What are some comics/runs that focus on personal lives, struggles, or existentialism dread of heroes like this? [Captain America #122]

Pic from Stan Lee's Cap run, which has highs and lows, but Englehart run also fits the bill quite well.

Daredevil is also another one of my favourite heroes for this - he constantly self-reflects on what he's doing and why. You get to see him be a human besides just a superhero who can do it all.

Anyway, examples aside, I am looking for similar vibes/runs where heroes feel more... normal. Like they question things, be their own people, have their own struggles, the stuff they see affects them and so on.

I'm open to trying anything, from major publishers to indies, even non-hero stuff for recs.

Looking for games with strong fxf/fxm, mxf/mxm, or a customisable mc please

Hi hi

I am re-discovering otome games/dating sims and am desperately in need of a game with a strong lead. It can be a classic otome like fxm as long as the fmc is competent (not necessarily a girlboss, but just not a deadweight), but I also don't mind fxm, mxm, mxf, or customisable mc's either.

Apologies if it sounds too broad, but I have an insanely hard time with relating with a damsel in distress sort of character. I'm a woman but that's just not something I can see myself nor is it something I particularly enjoy reading about.

I'm not too well versed in the genre, but any suggestions are welcome and I will check out everything.

Thank you!

  • I have PC, Mac, Switch, 3DS, iPhone
  • English preferred
  • No limit to the budget
  • I'm quite new to the genre but played Nameless, Mystic Messenger, Hakuoki (both), and while I liked the storytelling and visuals, the 'damsel in distress' MCs were getting to me. In comparison, I loved A Date with Death so much that it's in my top 3 (love the worldbuilding in it), and while not an otome, ATRI was great. I'm open to any dating sim or VN overall, just looking for a good game where the main lead is portrayed as competent.
  • Please nothing with too much yelling a la some VNs. Besides that, I hate MCs that cannot get anything done, never tease, never pursue the love interest themselves but worry 24/7, exist to get in trouble and be saved... just that. Cannot stand it, honestly.

What's the best starting point to someone with no DC knowledge whatsoever?

I am the 'someone' in title, yes. Basically, my country had no comic culture when I was growing up, and the only thing I know about DC characters is Batman from the games (Asylum and City) and Wonder Woman/Superman movies. I have seen first season of The Flash.

I have absolutely no idea about Batfamily, Robin, Aquaman, Nightwing, Justice League, Green Lantern, and many more. I'm not saying it as having little experience but I have never heard of them until recently, genuinely don't know anything.

Marvel was also like this to me, and I ended up getting the app and a lot of it became my favourites really quickly. I went from not knowing anything about Daredevil to reading from start to Miller and enjoying it - I have a high tolerance for older content. Thing is, we also have no DCUI app either.

If I wanted to explore DC through the DC Finest collections, what would you recommend? I love character-heavy, internal struggle characters a lot, but I'm open to anything. I'd be getting the books imported from abroad so it'll be about $50 per book which means I can get 1-2 per month max.

How much of your collection have you read?

No judgment to people who collect for a hobby, but I was curious.

I personally read almost everything digitally before committing onto a purchase, but there are a few vols that I bought in advance since they're highly acclaimed and I was getting close to them in my read order. I'm at about 80% that way, but I do have a smaller collection than most here as I got into comics late.

So I wanted to ask:

  • How many books do you have and how many have you read?
  • Are there any vol's you read before then bought later to own a physical copy of?

Super happy with what I got today!

Before anyone points out, I don't care about the left corner and it was the last copy they had. I read and reread my collection a lot so they'll never be kept in a pristine condition anyway :)

Why were people so harsh on Ditko's art? Were these letters the norm for other artists as well?

These are just two examples from my saved screenshots, but every other issue people were so rude to him.

Were there any other artists that got as much flak back then? I think Kirby was always praised but I don't know who else was liked/disliked as much.
