Continuity is key for Colwood community-focused councillor re-election campaign

Colwood Coun. Ian Ward has unfinished business to attend to.

During his first term on council, Ward has played a role in delivering several key projects, including the municipal-run medical clinic and Quarry Park expansion, all while helping Colwood maintain one of the lowest cumulative tax increases in the Capital Regional District.

Website: Eugene Tseng for Colwood City Council 2026

Taken from ybc4bg.com

Eugene Tseng is running for Colwood City Council in 2026, and the needs of young people are at the heart of his campaign. His two young children are growing up in Colwood right now, so the future of the city's youth isn't an abstract issue for him — it's the reason he's running. Having made the choice with his wife to put down roots in Royal Bay, Eugene knows firsthand the challenges young families face in a fast-growing community.

As a public servant, Eugene knows how to work within government to create real, positive change — and how to turn good ideas into results people can actually feel. Through his board service with community non-profits, he has helped deliver services that matter deeply to young people and families, such as primary care; counselling and mental health support for children, youth, and families; and youth gang and exploitation prevention and intervention.

Eugene's campaign pillars respond to issues that directly shape the lives of young people and families. Sustainable growth means housing young families can actually afford, and parks, playgrounds, and green spaces that keep pace as Colwood grows. Services we can count on means expanded childcare, community health services, and transit that lets youth get to school, jobs, and activities independently and safely. A safe, connected community means expanded youth programming and community centres that give kids and teens welcoming places to gather.

Eugene believes a city that invests in its young people is investing in its own future — and he is running to make sure young families have a voice at the table.

Colwood sewer expansion proposal disappears down the drain

Without a mandate and concern for increasing staff workloads, at the May 25 meeting, council voted unanimously not to proceed with developing a draft sewer conversion program.

Coun. Dean Jantzen said he was reluctant to “upset the apple cart,” and suggested the city focus instead on demystifying the current process for residents to apply for sewer connection, which he said was unclear.

Overflowing Goldstream Park porta-potties are 'unacceptable', say campaigners

Concern has been raised about the upkeep of portable toilets at Goldstream Provincial Park.
For the hundreds of visitors who pass through the park’s day-use area each day, porta-potties have been available since mid-July while the washroom building remains temporarily closed.
Until recently, just two portable toilets were available, and regular weekly visitors say they have often been found in an unsatisfactory state.

More seeds to plant: Langford councillor seeks second term in fall election

When Langford Coun. Keith Yacucha reflects on his time at City Hall, he likens it to planting the seed of an oak tree.

“You will never be able to enjoy the shade of it, because by the time it grows to provide the shade, it’s providing it for the next generation,” he says.
That’s how Yacucha views much of the work he and council have undertaken over the past four years: laying the groundwork for Langford’s future through long-term planning.

AI tool-use among reasons for Colwood review of public participation rules

A generation of AI-assisted activists has emerged. What was once largely confined to Facebook is now influencing local government, where the volume of AI-generated correspondence is making it increasingly difficult for councils across the region to operate efficiently.

From Goldstream Gazette:

A report presented to council June 8 says reviewing and redacting submissions before attaching them to an agenda can have a significant impact on staff workloads. They say the advance in artificial intelligence tools has enabled “the generation of significantly longer, more complex written submissions.”

From farm to canvas: Artist’s horse dung Trump portrait causes stir in Sooke

Truly a piece of shit and deserving of this honour.

“U.S. President Donald Trump is causing a stink in Sooke.

A portrait of the polarizing political figure has become one of the biggest talking points at this year’s Sooke Fine Arts Show – not only because of its subject, but also the unconventional medium used to create it.
Its name, “The Don of Dung,” offers a clue to its ‘secret recipe’.”

1 term Colwood council member seeking re-election warns that electing “neophyte” candidates would struggle to handle the town’s challenges.

During his tenure, Ian Ward championed several initiatives, including the establishment of a new health clinic and active advocacy on various local issues. However, much of his work was overshadowed by controversy surrounding a Halloween costume in blackface and subsequent public apologies that fell short. His online presence also faced criticism for social media posts perceived as offensive toward Palestinians and Catholics, which have since been removed.

Recently, Ward’s focus has shifted to the neighbouring municipality of Langford and its council. When publicly criticized for this shift, he cited a period of strong collaboration between the two towns but provided no concrete examples of how him continually criticizing the neighbouring municipality is equal to two mayors teaming up to draft a new OCP for their communities.
