My humble first attempt

My humble first attempt

Long time lurker here, never made my own grilled cheese before, I had a lot of food allergies when I was growing up (dairy included) so there was no need for me to learn how to make some basic foods that everyone else made. Today I made myself a grilled cheese and it was so good that I'm gonna make another one!

Elevators!

I work in various buildings with elevators. One of the buildings I work in is the health sciences center. I've only been there since November so I'm still pretty new to NLHS compared to many other employees, but a lot of the main elevators are FREQUENTLY out of order, like...every few days. Someone I work with was trapped in an elevator recently for over an hour before he was rescued. Apparently one of the elevators caught on fire today, according to healthcare staff I was speaking with as we were evacuating the hospital and the fire trucks were showing up.

Legend has it that there's only ONE GUY in the whole province who fixes elevators. Every time the elevators are out of order in the HSC (again, several times per week), I hear people talking about this. What's the deal? Is this true?

And on a related note, why did they cancel plans for a new hospital? Because, holy shit.

Pressure washing costs?

Wondering if anyone knows how much it would normally cost to hire someone to pressure wash a patio, stairs, and some small concrete areas.

My father has all his own equipment, and he's offered to pressure wash my apartment's patio, stairs, etc for me (he's a retired bayman who is always looking for a project, bless him) and the landlord (a company) said we could go for it, but they also said that if we send them some before and after photos, then they would give us a discount on our rent next month for doing it ourselves. Just wondering what people charge for that kind of job, so I can negotiate a rent discount in exchange for my dad's equipment and labour (and buy dad a really nice bottle of scotch with the money we save on rent, obviously).

Edit to add: this was kind of last minute and dad is potentially coming to do the job as early as tomorrow, so I may not have time to call around and research it myself!

My collection thus far + bonus gifted specimen

Not a scientist, not familiar with taxonomy, but these are my specimens...I just like to organize them and keep them safe in their little jar. Includes a bonus tie dyed ninja star occlupanid cousin that a child made for me. :)

Waterford Bridge Road School Zone Rant

EDIT: okay okaaaay apparently I was also in the wrong because I didn't understand that I don't have to go 30 in a school zone outside the posted school hours. I humbly admit that I was wrong, too, and thank you all for your comments, I learned something today. I was just trying to drive safely. But that doesn't change the fact that the other driver was still driving like a dangerous distracting dummy.

B'ys oh b'ys oh fuckin' b'ys, it's a fucking school zone. There are speed cameras giving out $650 tickets. There are giant yellow SLOW DOWN, CHILDREN PLAYING signs on every tree and pole. It's a narrow, winding road with blind turns.

Just drove downtown down Waterford Bridge Road and I slowed down for the school zone, even though it's 8:00 pm, just in case. Complete fucking TOOL and his wife in a blue SUV style vehicle came right up behind me, maybe a foot from my bumper (I drive a small car), and tailgated me for the entire school zone. I could see them flipping out in my mirror and waving their hands. Then buddy LEANS on his horn! Like, get fucked, moron, like driving slowly for half a km of your life is such a big deal?!!!

Anyway, I rolled my window down and pointed at the signs on the side of the road and continued doing 30 while they let their horn rip. They were swerving like they wanted to try and pass me and I swear they almost hit my car they were so close to me. The optimistic person in me hoped they were having an emergency or something because they were acting insane, but as they passed me down at the lights and hung a right to go up the hill, they were laughing and WAVED sarcastically at me as they drove by.

So yeah, get bent. I hope you fuckheads catch a $650 ticket next time you drive down that road, and I really hope you don't kill a fucking kid.
