New (to me) Guitar Day, an RGIB21, my first baritone and third Ibanez and I love it!
She sounds beautiful and I got her for a steal.

She sounds beautiful and I got her for a steal.
Bought originally off of reverb as a b-stock guitar so saved some change on it (couldn’t identify any blemishes whatsoever). Always wanted to do something like this so figured it would be a perfect time! Tried to save some money and sourced some used parts and others new. Parts I used:
WD 27 inch scale neck- new
Fender locking tuners-used (reverb, good deal!)
Graphtech nut- new
Graphtech saddles-new
Seymour Duncan JB- used (again, reverb and great deal!)
Strings- Dunlop baritone set 14-68
Tuning- Drop A
Control set up- Volume only
Next step is buying some nylon locking plugs to plug the exposed & empty control cavities!
I've routed the pickup cavity to make space for a j mascis pickup set. the spacing is as close to a jazzmaster as possible.
new custom pickguard was hand cut. it kind of combines the lower half of the original with a more true to form top horn.
Also moved the neck more into the neck pocket because it had a plastic shim. removed it. plugged the holes, redrilled the neck holes.
The intonation is fine, still have about 2mm of adjustment on the low E with a daddatio baritone set.
the fretwork is really good. the only thing that bothers me is the neck dive of this guitar. really light body.
I fell in love with the look on this Schecter PT EX Baritone, but i would appreciate a feedback of someone who has tried it before i butcher my finances 😅
currently building a jazzmaster baritone, it has a 27 inch neck and im hoping to use it around drop a/b standard. what gauge strings should i start with? Also should i keep the standard squier bridge saddles? or change them out for fender ones i have laying around? (pics for reference)
Bought and sold a lot of gear in the past 30 years, but this one has been with me for nearly 20 of those since new. Just love it every time I pick it up - composite nut, locking tuners, JB/Jazz, B standard now experimenting with EXL148’s (goodbye drop A)
After getting some support for a review of my Baritone, here it is:
Specs:
The Jet JJ350 Baritone features a Poplar Body, a Canadian Roasted Maple modern C shape neck, with a 9.5" radius.
There is also a Bone, or Polymer Fibre Nut, which is a fantastic addition. The chrome machine heads fit the vibe of the Guitar well.
27" Scale, so this Guitar will be tuned a 5th lower, from E A D G B e, to B E A D F# b.
Other features include 22 frets. 1 Master Volume, 1 Master Tone. 3 way Selector Switch. Bridge Humbucker, Neck P90. A weird combination, but it's certainly better than just 2 P90s. The Humbucker is not equipped for Coil Split. This is strange, because Baritone Electric Guitars started life with Single Coils, most notably from the Danelectros.
It has a Jazzmaster Shape body, which gives it the old Squier Paranormal Jazzmaster Baritone vibe.
I absolutely adore the Moonburst finish. It complements the Chrome hardware superbly. The Black pickguard, at least to me, feels a touch out of place. I would've liked to see an option for a Tortoise pickguard, but this should be a simple mod job.
Who is it for?
The Jet JJ350 Baritone doesn't really have a set genre attached to it. Yes it takes Metal like a champ, but also cleaner music.
Tonal review:
Clean: The Humbucker sounds incredibly articulate. You can pick out each note in the chord with ease. As soon as you engage the P90 however, you do get the 60 cycle hum. It is more noticeable when the Humbucker is not engaged.
With HX Effects: Both pickups take Overdrive well. A wash of Delay and Reverb just adds to it. With Drives, Distortion and Fuzz, the P90 does sound muddy. This is not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of.
Cost:
The Jet JJ350 Baritone costs £339, though you can get it from Jet themselves for €415.
Do I think it's worth the money? Absolutely! The Squiers have jumped up in value considerably. This is a great way to get similar vibe for less.
If I was given this Guitar for a Worship set, would I be happy using it? Completely, as long as the key for each song is B. Otherwise, the Guitar would be better replaced by either a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazzmaster, or a Fender Standard Telecaster.
Pros:
1: I'm a fan of burst finishes on Guitars. Moonburst is no exception!
2: I've played a Gretsch G5260 Baritone, at 29.75" scale, and had a slightly hard time playing it. This is 27" scale and is about as easy to play as a Gibson Les Paul Standard.
3: The Quality Control on this example is sublime! I've not run into any issues with setup, intonation or playability! Jet are crushing it!
Cons:
1: There is no gig bag with this Guitar, this shouldn't be a problem if you take it busking or on the road to a gig, but still worth mentioning.
2: The P90 does suffer from the age-old 60 cycle hum. P90s are similar to Single Coils. They are Single Coils, just fatter, so they do suffer from 60 Cycle Hum.
3: Jet missed an opportunity by not coil splitting the Humbucker. Not a dealbreaker for me because I'm not keen on coil splits, but worth mentioning.
My verdict, with 3 alternative options:
If you want a Jazzmaster style Baritone, for not a lot of money, you're fine with a P90, you are happy with a lesser-known brand on the headstock, and can deal with the 60 cycle hum, then just go right ahead and buy the Jet JJ350 Baritone. Nothing beats it at its price point. If this was the Premier League, it would sit at top spot.
However, if you want just Humbuckers, I would avoid this Guitar and buy a PRS SE 277 instead. Yes it costs more, but you also get coil splits.
If Single coils are what you're after, then avoid both and buy a Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Custom Telecaster. A Baritone Tele that is everything a Tele is, just a 5th lower than Standard.
If you want 1 single humbucker with aggression, then avoid all 3 and buy an ESP LTD M-201 Baritone HT. 1 pickup, aggression, built for players that want to riff
I hate 7 strings but I found this slick rick for some deep metal ick riffs 🤘🤮
Before the purists come at me, when I bought this guitar it was literally the body with no hardware, and the neck with the logo scraped off. You can’t find the original bridge, and I could not find a danelectro equivalent without buying an entirely separate guitar.
Here are the changes made to complete the build:
- Toronado style bridge
- 3 lipstick pickups
- 6-position pickup selector
- black pickguard
- jack/ flat jack plate
- pots and knobs
- black headstock with Fender Jazzmaster waterslide decal (from etsy)
Might be interested in selling for the right price.
Hey everyone, next week i am looking to pick myself up one of the new Gretsch Electromatic Jet baritones, and an accompanying string set to whack on as soon as i get it home, what would y'all recommend for someone who likes loose-ish strings without being too flubby or thick? Scale length is 29.75 and i'm looking to get down to E standard if possible
Thanks!!!!!!
I got a Hagstrom Viking as my primary bari, but was thinking it'd be cool to have another tuned A to A. I saw someone on here buy a temu bari replacement neck and I've got a lot of guitars, so I thought sure, let's convert one.
Not so simple though. I didn't think through the intonation issues, so my thinline tele with a bigsby wasn't gonna be a good candidate. The neck sat there for a few weeks while I stewed. I'd have to physically move the bridge back on a guitar to make this work.
Then one day coming home from work, I see an almost completely stripped guitar body next to a needle drop box. The pickups were still there, and one pot (turned out it was only half a pot), and an output jack. Well shoot I like a project. So I took it home. Realized the pickups actually had their wiring stripped. But I had a couple spares... one of them from a jazz bass pickup swap. So I had to route the pickup holes a little bigger, but thought it would be cool to have both bass and guitar pickups on a bari. I replaced the other parts and wired it up. Don't have a bridge p/u yet, still deciding what to do there. Maybe a humbucker. The setup still leaves a lot to be desired but it's playable for now, I just wanted to get a sound out of it. Oh and it's wired as volume, tone, bass cut, inspired by the choke switch on my bass VI.
I tried blending the guitar and bass pickups but I think I grabbed the wrong one cause they sound out of phase. I'll need to swap it out with the other one when I'm feeling a bit more motivated.
They gifted me a baritone guitar, now wtf do I do. What songs can I play. I don't really know many metal bands that use tunings this low
Lol I don't know whether to laugh or cry or both?
Laugh and cry about the price! 💯
Laugh and cry about the TOAn! It's so fkn heavy omg
Paid 1000 euros...yep, it was a sting. A big sting. I paid probably 200e euros too much for my budget for this purchase.
It was site unseen and I couldve maybe got it a little cheaper but the guy wouldn't budge from 1000...
That said, the growl of this thing is just so good! this is my first baritone so maybe I've got the rose tinted sunglasses on. But damn I can't put it down.
I'm just Jealous of the people who picked it up at 400 dollars back in the say cause IMO this thing makes a stupidly heavy tone for the stock setup.
Before playing it I was already planning new pickup swaps, but For now I'm staying put. Really happy with the tone
It needs a setup as it's got some fret buzz. But aside from that it's quite clean.
Hi everyone, I just joined this group and I hope you can give me some advice.
I have a Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Custom Telecaster. I really love the sound of the guitar, but unfortunately, when I tune the D string correctly, it makes a strange noise. I always have to tune it a little higher than the other strings, which I’m not really happy with either.
I’m using the strings that the manufacturer recommends as a perfect fit for this model: nickel wound .014 / .018 / .026w / .044 / .056 / .068, EXL157.
I also took the guitar to a guitar repair tech, and he said I would need a second string tree. He definitely knows guitars well and is a professional, but when it comes to baritone guitars, I got the impression that he doesn’t have that much experience. So I wanted to ask for your opinion.
I’d like to install the second string tree myself. Are the string trees shown on the foton any good? I’ve already read a little bit about how to install them, but I’d be very grateful for any tips, advice, or helpful links.
Looking to get a baritone but not sure about the necks. I tried the squire Tele baritone (not paranormal) and it was nice but I like satin necks.
I have a Gibson Les Paul that sits in the closet now because the player 2 Tele I have plays so much nicer.
Any baritones out there with a satin necks or do I need to do a conversion neck for a regular Tele?
Thanks
Hey guys, If you having hard times to get nice, rich ambient tone with your baritone one.. I just finally discovered great preset for Nano Cortex. Its capture by DistortionHall and its called CleanTheater. Its really clean and also handling all the lows. I thought someone could appreciate some tips for baritone tones. So just add some reverbs and modulation to your taste and you are ready to go.
