ID Help: Little black specks.

These look small and more oval that carpet beetles I see online. They keep appearing in my downstairs room, about 10 a day. Found larvae in my bath matt. Just moved into a new rental.

Hiring: Remote Freelance Residential Revit Drafter

Hello. I am looking at working with a 100% remote freelance drafter who understands Revit very well and hopefully has a desire to work on homes. I have multiple projects and overhead tasks that can be taken on depending on interest/availability.

- English Fluent
- Revit 3D Modeling (LOD 300)
- Revit Parametric Family Creation
- Revit Template Updates
- Revit Materials Creation
- Exterior/Interior Rendering
- Project Process Streamlining

Background in residential and wood frame construction is a bonus. Freelancers will need to provide their own hardware/software/workstation and invoice me for their services provided. I am flexible on hours but would range 20-30 a week.

Please provide relevant experience, years in Revit, and desired hourly rate (USD) in a comment and I will DM to discuss further.

Remote Revit BIM Managers

I used to work as both an architect and Revit BIM manager and I took those skills to start my own solo architecture practice a few years ago. I have been so busy that I can’t find any time to keep my standards updated.

I’m looking into the idea of hiring a 100% remote worker to do full time drafting & BIM management for me. This would be for a single person to work with me 32-40hr/week, not a drafting company or corporation where I would get bounced between different people, I want one person who is dedicated to my firm to improve operations over time. I am US California based but hoping to find someone based in Europe or Canada who is 100% English speaking/comprehension and has experience with snowy climates. Wood frame construction knowledge is also a huge plus, I work in Imperial units as well.

- Revit modeling drafting on homes
- Revit templates and standards development
- Revit parametric family creation
- Revit materials library development
- Word document integration code
- Standards organization throughout
- Interest in residential design but not so much you want to go start your own architectural firm
- Ability to self start on tasks when given examples of past completed work
- Improve BIM systems to streamline future projects
- Actual passion/interest/enjoyment in this work
- Interest in drafting homes, improved visuals, and renderings
- Would want to stay/grow in this role

This person would need to provide their own computer, work station, software, time management, local tax/labor compliance, invoice/bookkeeping.

Pay would be hourly, but depends on experience but is not “low” like some remote drafting firms charge for their drafters. I am looking for more experienced and efficient rather than less/cheaper. Project completion bonuses would also be included, based on efficiency.

Any thoughts on how to find someone looking for this opportunity? What would reasonable pay look like? Do BIM experts still like drafting? Thanks.

Restaurant’s “kids burger” was just a regular priced burger with no toppings and a free beer.

Went to a counter service restaurant that we normally get my kid an amazing mac n cheese at, but was told that it’s off the menu now. They said they could instead make a “kids burger”. I asked the price, they said it’s the same burger on the regular menu just without any of the toppings - $22. I decided to order a normal burger and split it with the kid, keeping the toppings he wouldn’t want for myself, and opting for water to save some money. I sit down and overhear another table mention that they have a great deal on the burger today, so I looked it up and they have a special for a burger and a beer for $20. I double checked my receipt and yep, was charged the full $22 regular price for just the burger. I was mildly irritated.

For those who don’t know, kid’s burgers are lifeless slabs on a bun but they usually cost around $10.

Hantavirus Positive Help

37M California, healthy BMI and fairly well exercised adult.

I tested positive as seen in the screenshot for Hantavirus last year. It wasn’t a pleasant experience - major body fatigue and twice daily fevers that lasted for 14 days. High lactate dehydrogenase and ALT levels on blood work as well. But I never had pulmonary symptoms or was hospitalized for it. Took about two months to fully recover after symptoms subsided.

I got these positive results back the day after my last fever occurred. I assumed I got hanta from a crawl space about 8 days prior to symptoms and my only known potential exposure around mice in an 8 week period. I was in Mexico about 3 weeks prior to symptoms so I was tested for a handful of things that I could have picked up there but all other test were negative. I did test positive for norovirus early on as I had some stomach upset prior to the fevers starting but my wife and kid also had clear norovirus symptoms from our Mexico trip. My assumption here is I had Noro and then Hanta, a fun little one-two.

My curiosity now stems from reading the follow up from the state lab tests, which I only checked on out of curiosity. I assumed that I had Sin Nombre Hantavirus since that’s the only known kind in California, but their lab results said negative to SNV and instead listed me as “Hantavirus ABN Positive”, which I believe means abnormal. I tried asking my doctor but he’s not responding to my questions and it’s been weeks now.

  1. Could my initial positive results been a false-positive since it failed the state SNV test?

  2. Could my positive provide some natural immunity against other hantavirus strains like Sin Nombre or the currently newsworthy Andes?

  3. I’ve had other mice exposure instances occur since recovering and feel very anxious about these instances for weeks after. Should I be concerned about getting it again?

Thanks.

I have had horrible congestion for the last 3 years. It started out of nowhere and has been slowly worsening. I feel like my head is going to explode some days.

I have never had allergies before and did allergy skin testing (scratch and injection) on my back, was negative to everything.

I’ve narrowed down my symptoms to either my house or my dog(s). I have had my dog for 13 years now she is getting old and crusty. I have a younger dog as well now.

I noticed that when I am away from the dogs I feel significantly better, this also means I am away from the house. I took the dogs on a one week trip with me and had horrible symptoms. Trips without dogs have been great on my symptoms.

I have been sleeping in a RV outside my house no dogs allowed and symptoms are improving greatly. Breathing through my nose normally for the first time in years.

So I am not sure how to proceed. I am ignorant on how allergies work and am puzzled that I tested negative as well, nor have had issues with my dogs in the past. Is there a way to find out if I am allergic more definitely?

I don’t want to dump a bunch of money on allergy shots or give up my pets based on my limited findings. Thanks.
