Ultrasound tech might’ve ruined surprise

I want to start by saying that i’m not upset with her or the situation because i could have misheard her but i really really wanted the gender to be a surprise at birth.

I had my anatomy scan today and told her at the start that we opted out of knowing the gender for NIPT so i’d like to make sure she didn’t tell us when doing the scan. She was more than happy to do that and we even talked about the overall experience and why i wanted to wait.

I brought my mom and daughter with me and while we were mid conversation talking about my daughter the ultrasound tech said “there’s her femur” and my mom and i immediately looked at each other but didn’t say anything. That was the only time she said it and said “baby” the rest of the time.

I have no issue with having another girl but i really wanted the gender to be a surprise at birth and now i feel like i know it and its not that exciting moment i had hoped for. It feels silly to complain because baby is perfectly healthy and beautiful but maybe i misheard her!

Any advice on pet odor?

I have a 10 month old and am currently pregnant so I would like to avoid any kind of scent booster/plug ins/ etc. I have two cats and we live in 2 bedroom apartment so not small but not huge. There is a constant smell that i can assume is pet odor. I vacuum everyday, wipe down counters and surfaces, open windows either all day or once a day if the weather permits, and we even have a litter robot which cycles through their litter instead of needing to get taken out everyday. I should also add that their litter box is in its own closet for them to access so not out in the open or anything. Do any pet parents have any tips on getting rid of pet odor?

tips for breastfeeding?

I’m pregnant with my second and really hoping to breastfeed this time around. I was planning to breastfeed with my first but had a couple “complications” and ended up using formula. I was super upset and felt like failure because of it but ultimately knew it was best for her since she needed to eat. I got the epidural which made me swell a lot and because of that it was very tricky getting her to latch. I already have very large breasts and small nipples that don’t protrude a lot (my nipples are literally the size of peas and my breasts are like the size of melons lmao) I met with the lactation consultant multiple times and they gave me a nipple shield to put on top on my nipple to try and pull it out as she latched but unfortunately it always fell off. I had no issues pumping since it would pull my nipple and make it bigger? but pumping was very demanding and i ended up just falling out of routine. I had no issues producing milk just latching. I would really love to breastfeed this time and i would appreciate any advice or tips.

Impetigo? any advice on this rash?

My 9 month old has developed a rash and we can’t quite figure out what it is. my mother suggested impetigo i’m just not quite sure. her pediatrician is out until July 10 so i’m stuck wondering wtf is going on. it’s only on the collar area of her chest. photo isn’t great but it’s very scaly and red. the one very red spot has a yellow ish crust. she has recently started scratching at it causing it to bleed. We have been trying calendula cream and gel. we tried an anti fungal cream for two days because we thought it could be a fungal rash but stopped because we weren’t sure.

- she drinks kendamil organic infant formula
- not currently teething so there hasn’t been any excess drool
- eats organic purees
- no new detergents

NIPT opting out of gender

well i did my blood draw today for NIPT and carrier screening and i opted out of knowing the gender. i’m terrible with secrets and i love knowing things right away so this is definitely unusual for me. but ive heard people rave about waiting to find out the gender at birth so i wanted to give it a go! has anyone else done this or did you want to find out right away?

the only downside is having to decide on two names!

baby aspirin to prevent preeclampsia

hi all! i just had my appointment this morning and my midwife recommended starting baby aspirin tomorrow (12 weeks) to prevent preeclampsia. I’ve never had preeclampsia but there were two things that concerned her

  1. my bmi is considered overweight 2. i had high blood pressure towards the end of my last pregnancy but they would often retest and it would go down. it was most likely due to nerves because there was never any protein in my urine.

I don’t typically take medication even when i’m not pregnant but the idea of taking something while pregnant does make me a little hesitant. Has anyone taken baby aspirin to prevent preeclampsia? despite not having it before?

I want the best for my baby but i’d like to hear some stories from people who did or did not choose to take it.

any positive stories?

I am not looking for medical advice so hopefully i do not get banned for posting this.

I am just at a loss, my first pregnancy was smooth sailing and everything i could’ve hoped for. i’m 7 weeks 5 days with my second and i have been so anxious the whole time especially these past couple days. Two days before my first appointment i started spotting very very lightly, more like a light peach or light tan in a bunch of mucus eventually i brought it up to my midwife and she said she was not concerned as we saw baby in the right spot and confirmed there was a heartbeat just that it could be blood from implantation or even just from the fact im 8 months pp and its a lot of hormones again less than a year after having a baby. She did mention that baby was measuring two days behind based on my LMP but that is was not a concern. a couple days go by and im still having some spotting but never any cramping. last night i used the bathroom and it was much darker than before i just felt crushed and ended up just sleeping it off. fast forward to this morning and im still having this dark brown/pink mucusy blood but again no pain or cramping!! the office is closed till monday and i know they’ll just tell me to monitor it but wow this pregnancy has felt like a mindfuck to say the least. I’ve been trying to look up stories and see if anybody else had dealt with this but i’ve yet to find much especially with positive outcomes. agghh i just needed to get this off my chest

I’m sad that i’ll have to give attention to someone else but her. My body is not where i want it to be right now and im worried being pregnant so soon will mess it up even more. im pretty much just ranting because im scared haha
