacks on Young’s critics have effectively made him an unofficial surrogate.

So far, Young’s campaign has largely centred on one message: lower taxes. But campaigns are judged by more than their platform. They’re also shaped by the people who become their public face online.

Perry’s public record includes being removed from a Langford council meeting, later being temporarily barred from attending council meetings in person, and publicly acknowledging that he was the individual who had been outside Councillor Keith Yacucha’s home taking photographs, an incident that prompted an RCMP investigation.

Given that history, does Perry’s combative online presence reinforce Young’s campaign, or does it make it harder for Young to present himself as someone who has listened, learned, and changed since 2022?

Curious to hear what others think.

Scott Perry is a potential Langford council candidate for 2026. Here is his FB page https://www.facebook.com/share/1BumkQnf1C/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Colwood Councilor Ian Ward feels “it’s unfortunate that’s we’ve gotten to a place where it’s adversarial”

https://goldstreamgazette.com/2026/06/26/disagreement-over-future-of-colwoods-stanley-park-derails-council-meeting/

It’s unfortunate we’ve gotten to a place where it’s become adversarial,’ says Coun. Ian Ward. Funny how that works. The political playbook that helped turn Langford council meetings into a regular spectacle has now made its way to Colwood. The man loves “Our Langford” but not on his turf.

Harbour Cats #AISLOP

Why are the Victoria HarbourCats using AI-generated slop for their promotional graphics? You can’t sell tickets to computers, so why replace the person who does this job? Hire a human to make your posters.
