Highlighter progress. I clearly have a favourite

  • Product: Huda Beauty Glow Obsessions in Medium Glow
  • Jul 2026 vs 2024

This is the only highlighter palette I own. I've received compliments from people a few times when I used it. I find the colours pop on the skin better when I use my finger instead of a brush so I absolutely love this shade.

But I think it's time to start working on the other shades..

Teaching online while going to Bali for a month?

I heard there are new rules about visas and working in Bali but they were aimed at influencers. What if I'm only visiting for a month and want to teach online for a few days in the evenings while I'm there? Has anyone else done this while travelling there? The amount of cash is like pocket change as I do it as a little side hustle.

Bringing a portable door lock and door alarm - layover in China

I'm a solo female traveller who is quite petite so I like to take extra safety precautions. I've had two transits in China and I've seen how strict they are with security. I really want to bring a door alarm and door lock with me as I'll be going abroad for a much longer time.

I was wondering whether I should pack these things in my carry on or checked luggage. I don't want them thinking my door lock a weapon and taking it away. Last time, my rape alarm got confiscated at security in China so I'm not sure if my portable door alarm (without batteries inside) will be ok as they may think it makes noise..

But I've also had Air china lose/keep my checked luggage behind so not sure if it will be held back because of these things.

Can you block a student mid trial?

How would you go about blocking a student in the middle of a trial that is 50 minutes long? For example, if the student was making rude comments about your personal life and you also realised you wouldn't be a good fit teaching-wise. Do you just tolerate the 50 mins and wait until the end to tell them that you aren't the right fit then block? Or would you just cut the trial short?

Have you ever had to leave a trial mid lesson? How did it go?

60+30 days visa extension in October-Dec? UK passport

I'll be entering in October from my Indonesia trip so I've still got a while to go. The uncertainty is making things a bit worrying since Thailand announced they'll change the visa-free entry rules from 60 days to 30 on some unknown date in the future. I plan to stay from October to December and have booked refundable accommodation for the whole trip.

I would ideally need to know by October for free cancellation for my December accommodation.. I know everything is still uncertain but I really wanted to spend the end of the year in Thailand with my friend. I'm still flexible with changing things around and could go to a nearby country instead after 60 days. Extra info: I stayed in Thailand for 1 month at the start of this year (not sure if this will affect my visa extension chances)

  1. Can UK passport holders apply for a tourist visa online to guarantee the 60 days on arrival? All advice online says I don't need to get one because UK holders enter 60 days free but if the visa rules change, this would mean I have to extend while there so this saves the time and headache.
  2. How likely is it the rules will change during this time October-December? Heard it's more likely to change after the end of this year if they do go ahead with it.
  3. What would you recommend in this situation?

Packing clothes when going to a hot country but returning in winter?

I live in the UK and will be leaving in September to go to Thailand and Indonesia where it will be quite hot so I only want to pack light clothes for a hot climate and maybe a hoodie for cooler evenings. When I return to the UK, it will be December and freezing cold. I'll be travelling for 4 months so don't want to be lugging a big coat around, even if it's going to be in my checked luggage.

I don't know whether to take a coat with me or to buy one there before I return? What do people do in this situation?

Preply not accepting my passport as id for application "place of origin"

They asked for passport id to verify my place of birth so I provided it but then said it doesn't say place of birth. I was born and raised in the UK so am a bit confused. It's the first time a company has performed such a strict check.

I have a birth certificate I could send. Would it be safe to send this over? I already sent them my passport copy and we've been communicating through email..

1 month solo in Bali plan

I will be spending a month in Bali soon. I don’t want to be rushing around trying to see everything with my luggage so I’m planning to stay in a few places a bit longer.

I like nature, snorkelling, chilling on the beach, nice cafes, good food, photography. Not into surfing, diving, partying or drinking (but may go out to bars/beach clubs to check out night life)

I work remotely so will be spending time working. One thing I’m worried about is bringing my MacBook along, especially since I rarely travel with it. This time as I'll be away for several months I have no choice but to bring it. Some of the places I'm staying won't have a safe/lock box so I'm debating whether to buy a cheaper laptop or just bring my macbook along, lock it in my luggage and hope for the best. I already booked some guesthouses in Ubud and Canggu to get a bit of a local experience with a Balinese family. I won't be staying in any hostels.

This is my plan so far- please give me some advice. I’ve been Thailand a few times so am a little familiar with SE Asian countries. I plan to eat at local warungs to stretch my budget. Relying on gojek/grab app to get around as I won't be renting a scooter. Meeting up with fellow solo women travellers from apps/fb groups.

Canggu (4 nights) - La Brisa, cafes and good food, markets, beach clubs

Ubud (7 nights) - Campuhan Ridge Walk, Ubud Markets, Rice fields, waterfalls, yoga

Gili islands (maybe 4-5 nights?) - beach clubs, water sports, turtle snorkelling, open air cinema

Sanur (7 nights) - just to chill / get some down time or work done.

Uluwatu (5 nights) - beaches, cliff restaurants/cafes, close to airport before flying out to Thailand

Questions:

  1. Ubud waterfalls - would it be best to book a guide online or make friends and hire a private driver? Feel it will be crowded so appreciate any advice on which ones are worth it.
  2. Is Kintamani worth going on a day tour? I found this
  3. Should I stay in Gili T or Gili Air and for how long? Leaning towards the latter.
  4. How safe did you feel there as a solo woman? I heard there are aggressive stray dogs that come out at night so don't want to stay out too late.

I'm a female solo traveller in my late 20s. Need to get some opinions on my 2-3 week trip to Bali in September. This will be my 6th country solo and I'm so excited to explore a new country. First, I won't be renting any scooters and instead rely on Gojek/Grab, which I know may limit the places I can go but I'd rather be safe. I want to have a balance of relaxing days chilling by the sea or do some yoga but also check out some nice bars/see the nightlife and meet other solo travellers (I will be using some travel apps and fb groups for this too).

Still deciding whether to add these places: Canggu - heard it's very congested and to avoid it but I wanted to check out some of the nightlife before leaving Bali. Uluwatu - since I don't wanna be rushing around & I don't surf but heard the beaches are nice. Mt Bator- would like to see this during the day time and I wanna go to a nice cafe/restaurant nearby (El lago or Akasa so may do a tour for this.)

Airport -> Ubud (4-5 nights) Tegallalang rice fields, Monkey Forest**,** yoga, waterfall tours (Tukad Cepung and Kanto Lampo are high on my list**)**, cafes, Ubud market

Ubud -> Gili islands (4-5 nights) beaches, snorkelling with turtles, SUP. Unsure whether to stay in Gili T (more things to do, meet others) or Gili Air (more chill and quiet which I like)

Gili Islands -> Canggu or Seminyak (?) (4 nights) -> Fly to Bangkok

Questions:

  1. Which area in/near Canggu should I stay in to check out some nice cafes/food and bars to meet people?
  2. Should I stay in Gili T or Gili Air (I'm not going to be partying every day but would not like to be listening to music all night while trying to sleep)
  3. Is my route okay or is there a better way around Bali?
  4. Any other must-see places/tips I should know before going?

Thank you
