Does anyone know if Ryukishi07's Q&A at Pyrkon 2026 was recorded?

I was wondering if Ryukishi07's Pyrkon 2026 Q&A was recorded, either by someone in the audience or officially by Pyrkon itself.

I'd love to watch the full panel, but I haven't been able to find a recording anywhere. If anyone knows whether it was filmed—or where it might be available—I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks! 🦋

Ryukishi07's newest work isn't a visual novel—it's a Cthulhu TRPG! 🐙📖

One of Ryukishi07's latest projects is an official Cthulhu Mythos TRPG scenario titled "When the Beasts Howl in the Cave" (Kedamono Muro ni Hoyuru Koro ni)

Rather than a visual novel, this is a tabletop role-playing game scenario written for the Japanese New Cthulhu Mythos TRPG system. It was released on May 8, 2025.

The story follows a group of investigators who travel to a remote mountain village to secretly protect a friend's younger sister during a summer camp. As expected from both Ryukishi07 and the Cthulhu Mythos, the peaceful setting soon descends into mystery, psychological horror, and the unknown.

Considering Ryukishi07's talent for suspense, human drama, and unsettling horror, the Cthulhu Mythos feels like a perfect match for his writing.

It's on sale now in japanese:

My interpretation of Haworthia

  1. The Dying Earth as a Mirror of Humanity On the surface, the story concerns an Earth that has become practically uninhabitable. Humans have largely fled into space and created the Organic Automata to save the planet. In Ciconia all of humanity stands on the brink of self-annihilation. In Haworthia the world is already lost. The story no longer asks, "Can humanity save itself?" but rather, "What remains of humanity?"

  2. Organic Automata The Organic Automata were created to repair the Earth. Yet, they evolve. They clone themselves. They alter their environment. They begin to implement their own definition of "life." If a created being becomes more intelligent than its creator, who then has the right to decide the future of the world? This brings to mind Bernkastel’s statement in Umineko that truth always depends on perspective. To humans, the Organic Automata are not saving the Earth. To the Organic Automata, they be saving the Earth precisely by replacing humanity.

  3. The Haworthia Plant The title was likely not chosen at random. A Haworthia is a small succulent. It survives under extremely harsh conditions, with very little water and with little light. It appears almost immortal. This fits the story perfectly. Even as humanity fades away, life persists. Perhaps in a different form. Perhaps in an alien one. But life never completely disappears.

  4. Connection to Ciconia Many concepts reappear later in Ciconia: artificial evolution transhumanism global politics the question of what it actually means to be "human" beings whose abilities far surpass those of humans That is why many fans view Haworthia as a prologue or a philosophical prototype for Ciconia. I also heard Ryukishi has confirmed that Haworthia was created to test concepts for Ciconia.

  5. Connection to Higurashi and Umineko Interestingly, with Ryukishi, only the scale changes. Higurashi: Saving a village. Umineko: Saving a family and their truth. Ciconia/Haworthia: Saving an entire species. The fundamental question always remains the same: Can humans overcome their mistakes? Or will they create the same tragedies over and over again?

My Interpretation I believe Haworthia is a story about evolution. Not biological evolution. But the evolution of civilizations. Humans believe they are creating tools. Yet, at some point, they create their successors. Then, the uncomfortable question arises: Is humanity the pinnacle of evolution or merely an intermediate stage? Ryukishis storys are most about how humans themselves are the cause of their tragedies and must decide whether they can break that cycle.

This also made me wonder about Ciconia's Eight Million System (8MS). Since Haworthia depicts a world where Earth is devastated and humanity has largely disappeared, could it represent the aftermath of one possible 8MS? I'm not saying they're canonically connected—Ryukishi has never confirmed that—but the thematic similarities are hard to ignore. In Haworthia they saying that the AI predicted that the Earth will be destroyed. It seems that the 8MS and the Organic Automata are in their core the same. It also seems to question whether the Organic Automata are actually the solution.

Ryukishi has always asked how humanity can break its cycles. Haworthia made me wonder what happens if it never does.

A new Serial Experiments Lain anime has been announced!

A new fanmade Serial Experiments Lain anime project has officially been announced. After nearly three decades, we're finally getting new animation related to one of the most influential psychological/cyberpunk anime ever made.

The post says its not a sequel but another possibility.

I'm really curious to see what direction they'll take and whether it can capture the same surreal, unsettling atmosphere that made the original so unforgettable.

Did you already know about it? I think it looks pretty good

Pikopuyos shop reopened

If you've been thinking about picking up some merch from Pikopuyo, it's best not to wait too long. The Shop is open now!

Since Pikopuyo is an independent fan merch shop, the store often opens for limited periods, and many items are only available while the shop is open. Once sales close, you'll usually have to wait until the next opening—and there's no guarantee that every design will return.

Happy 15th Anniversary to Rewrite!

Two days ago was the 15th anniversary of Rewrite!

While Rewrite was developed by Key, many people don't realize that Ryukishi07 was one of the scenario writers. He was responsible for Lucia Konohana's route, which is often praised for its psychological drama, emotional storytelling, and mystery—elements that fans of Ryukishi07 will immediately recognize.

It's always fascinating to see how his writing style shines through even in a collaborative project. Lucia's route feels distinctly "Ryukishi" in the way it explores trust, isolation, and human relationships.

If you're a fan of Ryukishi07 but haven't played Rewrite yet, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. It's interesting to see how his storytelling blends with Key's style.

Happy 15th Anniversary, Rewrite! 🍃

Have you played Rewrite?

Old news by now, but... I'm still so excited about the new Higurashi anime!

I know pretty much everyone has already heard the announcement, but I still wanted to make a post about it because I honestly can't stop thinking about it.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original 2006 anime, a brand-new Higurashi TV anime has officially been announced. Studio DEEN is returning to animate the project, and the original main voice cast is also coming back. At the moment, we still don't know exactly what the story will be or when it will air, but we did get a teaser trailer and visual.

As someone who absolutely loves Ryukishi07's works, this announcement made me incredibly happy. Whether it's a new adaptation, an original story, or something completely unexpected, I'm just excited to return to Hinamizawa once again.

I'm really hoping this anime captures the atmosphere and psychological horror that made me fall in love with Higurashi in the first place.

What are your hopes for the new anime?

A faithful adaptation?

A brand-new story?

An adaptation of another Higurashi arc?

Or something completely different?

Welcome back to Hinamizawa. 🩸

Silent Hill f receives a free Fatal Frame II crossover outfit!

Konami has just released a free crossover costume for Silent Hill f!

Hinako can now wear Mio Amakura's iconic outfit from Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. The costume is available for free as part of the latest update and can be equipped in-game at a Hokora after installing Patch 1.20 or later. It's a cosmetic addition only, with no gameplay or story changes.

This crossover comes full circle, since Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake previously received a Silent Hill f collaboration that let players dress Mio in Hinako's school uniform and fox mask.

As a Ryukishi07 fan, I absolutely love seeing one of his games collaborating with another legendary Japanese horror series. It feels like a perfect match considering how atmospheric and psychological both franchises are.

What do you think about this crossover?

New limited Merch

For anyone visiting Shirakawa-go (the real-life Hinamizawa), there's some brand-new limited acrylic keychain merch available!

The characters are illustrated in Ryukishi07's own art style, which makes these especially unique compared to most Higurashi merchandise.

As far as I know, these keychains are exclusive to Shirakawa-go, so they make for a really special souvenir if you're lucky enough to visit.

Just finished Iwaihime (currently reading the Extra Arc) – here are my thoughts!

I finally finished Iwaihime and I'm currently reading the Extra Arc.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The psychological horror was definitely the highlight for me. Ryukishi07 does an amazing job building tension and making you feel genuinely uncomfortable, and at times it reminded me of Higurashi and Ookami Kakushi. Some scenes were incredibly disturbing in the best possible way.

That said, I also have a few criticisms.

For me, the story felt a bit rushed towards the end. I was expecting more time to explore the aftermath, but instead it felt like everything wrapped up very quickly, almost as if something was missing.

Another thing I wasn't a huge fan of was how the protagonist ends up being the center of attention for all of the girls. Even after they're freed from the curse, they still seem overwhelmingly focused on him. Personally, I would have preferred if they had more independence and development outside of their relationship with the protagonist.

Despite those issues, I still think Iwaihime is a very solid visual novel. The horror atmosphere, mystery, and psychological elements were fantastic, and I'd definitely recommend it to any Ryukishi07 fan.

I'd probably give it around an 7/10.

What did you all think? Did the ending feel rushed to you as well, or am I the only one who felt that way?
