Pruning my Serviceberry to grow as a tree

Hi all - apologies if this isn’t the right sub. I had an Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry planted last year and have been mostly letting it grow wild. I did some light pruning on low growth this morning and feel unsure of what to chop to encourage it to grow as a 2-3 stem tree. Any advice would be much appreciated

I literally cannot stop eating in the middle of the night

This is something that has been a mild issue for years, but it really ramped up when I was in treatment for substance abuse six years ago. At the time, I was prescribed Seroquel for sleep and it made me RAVENOUSLY hungry. I’d wake up in the middle of the night and head to the kitchen to snack on whatever I could get my hands on.

Now, it’s been years since I’ve been off Seroquel and my nighttime eating is worse than it’s ever been. I’m entirely conscious while doing it - but it feels like I have no control over stopping it. For a while my wife was hiding all of the snacks before bed and I’d open cabinets and other hiding places until I found them. Now we literally have a safe in the kitchen and a bike lock on the snack cabinet and I still find ways to find things to eat.

We’ve experimented with not keeping snacks in the house and I’ll still eat plain bread or yogurt. One time I ate a frozen hamburger bun because I didn’t want to use the microwave and wake up my wife. I’ve even eaten snacks out my wife’s work bag that were intended for her to bring to work the next day, which made me feel like an entire piece of shit.

The interesting thing is it doesn’t feel like a hunger cue that’s driving the behavior. It feels more like a search for a dopamine hit. Since getting sober, the available methods for punching my dopamine ticket have decreased drastically, and I wonder how much that is driving the behavior.

I saw a nutritionist and dietician for a while with the hope of curbing the behavior, but it was very little help. I also tried Naltrexone to help with the cravings, also to no avail.

Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and if they’ve been able to overcome it. Unfortunately self control alone is yielding the same outcome over and over again. I can tell my wife is growing more and more frustrated with the behavior, and I’m tired of derailing my health and fitness goals for pleasure seeking.

Planning on repotting her, but not sure what else to do

Do I need to consider chopping or staking and/or moving in front of the window? She used to be so happy but has recently started browning on some of the leaves

Question about transposing songs from standard tuning

Hi all - I just got my first baritone guitar (Reverend Descent) after playing guitar for 20+ years. I’m realizing it’s definitely going to take some getting used to, but had a question as I’m relearning some of my band’s songs.

Most of the songs I’m wanting to play on the baritone were written in standard tuning. If I’m playing my Reverend in B Standard (B-E-A-D-F#-B), is it more advantageous to either use a capo on the 5th fret (or shift everything up 5 frets) OR to shift everything up one string and add the low B when it makes sense?

Since we play heavier post-hardcore music, I imagine the latter would make more sense, but altering some of my chord shapes for the F# instead of a G is proving to be tricky.

ISO vocalist for post-hardcore band

My band has been playing together for a few years - our style is a combo of shoegaze / post hardcore / emo. After going through some recent lineup changes, we’re looking to add a vocalist. We have the vision of a female vocalist, but are open to trying anyone out.

Some of our inspirations include title fight, drug church, this will destroy you, and so I watch you from afar, snooze, free throw, the hotelier, sweet pill, movements, basement, fleshwater, etc.

We’re all between our late 20s — early 30s and practice once a week near Asheville. Looking to play gigs again this summer and eventually record the new tunes we’ve been working on.

Happy to share a few demos if you think you might be a good fit
