The author's note in Swordheart admits there was minimal editing. The series is infamous for minimal editing and not having as high of standards as older tradpubs.

These are BookTok hit known to come off as irritating, cringe characters and weak writing quality. The main relationships are straight presenting.

They are mild spice and not set in the modern world.

What is This Called and How Do I Find More?

Noir? Hardboiled? Subgenre? Trope?

I don't have much experience with it yet: "The Expanse" and "Altered Carbon" shows, to an extent "Diarra from Detroit", and Jeff Noon's "A Man of Shadows".

The detective does not really realize they are going crazy. Sort of a psychological thriller, except the reader knows the truth or can at least figure out how the MC is increasingly unreliable.

There's also usually a girl. She *seems* helpless and the detective absolutely spirals trying to "save" her.

UPDATE: Apparently I have just discovered (neo) noir lol

I like wit and main characters who do not feel mean or narcissistic if anyone is willing to give more recommendations

A sort of dark humor concerning "masculinity", where the author is self aware but the detective may not be

SFF or Fiction Books

Written by a tribal member

MCs are not poor nor do they have PTSD

ls there an Indigenous Wakanda?

It's sole focus is not on being Native, it is not an educational book for outsiders but a character getting to live fully beyond only this identity (so it's not erased either). Sort of Native-normative, if that makes sense?

for the love of all that is good in this world, no cowboys please

im tired of trying to explain this to white readers

im looking for a fantasy (or plain fiction) book that is not overtly about today's real world problems. i want escapist fantasy, like a step or two above cozy or just shy of dark

WARNING: I AM A LEFTIST.

to borrow more eloquent posters' words below: the personal is political. i simply want stories of minoritized peoples to be told in ways that don’t center their minoritization. i want to enjoy a story the way mediocre white boys get to enjoy their fluffy, useless stories. i want joy.

Books that:

mc in their 30s or 40s

written by a woman or enby

yes, ofc all books r political but some r much more in ur face about their intent. like, i do not need a diverse pov constantly explained to me throughout the book like im a toddler. i do not need very real, real world probs screamed at me like im hearing them for the first time. i should know what it would preach if it were preaching at me. something where asians (or other minorities) r normal, without needing to b explained into existence. at the same time, backgrounds n identities r not completely erased, like a Netflix movie. so, kind of the opposite of "Iron Widow" but agrees with those values.

tl;dr: where r the aapi books written for aapi readers?
