Can of Tomato Paste w/ Holes in Inner Lining
Hey, folks.
I opened a can of tomato sauce and there was what looks like a hole in the inner lining of the can. There also was a small lump sitting at the bottom, which I assume is the missing lining.
I opened several cans after that and they all had holes in the lining. Some of the sauces had a darker color than others, but they all had these holes and clumps. Even from a separate batch of cans of the same brand (bought like a year apart), the newer ones also had the holes and clumps.
This can't be just a thing I have never noticed, right? I tossed all of it, but want to know if that was the right call. Would it have been safe to eat?
In the picture it is near the bottom of the can, but other cans have it in different places.
Edit: To add some of what the auto mod mentioned: It is Member's Mark canned tomato sauce. It has been stored at room temperature in my pantry. I bought the first ones 2 or 3 years ago. I bought the newer ones, like the one in the picture, about a year ago. I also realized I said paste in the title, but it is sauce.
