Starting developer guide (a very long guide) celebrating 50k downloads 😊

Hey! I see a lot of posts asking for help - how to get more users, downloads ect.

Im not a professional or anything but i wanted to make a help post with some advice i learned along the way.

First stage and the most important one:

You need to offer something better than the competition.

It can be a better user experience with an easy to understand app, more features, a clean design but in the end you need something that would make people want to install your app instead of theirs.

Second stage - getting testers

This one can be a little annoying but if you have done the last part well, you just need to advertise in the right place.

There are ton of subreddits specialized in getting testers, and for people who are interested in apps.

(Android developers, droidshowcase ect)

Third stage - getting downloads

Your app is live, now its the hard and fun part.

My first tip is just from my experience and might not be true: having some paywall inside your app is a great way to get downloads. Any subreddit that your post will say promo codes, is an easy way to get more people to download your app and get feedback.

A great place to get downloads for your app is howtomen subreddit. If you get enough likes and your app is good enough you might even be featured in a YouTube video which would give you a great boost.

Always keep posting about new updates and new features.

Another thing that can help : ads

It doesnt need to be a crazy amount, even 2 dollars a day can get you plenty of downloads, and if your app has a paid product inside you might get your money back

**ASO and play store listing ** : im not great in this part but try to work with some AI to improve your aso, your listing images (please dont do an overly neon AI slop ones) and try some A/B testing Another important thing is make sure that its very clear what your app does just from the first 2/3 images.

Thing to do while in stage three :

1. Take user feedback to heart - yes its really annoying getting a 1 star review but try to see if the user has a point, if you can improve something ect. Some reviews would not make sense but make sure to answer every review respectfully!! People read your comments and it might help you negate the 1 star review impact.

2. Look out for ANR reports and crushes - of your app has many anr reports it would be flagged by the play store and be shown less.

3. Put effort on the UI - its easy to make an app now with codex/cluade ect, but they all build the app with a similar look.. The easiest way to spot an AI built app is the sliders inside the app.

Its not wrong to use AI but you can work with it to have your own unique look.

4.bug reports - this one is pretty obvious but work on your bugs...

5. Don't add every requested feature - Listen to feedback, but make sure features actually fit the app instead of turning it into a mess**.**

6. Retention matters, not just downloads - Getting 1,000 downloads means less if most users uninstall after one day. Make sure the first-use experience is clear and users understand the app quickly.

  1. Create also your own sub reddit and promote it with your app details, be active on it, post progress etc

I really hope that would help, good luck :)

[Promo] One Hand Control just passed 40,000 downloads + Pro promo codes

Update: All the promo codes have been claimed. Thank you everyone 😊
If you end up getting Pro, it really helps me keep developing One Hand Control, adding new features, and improving the app. I really appreciate the support!

Hey HowToMen community :)

One Hand Control just passed 40,000 downloads, which is kind of crazy to see.

I first shared the app here when I was looking for testers before publishing it, and a lot of the early support, feedback, bug reports, and feature ideas came from this subreddit. So I wanted to come back and celebrate the milestone here.

For anyone who hasn't seen it before, One Hand Control lets you control your Android phone using customizable gestures from the edges of the screen.

Since I first posted it here, I've added a lot more actions, Quick Tools, app launching, media controls, macros, customization options, and plenty of other improvements based on feedback from users.

To celebrate 40K, I also have some Pro promo codes to give away :)

They're limited and first come, first served.

Just upvote the post and leave a comment if you'd like one, and I'll send the codes by DM while they're still available.

If you end up enjoying the app, a review would also be very appreciated!

And seriously, thanks to everyone here who has tried the app, sent feedback, reported bugs, suggested features, or just followed its progress.

Seeing it reach 40K is really amazing ❤

Help: did an Indian tech influencer recently feature my app?

Over the last 48 hours, I’ve received a huge spike in bug reports and new users for my app, One Hand Control.
I dont know the number of users i gained yet because playconsole stats........ but i got 50 bug reports in 48 hours which is a very unusuall number for my app.

Almost all of the reports appear to be from India. I haven’t released an update or run a new campaign recently, so I suspect an Indian tech creator posted about it on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, or another platform.

Did you see a recent post or video featuring One Hand Control?

Indian market - help

Hey! I just got a very big publicity boost from a big Indian influencer for my app, i dont have the statistics yet (play console........) but i estimate about 3000+ users in the last 2 days.

But i only got 3 pro users from this.

The original price was about 6.5 dollars and i dropped it in there market since i had no buyers so i dropped it 3 times and still just 1 or 2..

What is a normal price for that market? Is it still too pricey?

(for the global market i have pretty good conversation rate with higher prices, but im trying to take advantage of this publicity boost but nothing..)

One Hand Control - New Features

Hey everyone 😊

One month ago I launched One Hand Control, and I honestly didn't expect so many people to try it and share feedback.

Since then I've spent most of my free time improving the app, fixing bugs, and adding the features you've been asking for the most.

This update is the biggest one yet, with lots of new features and quality-of-life improvements inspired by your suggestions, including the most requested feature: Quick Tools — my own take on Samsung's implementation.

Due to Android limitations, some system toggles like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can't be included, but I've tried to make it as useful and customizable as possible.

Thank you for all the support so far, and I hope you enjoy the update! ❤️

You can find the full changelog on r/onehandcontrol.

One Hand Control

Hi :)

I’m the developer of One Hand Control, an Android app I built to make everyday phone use faster and easier, especially with one hand.

The app lets you create custom edge zones and trigger actions with gestures like tap, double tap, long press, swipes, pulls, and hold gestures.

Some things it can do:

  • Adjust volume and brightness
  • Launch apps, shortcuts, and quick actions
  • Open a floating touch pad/cursor
  • Control media playback
  • Run tap/swipe macros
  • Copy, paste, and select text
  • Use split edge zones
  • Save and switch between presets
  • Take screenshots
  • Open a quick access app/action fan

The app works locally on your device and does not request Internet permission.

Everything is still actively improving, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback, feature ideas, or bug reports.

One Hand Control

Hi everyone :)

I recently released an Android app called One Hand Control.
It’s built around making everyday phone use faster and easier, especially with one hand. You can create custom edge zones and trigger actions with different gestures.
Some examples are controlling volume or brightness, launching apps, opening a floating touch pad, media controls, macros, copy/select/paste, split zones, presets, and more.
I’m still improving the app, so I’d really appreciate any feedback or feature ideas.

Google forcing devs to show home address

Hi wanted to bring up something i just found out, as a small dev i am forced to put my exact home address on my app listing. With google restricting side loading tighter, forcing devs to already pay 25 dollar fee and upload ID to confirm identity, this just feels kind of insane.. Hope to make some noise and maybe maybe cause a change with some help :)

Hi! Ive created an app that lets you control your phone with customizable edge gestures (swipes, taps, long-press, etc') which allows you to control the phone on a new level.

You can map actions like:

  • System Nav: Back, Home, Recents.
  • Productivity: Media controls, select text, copy/paste.
  • Power User: Launch apps or trigger MacroDroid shortcuts.
  • Coming Soon: I’m currently working on an "In-App Macro" recorder (similar to Samsung’s One Hand+ )!

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.onehandcontrol.app

i need testers to help get the app running , if you are interested send me your mail and i will add you to the testers list :)

(the link would not work without me adding you to the list)
