Would you care if your babysitter fell asleep?

I’m reading a book (>!Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak!<) where the nanny gets fired because she fell asleep for 4ish hours while the 5 year old was having his regularly scheduled quiet time. He came downstairs when he was done with quiet time, found her asleep on the couch, and woke her up. I suspect there’s various other stuff going on because this author typically writes crime/mystery type books, but anyways it got me thinking. I don’t have any kids but I don’t think I would care at all? Like, parents sleep too??

ETA: people keep bringing up the fact that the babysitter is being paid. Why does that matter? Would it be okay if your sister/etc was watching your kid for free as a favor and fell asleep?

ETA2: I've enjoyed these chats, very informative and mostly kind. I wish there was a polling option so I could get a consensus, as there's clearly people on both sides. But for now I'm going back to reading my book (PS if you hate the babysitter for taking the nap, you'll LOVE chapter 26)

What to do for trashcan opossum? Atlanta, GA

I walked into my office parking lot this morning and discovered this little guy! It took me a minute but I realized he was probably trapped, so I took the lid off. Is there anything else I need to do?

Edit bcos I forgot to say: I’m asking because he didn’t jump out immediately, but I was thinking that might make sense since I was still right there. I went inside the office and set a timer to check on him in twenty minutes. I’m hoping to get him on his way before most of my coworkers get in because I’m afraid they’ll call an exterminator or something

Where to find original size Spot-It?

I have an autistic kiddo who got introduced to spot-it at daycare and he absolutely adores it. I went to Walmart and bought a set so we could play at home, but they made him extremely distressed. He said the cards were the wrong size and made his hands hurt. I’ve since tried to find the “normal” size spot-it but the best I’ve found is the yard variety, which are huge and he says it’s still not the same. I took our cards with us to daycare to compare sizes and took the picture attached. The “correct size” daycare ones are on the left, the smaller ones that I got are on the right. Please help!!

PS: I searched this sub to see if this had been addressed before, and I learned that the European variant is called “dobble”. I looked into those but I couldn’t find a concrete answer as to what size they were and most of them had expensive ass shipping and no returns. I’m hoping to spend less than $20 on this endeavor

Dystopian/Revolutionary Media Hits Different

This is pretty stupid, but I (24F) have always had survivalist fantasies. I don’t look forward to societal collapse by any means, but I do expect it to occur within my lifetime (on small scales, at least). I’ve always wanted to change the world, to fight for the revolution, etc. And I’m not giving up on that, it’s just that I’ve today realized that I won’t see the reformed world. My friends and family may, but I personally won’t.

Once things shut down, I have a few months at most before I’m totally incapacitated. I get my levothyroxine in 90 day bottles, so it depends a bit on how far through the rx I am. I suppose I could try to raid a pharmacy, but idk how I feel about that morally. Someone with non-autoimmune hypothyroidism could theoretically get better or at least never have to increase their prescription but I would continue to get worse and worse and be more of a resource drain, only prolonging the inevitable.

Hell, the stress of the shutdown would probably catapult me into additional autoimmune disorders.

Idrk why this hasn’t hit me before, but I’m currently reading “All The Water In The World” by Eiren Caffall (excellent book thus far, highly recommend) and they mentioned thyroid medication and I suddenly had a 90s-movie-esque record scratch moment.

Sigh.

Wearing A Paper Bag

I wish it was more socially acceptable to wear a paper bag over my head. I don’t want people to see me when I’ve had a go at myself. Including my friends, family, coworkers, and partner. It’s fucking embarrassing. I’m ashamed that I’ve done this to myself. Again.

The desire isn’t as bad now as it was in college, though. Especially freshman year. I lived in one of those communal dorms where my randomly-assigned roommate and I each had a twin bed in a room the size of a shoebox and had to walk down the hall to pee or get some water.

Now I’m just lamenting over my mental health walk. I haven’t gone outside today and I’m supposed to go outside every day. But I live on the third floor of an apartment, without a balcony, and I currently look like deadpool. I wish I could just wear a paper bag over my head.
