Our Spanish-speaking nanny keeps coming home from the park with stories about other Nannies charging for their bilingualism. Is this accurate state of things out there?

Our nanny is Spanish speaker. In fact, she speaks very little English. So even if I requested that, she speak in English, it would not be possible. But for the last couple months or so she’s come home from the park at least once a week talking about how other nannies she’s met out there are charging extra for teaching their child Spanish. I have literally never heard this as a thing before. And I can’t help but wonder if she’s indirectly asking me for more money because I find it hard to believe. She has told me other white lies in the past so trying to understand if this is one of them or is this a fairly standard agreement when it comes to bilingualism

We bought a Limited in June. Here is my review several months later

TLDR: we love this car. The space is incredible. The cabin is extremely comfortable. The seat configuration makes long rides feel like you’re floating along in a traveling hotel room.

One thing I thought I’d miss but I don’t: the 360 cam: i was really, really considering the platinum so that I could get 360 camera. But the radar notifications on the limited are actually working quite well for us. Our other car has a really sophisticated 360 camera, so it’s not like I haven’t experienced the other side. But I am really glad we didn’t pony up for the higher build just for that.

Regret: I wish we hadn’t gotten the Ottomans and instead opted for the spare tire. We have two kids so they are taking up those two seats. Once they’re old enough to get in the way back I’m sure we will appreciate it though.

Also, I really wish one of the cupholders was big enough to hold a bigger water bottle. My odwala won’t fit and every time I absentmindedly try and put it in one of the cupholders it irritates me. I know the attachments I can get, and I probably will at some point, but considering how many cupholders and space this car has, it seems like it would’ve been an easy thing for them to make one of the cupholders even just a half inch bigger.

Is there a small business mafia holding Fairmont back?

I ask because it seems like all of the restaurants are owned by the same group. Any new restaurants that try and open up face considerable difficulty getting off the ground due to permitting issues. One of the few good restaurants, Cantina Feliz, has landlord disputes And is now going under. Then there’s the case of London Grill and bar which has literally been empty since before 2020. So what gives?

Any recommendations for local exterminators who actually pull back large appliances and seal offps

For whatever reason, we can’t seem to find someone who does anything other than put some peanut butter down on mouse traps and fill baiting stations. I’m looking for a company that goes the extra mile to find a few of the main entry points and seal them off.

We have an aqi of 182 and probably getting worse today. Should we keep our son home from wilderness camp today or is the outdoor exposure worth the free play outside our city?

We live in the heart of a major us city so he doesn’t really get a lot of open woods exposure. This camp is a half hour away and exposes him to twice daily swimming, creeks, and lots of outdoor free play. Is this terrible outdoor smoke ok for a day or should I hold him home since I can. He doesn’t have any asthma conditions or anything else. What would you all do? Having trouble weighing the pros and cons!

how can we make the transition to big brother as stable as possible during a chaotic time?

We're expecting our second baby in two via surrogacy. We've been openly communicating with our 4 year old about this and he's very excited to "go get baby brother". We're making it a family trip to experience this together and will drive 8 hours away to go there. Meanwhile, some other things are happening. My partner is doing a two week physical therapy intensive in another state. We're undergoing a massive construction project in our living room. He's experiencing his last week of preschool. and will experience his first week of camp with all knew people. And we're feeling terrible about all of it.

But all of them are must-dos. So given all this change in his life, what can we do to help him feel LESS like his world is flipping upside down. Even though it probably is?

As a nanny, how would you prefer to be "broken up" with?

We have a part time nanny who we were hoping we'd transition into a full time job when our second child arrives in july. She is an absolutely wonderful playmate to our son who's 3 but she requires way too much direction and is fairly disorganized and messy. We can't imagine putting her in charge of our newborn. We also have decided to spend time alone as a family while I'm off on maternity leave and not getting any outside help for a few months before beginning our search again for a full time replacement.

We'd like to let our current nanny know of our plan but in a way that preserves feelings. also we've alreayd put out some feelers to help give her leads on a new families and plan on giving her as much time as she needs to find a new family before we stop our services. What else can we do to soften the blow? We dont plan on making this a performance based thing. We'd much rather just chalk it up to wanting to take more time as a family before bringing in outside help.

Any thoughts on some scripts of how to deliver this news to her?

For anyone whose parents hated your baby’s name, did it get better?

My parents hate our son’s name (due in June) and it’s really bothering me. I suspect they’ll change their minds when they see him? Looking for some reassurance I guess.

It was to let an ambulance pass with his sirens blaring very clearly on its way to an emergency. There were no other places to pull off. So What the actual eff. You then went on to yell at other vehicles doing the same. And they were nowhere near you when merging so you had plenty of time to brake or go around. EVEN if the law prohibits it, in an emergency, do you really agree with letting an ambulance sit in traffic to protect your ability to bike freely? I cycle from time to time so I get your battle in principle but for fucks sake man, Have some humanity. This is a message for anyone who wants to prioritize general principles over an emergency situation.
