Fixture model in manufacturing setup

I'm using Fusion 360 free edition to do some 3-axis milling on a Tormach 770.

I've imported a model of the vise I'm using with the intent of using the "Fixture" selection in the Setup tab to tell Fusion 360 not to generate toolpaths into the vise.

I click "New Setup," and on the first tab, under 'Fixture,' I can select the model of the vise and it recognizes the vise. I give it a radial and axial clearance of .005". So far, so good.

The issue I have is when generating a 3D Adaptive toolpath: I'm assuming the adaptive toolpath inherits the model of the vise automatically (this is, as I understand it, the point of identifying the fixturing), but then refuses to generate a toolpath.

There is plenty of clearnace between the bottom of the part model and the top of the vise, so I'm unsure why Fusion refuses to generate any toolpaths. I know this is the issue because when I deselect the fixturing model in Setup, the 3D adaptive toolpath generates normally without any further alterations to the toolpath settings.

What is going on? Is there some weird interaction between the designation of the fixturing in Setup and the 3D toolpaths?

Bulleting help

I'm keeping track of characters in my story using bullet points: high level is the name, then subordinate bullet points are characteristics, history, etc, all things related to that character and thus, should be indented under the name.

Problem is, hitting 'tab' does not indent and select a new bullet type. It only cycles through the bullet types on the same level of indentation. How do I change this behavior with a minimum of fuss?

file format is .odt

Endmill set recommendations?

Looking to pick up a basic set of inch flat end mills for use at my local maker space. They have a Tormach 770 there and I'm expecting to be mostly cutting softer metals like aluminum and brass. I'm specifically looking for a set rather than buying endmills separately. I'm not looking to do production work or any kind of high speed milling, just a generalized array of sizes that will suit most projects.

Carbide would be nice, but I think HSS is probably serviceable for use on aluminum. I'd like to keep the price sub-300$ if possible, though this will be a bit of an investment for future hobbies. I see that McMaster has a set, as does MSC, wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience with other brands. Other input is welcome, and thanks in advance!

(Bonus points if you can also recommend a set of ball nose end mills)

Hobbyist bandsaw?

Slightly CNC-adjacent, but does anyone have thoughts on a good horizontal band saw for light use in a maker space with a small CNC? I think such a saw is a great companion for CNC since it allows you to easily chop up bar stock into easier-to-handle parts.

Looking for something that:

  • Can handle steels and aluminum
  • Small foot print (space is a premium)
  • Commonly-available blade replacements

Bonus points:

  • Something that can be wheeled around and put out of the way when not in use
  • Won't break the bank (sub-$500 options?)

Harbor Freight obviously has something that would work, but I wanted to hear about possible other options. Thanks in advance!

Can't move commander at skirmish start

I'm sure this has an obvious answer but I cannot, for the life of me, figure it out.

I start a skirmish between myself and some AI. I use the boxes to define starting area. Game starts, I click inside the green zone to deploy my commander. Commander appears, but I cannot issue any orders whatsoever. No building, no moving, nothing.

What gives?

Edited to add:

Yes, I'm clicking on him like I would any other unit. At the start of the skirmish, I'm instructed to pick a location for the Commander to spawn into, and hit "Start." He zaps in like any other game, but then refuses to move.

This persists across multiple launches of the skirmish. I think it has something to do with where the starting areas are or something, I don't know. There are no errors or indications that something's wrong. No warnings, no voice, nothing.

Wristwatch project - beginner help

I'm looking to build a wristwatch. The obvious answer is something like "use an Arduino," but I am challenging myself to make something more compact than that: one main reason I hate smartwatches is just how chunky they are. Ideally, I want the entire finished watch to be no more than 40mm in diameter and no more than 15mm thick, ideally less. I think this rules out a lot of the basic beginner projects (though I may still do those for the experience).

I am also only looking to have the following features: current time (including date data), secondary time, alarm, countdown timer, stopwatch. I am specifically not looking to have any kind of wireless capability, or any other sensors for heart rate or temperature, etc. I am looking to use a screen to display the information.

My limited research tells me there are things called RTCs, which use something like a DS3231 to output a signal an IC can translate into something intelligible by humans. The issue with these are they aren't meant to fit anywhere small or tight, which means I either need to find one that suits my size constraints or make my own. This DS3231 isn't the only chip of it's kind on the market, as well: the MAX31329, PCF2131, and PCA8525 all came up as well and all seem to be generally be trying to do the same thing. Is this sort of chip appropriate for this project or are there other alternatives I ought to be considering?

It seems like the answer here, especially given the size constraints, is to build my own board (which looks... complicated but doable) in order to fit all the connectors and parts I need. I think most of my confusion/hesitation is just not knowing what parts are involved since everything seems to be based off Arduino chips which seem like they'd be overkill for this project? Maybe the ease of use and documentation offset this? Is there some other option that fits my design goals? Where do you even go to look for this sort of thing? Like, I know what I want to do (as listed above), but I'm not even sure where to look to source parts that would be appropriate for this project.

I've been lookng at Phil's Lab for tutorials on this sort of thing (and it looks like there are some great options!) but I'm interested to hear if there are any other resources I might consider.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, recommendations, or input!

Smallest RLCD?

How small do these screens get? They seem more aimed at tablet/monitor replacement and as a result, tend to be large. I'm wondering if there are smaller versions of these screens for other applications, in perhaps the 1-2" range?

Question re Tyranid life cycle

From what I've read, it would appear that the Norn-queen is solely responsible for producing new Tyranids? That is, there is a single type of creature from which all bioforms are produced? Even if there are multiple Norn-queens in a fleet, they're the only ones doing the egg-laying? (something something, all your eggs in one basket)

And it's just egg-laying? Setting aside genestealer cults, do Tyranids only come from eggs?

Is the Norn-queen also responsible for synaptically controlling the Tyranid forces? Or is that the purview of another bioform?

Context: writing a story and want to know just how much is established canon and how much I can deviate from it. Thanks in advance!
