First OSL Attempt: Looking For Feedback

Just finished this mini and I'm really happy with the result! I know there's a lot that could be improved, but my eye isn't developed to say exactly how to improve from here. So any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Looking For Musicians and Vocalists for Original Opera Production

My name is James Naprawa and I'm looking for musicians to fill out the ensemble for an opera production! We just had a recorded rehearsal with our core players, but ideally we'd like a fuller sound and (of course) we also need vocalists! A lot of them!

We're currently looking for:

-Violins
-Violas
-Cellos

-Soprano Lead
-Mezzo Lead
-Minor Tenor Leads (3 parts available)
-Bass Baritone Lead
-Ensemble voices of any kind

For the time being, this is a volunteer project. Food and beverage are provided by me for rehearsals as well as gas money if you have a long commute. Rehearsals will most likely take place in Seattle or Tacoma and will start once the full cast list has been filled.

I'm going to be applying for grants next year, as well as likely starting a GoFundMe campaign to secure some funding to be able to pay everyone at some point. The plan is to culminate in a live performance of the first act of the opera which will be a ticketed event. All revenue will go to paying performers. So payment is in the cards eventually if the project can get off the ground.

For all inquiries, please leave a comment or send me a DM!

The Squirrels In My Neighborhood Are DEEPLY Uncool, So I Built A Playpen For My More Vulnerable Trees

Good luck chewing any branches off of these guys ever again, dirty rodents!

Don't Give Up on Your Air Layers

Separated all of these guys way too early (first air layer attempts), and I was so disheartened to not see any roots that they all briefly went into the compost bin. A bit later I decided to rescue them and pot them up, because what did I have to lose?

Well, exactly one month later and today I noticed the middle guy was growing roots out of the bottom of his pot! So I just slipped him up a size. The one on the right doesn't look so hot, but I've accidentally uncovered some very vigorous root growth while watering a few times. No idea how the one on the left is doing, but hopefully at least as well as the others.

Looking For a Violin Player For a New Opera

Reaching out here to see if anyone might be interested in helping me to perform an original opera that I've been working on.

The opera is written for a small string section (two violins, viola, cello, bass), piano, and vocalists. Unfortunately, my violin 2 has a lot of scheduling conflicts at the moment, so I need to find a replacement.

So far we've had four rehearsals with just the instrumentalists, and are looking to do a couple more rehearsals before recording a demo of the instrumental for Act 1, which I can then use to hopefully lure in some vocalists.

The timeline for this project is (ideally) as follows:

Summer 2026: Rehearse with orchestra players/learn the material.

Fall 2026: Record a demo without vocalists.

Winter 2027: Assemble the full cast for Act 1

Spring 2027: Rehearse with full cast

Summer 2027: Perform/record a ticketed show of Act 1.

Right now we're rehearsing in Tacoma, but have a rehearsal space available in Seattle as well. I few connections to churches in the Tacoma area to record in, but that isn't set in stone yet.

The material is fairly advanced, and you would most likely have just a couple of rehearsals to get to know it, so previous performance experience is required.

Finally, this is a paid opportunity! I don't have a massive budget as this is mostly a passion project, but I'd like to try my best to make it worth your time. Despite the very long timeline, you'll be under no obligation to stay attached to the project after we record the demo (unless you'd like to, of course). I'm mostly trying to tackle this project one step at a time.

Thanks for reading! Please DM me with any questions you might have

Natural Variation or Rootstock Takeover

We've had this Ukigumo for a few months now. I'm excited that it's putting out a bunch of new growth and back-budding, but this branch has me scratching my head a bit. This whole thing grew out in just about a month, and the leaves are humongous and not particularly variegated. I've heard that sometimes on grafted trees it's possible that the root stock can sometimes send new growth up through the scion, but I have no idea if that's what's happening and I should prune this branch back or just leave it be.

Check out the first single from my upcoming album, "Another"

Finally getting close to the finish line of this passion project that I've been working on over the last two years. Features a ton of local talent from Olympia/Tacoma/Seattle! If you're a fan of power metal, give it a listen!

Album artwork is also completely hand made by myself, my wife, my sister-in-law, and the cellist from the album.

Wildlife Advice Needed!

We have some Dark-Eyed Junkos nesting along the side of our rental. This isn't a problem in and of itself, but the rental company has scheduled exterior paint on the house this upcoming Monday. My wife and I are worried about these babies. I doubt that the rental company will be willing to reschedule for them, and I'm very concerned that even if the house painters are very careful, the best is just too close to the house for them to be safe.

So looking for some advice as to what we can do to keep these little fellas safe and healthy!

Looking For Opinions

Picked up this ukigumo at my local nursery this week. It had so much character, I bought it on the spot. Just slip potted it into this tower today and I'm looking for some tips/advice.

I like to try and bonsai this tree a little bit, keeping it pretty much the exact size, but styling it and encouraging more ramification and more/smaller leaves if possible. I'll most likely let it get used to it's new home this season and wait to do anything significant until I'm certain it's adapting well. But I'd love to have a game plan of what to do and when best to do it, as well as general styling advice!

Thanks!

Little Hinoki seems very rootbound. Should I root prune/repot?

Just got this little guy over the weekend. My main goal at the moment is to get him to grow big and strong before I attempt any styling or training. I'm a complete beginner to this though, and wanted to check with those who have more experience if it's a good idea to do it asap or wait.

For context, I'm in the PNW, zone 8. We're getting pretty good sun this time of year, but temps aren't getting too much higher than mid 70 yet.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everybody. I built this grixis Bar Cube a little while ago and it's been a blast to play with. That being said, I'm looking for ways to power it up a little more specifically red, as I feel that might be the weakest color in isolation.

The rules for this bar Cube are:

- no outside game pieces (dice, tokens, etc.)
- no double sided cards.

I'd love some recommendations for spicy/powerful cards that might make for good inclusions!
