Teacher here. Yoga keeps flaring up my low back pain

Found out I have a few bulging lumbar discs. I have only been doing gentle flows- no deep twisting or backbending at all. No belly down backbending. I started reformer Pilates and started to feel really good after those classes. So I decided to go to an all levels vinyasa class Sunday. Did a few locust poses and minor twisting. 2 days later I am basically incapacitated. My entire low back is locked up and very sore. I’m afraid I will need to avoid yoga altogether for awhile. Has this happened to anyone here?? Just trying to find a bright light that maybe I can go back to it someday without pain after. I am modifying with blocks etc. but I should not have done the locust pose multiple times. And should have e avoided vinyasa/upward face.

It’s frustrating. This is my social community.

Editing to add:

I’ve had this pain off and on for two years. Finally had an MRI in January 2026. Gave me my answers. Suffered with sciatica badly in May 2026. Did PT for about 13 weeks. It was mostly helpful.
Anytime I go back to more than gentle yoga- I feel this pain (muscular) in my
Low back.
Trying to do Pilates and strength training moves at home. Both of these help. Once I do yoga I take a few steps back so time to put it on hold.

I’m a RN with about 25 years experience- I am trying to do all the right things. Just wondering if anyone else has had these issues and what helped you.

I wound absolutely tell any of my students to take some rest- see their doctor and follow their advice. And if they’ve done all that, I’d tell them to take a rest period or modify whatever they can.

25 year marriage- feels like room mates.

Basically have had a lot of ups and downs in our relationship. Almost divorced about a year ago. I just turned fifty (F) and he is four years older than me. It just feels stale and generic. We don’t do much together except golf and now we didn’t even do that together anymore. He never even asks me to go. Or seems interested in my life at all. We just seem to be really growing apart. We have two adult sons. One still lives with us. I don’t want things to end but I also want to feel loved and wanted by someone too. Anyone else go through this?

Not tolerating Lipitor

So I’ve only been on Lipitor 10mg daily for about 2 weeks and it’s making me feel like I have the flu plus giving me reflux badly even though I am on a PPI and it’s been well controlled for years.
I have elevated LPa and borderline LDL . I know Lipitor works for me because I was on it about 6 months ago and I took it “off and on” I forgot quite a bit and it knocked my LDL down 35 points from the occasional use.
I’m looking to switch to pravastatin. I took Crestor before 5mg and had weird palpitations on that. I’m waiting to see a cardiologist just to make sure we are covering all bases.

For reference I’m a 50F about 35 lbs overweight (working on this) no HTN no diabetes A1C 5.0 I don’t smoke and I’m moderately active. Dad has high LPa and just found out. He had a heart attack at age 61 and a triple bypass age 72. Otherwise healthy. Mom has COPD from
Smoking.

Anyone else on pravastatin with good results?

Needing a book rec that will lift my spirits being stuck in a not so great marriage.

Looking for something with a great relationship that’s not cheesy romance. I would love to get wrapped in a book where the couple is great but not overly sappy.

Got my first “no go” after scanning. 😑

So I slacked a bit this weekend with social functions and am not able to switch to the next tray yet. Scan again in 3 days. BUT this will move my weekly scan day to Friday which sucks to have the pain all weekend. Ugh. I have 27 trays total and I’m done after this. I don’t care if things aren’t perfect. I only did this so I could bond my four front teeth. So I’m not looking for perfection. These attachments are ripping up my entire mouth too. I’m HOPING after the 27 trays I can just get the attachments off and do a retainer. Much more manageable than all these razor sharp attachments.

Found out today my LP(a) is 241

I never would have checked this if my father didn’t just have it done and his was also high. (Mine is higher) he had his first heart attack at age 61 and a triple bypass ten years later. My LDL is 136 so I am on Lipitor 20 mg but I’m sure they will increase it. I can’t help but feel like I’m on a “ticking clock” ⏰ now of life. I mean we will all die of something, but now I feel like my life is going to be shorter than I wanted it to be. 😢 I don’t really know how to feel. I almost wish I didn’t know, but I’m also glad I do so I can try to take my LDL very low. Nothing else really I can do?

Bleeding gums on one side?

One month in. Left upper gums near molars are red and bleeding when I brush. Also tender. Frustrating as I brush like 4 times per day.

What is going on?

Gummy smile. Small teeth.

I will be on my 4th tray tomorrow of 27- then we will see. I was planning to bond the first 4 teeth to make them slightly more normal size?? I just hate how tiny they seem. And square.

Tray 3/27. I want to rip these from my mouth.

My scan day is Tuesday so I changed my tray last night and OH BOY. The second I snapped it on it was super tight. Waiting for it to loosen up a bit and become a bit more comfortable- but I’m back to elastics overnight only. (Was all day but my TmJ was really bad) is every week going to feel super tight like this? My last one wasn’t as bad.

How are people doing any sort of kissing with these?? 😂🙏🏼

I mean. If I take the trays out I have knife sharp attachments on almost all teeth! And I also have buttons on my K9s for the elastics. 😂 I’ve been married 25 years. Guess it’s fine to skip that for a year. 😆

Has this mad anyone’s TMJ worse?

I have had TMJ for over half my life (I’m 50) on the left side. I’ve only just begun this process but we are fixing my minor overbite and when I take my tray out of feels like my back teeth don’t line up at all anymore? Maybe because all these buttons on my teeth are throwing them off? Will see what she thinks with my next scan with the mouth tube ! IYKYK ..😆😬🤞🏻 I hope it doesn’t make it worse!

I wish I didn’t need elastics.

My God—the pain involved with them is really making me question doing this. I have to wear them all the time! I kind of hope that changes- but I doubt it will. Those of you with elastics. Do you ever get used to it. I change trays (so far) weekly. So I feel like I’m never going to get used to these because by the time I do- I’ll need a new tray.

I guess I’m just needing some positive stories to keep me from crashing out.

Did you get all your trays at one time?

I just started treatment today. I got two boxes with a total of 27 trays hopefully changing out once per week. I was quoted maybe 16 months but I only have 27 trays. I actually don’t have a lot of movement needed so I’m hoping that I can have them on less than one year.

Day one today!

I have 27 trays to go! Ugh. 😑 they feel okay when they are in but OMG eating sucks!! I can feel every little “button” and I have many! I don’t have much movement to do but I hope the time goes by quickly! Supposed to be weekly changes and am going to be a great model patient because I want them off ASAP! I have a little bonding to do after but looking forward to the results and getting used to the “new normal “ for a bit. Here’s hoping it also leads to some weight loss 🤞🏻😆🙏🏼

New sciatica - why is my calf pain SO bad????

Long story short I took my dog on a trail run one week ago today and I don’t normally do that so I think GHing on unstable terrain plus having a few bulging discs in my lumbar spine caused this new sciatica. It is all the way down my right leg, but the worst part is when I get horrific Charlie horse type cramps in my right calf it is debilitating. Nothing really helps the pain. Maybe standing or walking, but I can’t so that all day every day. I hope this doesn’t take long to resolve! I’ve never had sciatica and it’s so severe I don’t wish it on my worst enemy. Not even sure what to do to relieve this pain.

My pain feels like a deep Charlie horse

So I have a few minor bulging discs in my lumbar spine. They’ve been stable. I’ve been able to work out with very little back pain. I’ve been doing really well. Up until this past weekend when I went on a trail run with my dog, I think, running up and down the hills on the uneven terrain did something. Because for the rest of the day and for the last three days, I’ve had unbearable sciatic pain from the left hip all the way down to my foot sometimes my foot feels like it’s asleep with a tingles and a little bit of numbness. But in the higher in the buttock area, it feels like a horrible Charlie horse. It doesn’t feel like a sharp pain it feels like a deep, pulling muscle like a Charlie horse anyone else? Things a first for me- no clue what to do.

I am looking for sheets that are for hot sleepers - that’s are very soft and don’t pill so easily. I’d like to spend under 100.00 if possible. Thanks! 😊
