Puppy going home at 8weeks vs 12

I’ve seen several TikTok’s saying a puppy going home between 10-12 weeks is preferred especially with bigger dogs. Some breeders prefer the puppies to have more time with mom and their littermates. Does this help the puppy behaviorally? I also see a lot of people discussing socialization. Just wondering anyone else opinion on this topic!

Favorite enrichment toys from Amazon!

My in laws and visiting my family and I soon! They recused a three year old mal (currently 6 years old, they’ve had her for three years now!!) I wanted to give her something enriching, easy to clean (if needed), and she’ll enjoy! Although, she won’t be coming to my house. I most definitely want to give her something special! Open to any suggestions!!

Bad breeding

First and foremost, I’ve three dogs from childhood to adulthood. Now, I am 23 with two kids (7months and 2 years old) and recently had to unexpectedly put down my shelter dog due to seizures that caused behavioral issues. It wasn’t safe for my situation and I didn’t feel comfortable rehoming my dog with loads of behavioral and health issues. I miss him so much everyday. This has been such a difficult experience for my family and I. With that being said, this experience most definitely had changed my view on shelter dogs. Especially since ALL three dogs either had physical, neurological, or behavioral issues.
Now, I don’t want to commit to another dog. Mainly cause my kiddos are so young and I am still very much grieving my late dog. But when looking into breeds that I think I’d be interested in, lol everyone in my local area seems to be a backyard breeder. It’s ridiculous. No OFA testing. Most of the breeders refused to let you come by and see the dogs. No contracts. Just money and dog exchange, no further discussions.
It really bothers me that there’s so much backyard breeders considering my local shelter is an open intake and unfortunately had to euthanize almost 2,000 dogs.
I really wanna show up to my local county council and bring this issue up. My local area doesn’t have any breeding restrictions.
Has anybody ever been since successful with pushing stronger laws for breeding regulations?

Time always heals

It’s been four weeks since I unexpectedly had to put dog my three year old dog. Our dog had seizures and had crazy behavioral changes. Unfortunately, my spouse was deployed and I had to make the difficult decision on putting my dog down by myself. I am currently at sahm. My mom came to watch the kids (seven month old a two year old)
Right before we put my dog to sleep, my two year old looked at him and said “bye bye Joey, I love you.” Of course, he has no concept of death yet. (This was before we walked into the vet clinic) But that’ll always play in my mind when I think about the loss of my dog.
I miss my sweet boy so much everyday. It’s crazy how much I’ve grieved his death.

Playful Rottweilers

I’ve met a handful of Rottweilers growing up and they’re absolutely stunning dogs with loads of personality!! Ive never had one so I don’t know their personality too well. But on TikTok I always see different creators messing with their Rottweilers in my personal opinion inappropriately. The Rottweiler will be baring teeth, growling, and very stiff. Then blame it on the rottie rumble. Again, I’ve never had the breed nor am I dog behaviorist but these TikTok famous Rottweilers really seem to be handled incorrectly. Am I being overly sensitive or is it truly the rottie rumble?

Adopting from MAD

I absolutely love Belgian Malinois. We previously adopted one from our local shelter but unfortunately he had a lot of health issues. So he was unfortunately put down about two weeks ago. I don’t plan on getting another dog anytime soon. (Lol, at minimum for another five years.) But I’ve looked into MAD recuse and see a lot of beautiful dogs! Has anyone ever adopted from there? If you have, did you put your pup through obedience board and train after you received them? Did you ever do sniff work? I really wanted to put our potential future dog in sniff work. I wanted to do with our previous dog but unfortunately he got sick before we could do that!

Trauma dumping

I had to be behavioral euthanize my three year old dog. The vet suspected that he had undiagnosed seizures and it fired his fighter flight part of his brain. Although, he was good inside of my house with my kids and I. He started to be aggressive and could hurt others around us so I made the hardest decision and put him down.
I miss him so much. It’s so hard trying to cope. He always struggled with reactive but his last month of life it was difficult for him. I couldn’t imagine his stress and I hope I gave him the best life.
He passed away on Friday morning and I haven’t empty his water bowl, put away his toys or his bed. Frankly, I don’t want to either. Sometimes I lay in his bed and cry. I can’t believe how hard this is. I’ve never experienced grief like this.

Dog Biting Vet Tech

Tw:Dog Bite
Tw:Behavioral euthanasia
I adopted my dog from the local ASPCA three years ago. Our dog (Joe) is a great dog! And I love him sooo much! Unfortunately, he is extremely reactive. Today he needed a vet visit for some x-rays, vaccines, and a dental cleaning.
I usually arrive at the back of the building and I don’t think I have my dog’s trazodone prescription enough time. Joe was still a little nervous so I let him sniff until he couldn’t. Eventually, one of the technicians came out and as she was approaching us, my dog ran over to her and bit her on the arm. Prior to the bite, he was jumping in the air, Wagging his tail, and barking. And again, it wasn’t a big bite. Joe basically grabbed her arm with his mouth but no serious damage was done to her. Obviously I was shocked and so was she. The vet technician put down the clipboard and I immediately started apologizing. I started crying and told her we might have to put him down cause his reactivity is getting out of hand and i genuinely don’t know what the next step is. I was BREAKING down. The vet technician remained calm and asked to put my dog into the car. Which I did and I spoke to the vet. The vet was a very sympathetic and listening to me. She told me some dogs are unfortunately wired differently. I seriously appreciate her. It was so nice to have a judgment free conversation.
We came to conclusion of putting my dog on fluoxetine and gabapentin. Joe also got another prescription for whenever he arrives to the vet.
I had already scheduled a trainer to come out on 23rd. This is such a hard situation for me. I love my dog so much. I don’t think his bite was malicious. I feel like I’ve failed him so much and I am so embarrassed about his behavior.
If anyone has put their dog on fluoxetine, how did it work out?
