State of Higher Ed Fundraising

I’m new at a large university. It feels like every leadership decision out of our central fundraising office has been bad and really poorly received by the individual units and schools. Most people don’t even pay attention to new directives and initiatives since they seem so unserious. So much administrative bloat, terrible new dashboards and data practices that seem to revolve more around their metrics than practical fundraising standards. The university annual giving team is just putting out AI slop gift appeals. University gift officers come across like lularoe salespeople, a lot of jargon, and no clear direction or fundraising initiatives they seem to be championing. Just endless recruiting appeals for campaign council groups. Is anyone else seeing this at their institutions? Is the central university development office always kind of Mr Magoo-ing around in the background and the real fundraising happens within each unit?

Very confused as this place had a terrific reputation and this is my first job in higher ed. Would love to hear from others.

Plz see this gets to the Ann Arbor Politics Facebook page. I’ve been banned for using too many GIFs

By trapping urban runoff, leaf litter, and stagnant water within these protected bike lanes, Ann Arbor “politicians” have basically created artificial swamps right next to our sidewalks. Without regular traffic and 4,000-pound cars driving over the asphalt to disperse standing water, these blocked-off corridors have become sun-baked breeding grounds for cyclospora. It only gets worse with the rise of downtown high-rise apartments. These massive luxury towers are overloading our aging sewer infrastructure, forcing microscopic backflows, while simultaneously creating "wind canyons" that perfectly funnel that parasite-heavy puddle mist straight into outdoor dining patios and the open windows of gridlocked commuters.

Those infected commuters then head back home to places like Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Detroit, taking the bug with them and triggering a massive, state-wide gastrointestinal crisis. Yet, City Council completely refuses to look at the data, preferring to let the citizens of Michigan stay locked in their bathrooms rather than admit their pro-density, car-free experiment is a literal health hazard. It’s time to halt the high-rises, rip out the pylons, restore the lanes, and flush these parasites out of our city for good. Mayor Taylor, you’re our only hope.

Does the brand just send it out as a gift the moment you get cast on Bravo? Like even Oisin from Southern Hospitality has one.

Anyone feeling underwhelmed with their GH experience compared to what their tuition rates are? Feels like quality has dropped off over the last few years and I don’t know if it’s just our location or more widely felt. I think they’ve opened too many locations and are spread too thin. Kind of reminds me of same admin troubles out of AAPS. There were some major changes during Covid and I never felt like we’ve rebounded to the 2019 days. We’re about to age out but I’m curious how other families have felt.
