Thank you fellow Summer Street peeps!

With the 2026 Manhattan Summer Streets now in the books, I wanted to thank all of y’all for a great time yesterday.

I am a Guide with Achilles, and was with running with a fellow Guide (also running) and an Athlete who was using a recumbent bike. You may have seen us!

Let me tell you, this was the nicest Summer Streets I’ve Guided in so far. We were in the bike lane (safer for her and most runners because, when we were moving, we were going pretty quick… hit a 6 minute pace on a number of downhills). Despite being a bit slow on some of the uphills, basically every other cyclists passed respectfully, and we didn’t have any issues. People were conscientious and used a bell or verbal heads up if they were going to pass as well. Thank you for seeing us and helping keep everyone safe and happy.

Also, one other thing stood out in a positive way, as opposed to previous years and other venues. The issue of people wearing headphones/ear pods has been challenging with Achilles at these things and at races. Sometimes people just don’t hear us coming up behind them, despite us calling out. Yesterday, a surprising amount of runners didn’t have these on, which was great because we would sometimes have to yell “coming up on your left” and people were surprisingly aware, and would move over quickly. This happened a decent amount with runners in the bike lane. Thank you again to those people who heard us and moved back into the running lane!

Lastly, thank everyone for all the love, encouragement, and cheering us on throughout the morning. The Athlete had a fantastic time, and was singing during the journey while also cracking jokes with the other Guide and myself, and smiling and waving to those around us. We had a blast, and it made the whole 9.7 miles go by in a breeze. I hope everyone else had as much fun, here’s to more great Summer Streets in the future. 💛

What to do with an old helmet?

I know the rule of thumb is that it shouldn't be worn for riding, but do y'all know of any place that might want it for art or a costume or something? It's in good shape visually (but again, not for riding) and seems to be a waste to just throw it in the trash.

Oven and Range; trying to find more info/manual online

Hey everyone, I came across this barely used stove top/oven, and was trying to find a bit more info online. I was curious about the year it was made, and if there are any manuals online for it. I'm guessing that it was probably made in the mid 1980s, based on the AGA stamp on the picture, and was built by Glenwood Range Co. for Welbïlt. Despite all that, I can't seem to find any info for a manual (to help set the clock etc). Also, everything works perfectly except the knob on the far right, which refuses to turn (yes, I pushed it in first). Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Homeowner's Insurance for Co-op

Hey everyone, after searching this forum, I didn't see too many recent results about this. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for insurance for a co-op. I've seen a few different companies and rates, as well as brokerages that may be worth it? Are there any red flags or things I should look out for? Thanks.

Any parties or discounts/give-aways for Brooklyn Half runners this weekend, May 16th-17th?

Hey everyone, does anyone know of any fun discounts, gatherings, or give-aways available to people who finish the Brooklyn Half this Saturday, May 16th?

I know Threes Brewing had a free pour for people who completed the Brooklyn Experience Half, for example.

I also heard that Ruby's on the Boardwalk at Coney Island will have discounts for runners, and that Brooklyn Brewery may have something available on Sunday.

Thanks, and good luck to all who are running!

May Weekend 5k running challenge disappeared?

Am I hallucinating or was there a 5k running challenge for the first weekend in May (1st-3rd)? I swear I remember doing it, because I was surprised it took place so early in the month, but when I looked at my challenges just now, it's nowhere to be found...
