the game of telephone has completely distorted travis replacement conspiracy

it wasn't "the bell house", it was a taco bell twitch stream. he was trying to climb onto the sign to prove it makes the sound if you punch it (it did not) and he fell into an inconveniently placed punji pit

some of you are kind of part of the problem vils a vils transphobia

i'm not trans. but the very cliffs notes basic of equality is saying everyone should get to live however they want free of being forced. like, the reason you'd ask for trans rights is to give people the freedom to live.

and so obviously part of including marginalized groups in media is showing them in a range of positions, not just to 'educate' people but because it's only fair for everyone to feel represented in media, not in one role, but in all the ones that we have.

and so it really feels weird when some of you insinuate that jax being trans while also being a huge asshole is some like rep failiure. that's part of the premise of inclusion. trans people who are more mean than nice should get to be in the world of fiction, it strikes me as a strong rhetoric failiure to say you want equality, but that at the same time, trans people should be limited to certain roles in fiction.

red's desire to escape is so evocative to me

so much of my life the real world just feels like this garish synthetic nightmare, i feel so hard for red wanting to leave the nonsense and be free. and the way he's roped into these mediocre simulacra of what he wants and finally escapes, it is beautiful.

i think the adventuring digital crocus is like mediocre on a storytelling level, but relaly good from an art direction perspective, and i think the creator, goose works, is really just an ok person

i think if you disagree then probably because cringe or media no literate

simulation theory could be right, but we live in the real world anyway

simulation theory says that there are two necessities for the world to be a simulation, first we'd need to imagine simulating a world like ours is possible, and second we'd have to imagine there exist societies that want to create simulations, and then that if those were true, then we would more likely exist in a simulation than a real world since there'd be too many

anyway, even if it is fairly believable that if simulations were possible we'd be more likely to live in a simulation, but it also implies there's a chance that, by pure coincidence, we would live in the only real world. we'd never know, either. simulation theories are based in last-thursdayism, you cannot prove or disprove a simulation by your observations, because it is based in the idea that anything you observe was invented to construct a narrative.

planning on getting into sam & max

i don't know much about it. i think i basically understand that max is a mischevious bunny and sam is a professional. i know they got some point + click adventure games, i know they were a famous comic, and i know they got a short-lived cartoon.

i like all 3 of those forms of media, and sam + max feels like it's cut from the same cloth as a lot of the type of media i like, i'm a big fan of like early 2000's to 2010's naivete and optimism, and as much as i get the sense that sam + max was kinda like irreverant and cynical for its time, i bet to me as a modern audience it'll come off as a little tame.

i also kind of think it might have some of what i liked about homestar runner, although that is just a hunch.

we will see.

i wish griffin mcelroy would be on oneyplays

i was thinking about this today and i just think griffin would disintegrate hanging out with them

like, first of all they make a lot of racist jokes & i think if he had to be around for them he would shed a single tear

it would also be funny if travis mcelroy hung out with them, because i think he would either walk out on them and tell them their racist jokes make him SICK, or he would get weirdly offensive just to fit in with them

is bopopolis broken or something

it's not even that hard a level i'm consistently making it to the huge barrel jump onto mister owl, but every fucking time no matter when i press the button it never works, is the jump broken or something. it isn't precise it just doesnt work ever.

edit: i am still super mad because i think the input responsiveness was annoyingly poor, but i figured it out + beat the level.

i dunno man like hes always like "OH MY GOD FUCK YOU GUYS, BE FUNNIER!!" and it's like dude if you're this mad about the tone of the podcast you're in maybe you should've picked different podcasters to be with.

its every bit with him where hes like "man this joke sucks dog shit" and its like i was enjoying it until you got so mad at it that you threw a revolver at it

I recently read Moby Dick, and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around Ishmael as a character.

I guess I don't fully understand his narrative role. I notice he sometimes comes off to me as noble, the way other characters praise him and interpret him as insightful, but it feels like his behavior is never especially moralized. I don't see him as morally grey, it feels as though he is almost portrayed as a character unrelated to morality.

For example, Ishmael discusses sort of a deep dissatisfaction in life near the beginning of the text, implying that he joins work on this boat because he is a dissatisfied wanderer with a sort of repressed desire for death, but on the boat, he looks far different. He comes off as deeply grandiose, thoughtful and he doesn't really seem aware of the dissatisfaction he mentions earlier.

I guess what I'm curious about is, do the rest of you think of Ishmael's characterization as a lack of attention that allows him to serve the purpose of a simplistic communicator of ideas, or do you think of Ishmael as an unreliable narrator, who's personal qualities are being concealed by him as a narrator? I can't tell if I'm seeking meaning where there is little to be found.

i am drinking a 1 liter bottle of pepsi after a long walk in the burning sun.

it hurt my very soul being outside in the heat, so despite being off full sugar soda for a while now, i got a big pepsi and glugged it down. it is bad for my body but it made my soul feel joy.

max fun is nebulously anti capitalist

it isn't substantively oppositional to the system, but it likes the idea that it's a quazi-corporation that is only seeking out the sustainable systems it needs to live. jesse thorn is a little leprechaun who needs to feed on your money to live, will you not please hand him some fat stacks so he can game

that's the whole reason they like to pretend they're a charity, it's because they aren't a corporation. give us money voluntarily (we aren't charging a rate for our products), and then, here's the lovely part, you can enjoy your involvement.

that's the truly wet & wild thing about the max fun drive's fixation on new & upgrading donors

my brother in christ i thought you'd founded your quazi-corporation on an opposition to the capitalist myth of endless exponential growth, what possible justification do you have for demanding a lot of my american dollar bills even though i am *already a donor*

if you're making *enough*, why are you asking people for *more*.

and frankly i don't think the answer is crazy complex, it's 'cuz it's a capitalist company. the sort of like disinterest in capitalism is largely an act.

i might even go so far as to say it's actually kind of morally gross that they're asking for money that's quazi-charitable when that money *could be going* to a real charity. like if a real charity said "i'll give you a trinket if you give more" i'd be like *hell* yeah, *i* like donating to charity. there's not going to stop being homeless kids any time soon, there's not gonna stop being bad stuff any time soon. but like max fun's goal is pretty fuckin' finite. they don't have a cause, they're just entertainers who want to not die for their entertainment

you have enough money to straight up not die, the need for new upgraders is like straight up manipulation that straight up messes with real charities

straight up not cool.
