Working as a consultant
Recently went from in house (where I did everything) to an agency / consulting role. And I'm struggling to see how this is an effective method of delivering social media marketing.
When I was in house, I had control over almost everything. I came up with all the ideas and executed them myself(graphic, video, copy, everything). And I did it pretty fast. Usually, could post most things without needing approval.
But in my new role, there are just so many chefs in the kitchen. Whereas in my in house job, I did everything, here I'm just in charge of ideas, copywriting and strategy. The we have a graphics team to do graphics (although I find traditional designers struggle with socials so it takes forever to get it "right") And then we have all team leads, PMs and client approvals.
By the time the post makes it through all of this, the life gets sucked out of it or the trend is over. And that's just creating posts. We don't have full access to client pages to do things like responding to comments, posting stories, engaging with other accounts, etc. - the small things that help create a sense of community with audiences.
Went on a bit of a rant there, but I guess my question is, how do you as a social media strategist function in an agency or see your job? In my mind, I should be the one "directing" our team to create a perfect social media strategy and at the end of the day... drive results. But with all these different people involved, it seems impossible for me to do anything impactful.
