that's not how ordering works. i desperately want to tell them that since it wasn't on their order, they'll have to pull around and go thru the drive-thru again. i know that'd be unnecessary and rude but dammit, it's what i feel deep in my heart. straight up if they said "can i have a free extra sauce packet" at the order window i'd do it as an act of decency, but doing the weird cowardly little-baby method is *so* dumb.

mine is most certainly the time he was outed for his cancer lie on lolcow live, and he kept saying "wah i'm having a panic attack" but keem ignores him and just keeps goading him. an all timer moment to me because of the abject retribution of booger being rage baited and having his manipulation ignored

someone said i tried to kill her son because he's allergic to onions and the burger had onions in it.

the part that makes me mad is first of all i didn't make the burger, second of all the guy who made it forgot to put no onions cuz he speaks very little english & came here on his day off

people have this weird delusion where they think they're being altruistic by buying mcdonalds. you're taking advantage of the employee's lack of rights, you are the beneficiary. if you're upset about the onions, and i totally don't blame you, call the damn supervisor. don't scream at me for asking for a plain cheeseburger and not recieving one, and don't scream at the cook for being a foreigner.

i do not know about you all but i use youtube for background audio a lot and something that sticks out to me constantly is how it has gotten exponentially worse in the past few years. it just tries desperately to force me to watch godawful trash all day because it's the kind of vapid abundant nonsense that makes youtube money, like it desperately wants me to become an oneyplays fan and like that's never gonna happen but youtube loads my recommendations with oney plays even when i click do not recommend channel

anyways, one of the most chronic and annoying issues i run into with this issue is MBMBAM content. it's just these weird channels (i want to call them content farms but there is an entirely reasonable chance they're run in good faith) that make these like edits of mbmbam and it drives me insane, i spend like 4 hours trying to find decent content and after it ends youtube autoplays some like 8 hour long munch squad compilation. it is infuriating. even if i *did* want to watch my brother my brother and me all day why the fuck would i want to watch the same 30 second gag over and over and over and fuckin.g over again

mostly i just hate youtube. but also, i hate youtube trying to bully me into watching mbmbam.

i think probably my feelings of 'the world has gotten worse' are irrational, i hear it's age related and nostalgia related, so even if i feel that way i imagine it's not rational. but that being said, but holy fuck it's such a weird and sad sensation watching these grown ass adults acting like 6 year olds

they'll order cookies and then like just sort of awkwardly shove the cookies at me if they're not 'fresh', which is first of all screw you, second of all like i don't know why don't you just ask politely instead of throwing the cookies you're wasting at me, they're like 10 minutes old.

customers who had to wait like 10 minutes who'll demand a discount because they... had to wait for the items they chose to purchase? (I remember one time an angry customer asked to see a manager because I refused to give him a discount, and the manager pretended he wasn't capable of giving him a discount because id already taken his money, which was funny)

there's also the customers who kind of babble incoherently and it's like, why don't you just read the menu?? it's right in front of you? why are you asking me for stuff we don't have and getting mad when we don't have it?

it's irresponsible to pretend that like there's some evil cultural rot that caused this, but it's just annoying and genuinely sad to watch. adults acting like babies. like fuck dude. do you ever have deep thoughts or do you live your whole life just confidently waddling around and demanding stuff.

makes me sad.

three fundamentals of most arguments, let's look at the three of them.

Specificity: Making specific claims, identifying specific numbers, detailed looks at the internal functions of different technologies. So, for example, what is a LLM? Well, i'd say that mostly, it is a very advanced version of a next-letter prediction service. Think about it, regardless of whatever happens behind the scene, LLM's are only trying to decide which letter should come next. Everything they accomplish grows out of this function. Now, there are multiple perspectives on this - but that's what I mean to get at; if you want to discuss the motivations and connotations of AI, then you should NOT be prioritizing intuitive observations, you SHOULD be looking at specific information. here's another important element - neurochemistry! it is a growth of the chemistry practice rooted in the examination of the relationship between the brain's function, and the chemical processes it's rooted in. This is important, because if you want to discuss "AI Rights", then it's important to look at the *specific* research and data the world has on hand - and MUCH of our research about the nature of consciousness in a strictly physical sense, is mostly rooted in neurochemistry.

Primary sources: Much of what this reddit discusses are vague assertions by higher ranking members of companies - every time a CEO mentions that one day, LLM's will be mystical and advanced, but these aren't stellar sources. The reason is, these higher-ranking people are not working in the day to day, they aren't in the nitty-gritty of AI's function, they're operating on a larger scale, and they're also there for *profit*, even if the AI was stagnating, they would want folks like you - folks hopeful for advanced AIs to exist, of course CEO's and higher-ranking folks are going to make vague statements. If you want to find proof and research around advanced AI's, then you should look at statements and *where they come from*.

Perspective: I think what a lot of you struggle with is understanding the cultural context of branding and capital. You're looking at the science of engineering as a linear process that only has the motivation of advancement, but I think that's too optimistic. Take a gander at the function of the company - Microsoft is a brand, and it has investors trying to buy and sell for a profit, it has a board of directors intended to hire/fire to maximize profit for the brand, and the CEO, trying to maximize profits for Microsoft. But here's the thing - say the tech industry falls apart. What do those three forces do? Well, the CEO can jump ship with a golden parachute and find a new profitable position. A board of directors, similarly, can find a new position, especially if they kept the brand profitable, and of course most of wall street will sell out at or shortly after the peak, instead of sitting there trying to keep it running. What I mean by all that, is that the owning class of a company can easily drain it of its resources, and move on. If that sounds unrealistic, I invite you to consider Sears, once on par with Walmart, and a company completely drained of resources, simply because they moved on to new things.

All of that to say, what profit inscentive is there in OpenAI? What profit inscentive does Microsoft have to keep it operating? At the end of the day, the highest class with final say isn't afraid to gut a dying brand for its residual profitability - the makeup of AI is expensive, if they dismantle a brand, they'll sell off its makeup.

I don't think an advanced AI is impossible under capitalism. But there ARE surrounding factors, and there's a complete ignorance of these factors. There's a neglect of almost all specificity, because I think this reddit's discourse is mostly about trying to find a reason to stay hopeful - and I don't think that's unreasonable, but if you're truly hopeful for an advanced AI, i think it's vital to realize that what you are looking for is almost certainly not in the cards vils a vils profitseeking.

i'm not trans. but the very cliffs notes basic of equality is saying everyone should get to live however they want free of being forced. like, the reason you'd ask for trans rights is to give people the freedom to live.

and so obviously part of including marginalized groups in media is showing them in a range of positions, not just to 'educate' people but because it's only fair for everyone to feel represented in media, not in one role, but in all the ones that we have.

and so it really feels weird when some of you insinuate that jax being trans while also being a huge asshole is some like rep failiure. that's part of the premise of inclusion. trans people who are more mean than nice should get to be in the world of fiction, it strikes me as a strong rhetoric failiure to say you want equality, but that at the same time, trans people should be limited to certain roles in fiction.

a few times at work i genuinely yelled out in pain. that's something i would never do voluntarily. you people have the hearts of champions surviving this shit.

so much of my life the real world just feels like this garish synthetic nightmare, i feel so hard for red wanting to leave the nonsense and be free. and the way he's roped into these mediocre simulacra of what he wants and finally escapes, it is beautiful.

simulation theory says that there are two necessities for the world to be a simulation, first we'd need to imagine simulating a world like ours is possible, and second we'd have to imagine there exist societies that want to create simulations, and then that if those were true, then we would more likely exist in a simulation than a real world since there'd be too many

anyway, even if it is fairly believable that if simulations were possible we'd be more likely to live in a simulation, but it also implies there's a chance that, by pure coincidence, we would live in the only real world. we'd never know, either. simulation theories are based in last-thursdayism, you cannot prove or disprove a simulation by your observations, because it is based in the idea that anything you observe was invented to construct a narrative.

i don't know much about it. i think i basically understand that max is a mischevious bunny and sam is a professional. i know they got some point + click adventure games, i know they were a famous comic, and i know they got a short-lived cartoon.

i like all 3 of those forms of media, and sam + max feels like it's cut from the same cloth as a lot of the type of media i like, i'm a big fan of like early 2000's to 2010's naivete and optimism, and as much as i get the sense that sam + max was kinda like irreverant and cynical for its time, i bet to me as a modern audience it'll come off as a little tame.

i also kind of think it might have some of what i liked about homestar runner, although that is just a hunch.

ive never listened to this podcast, but i hear there was a cohost at the beginning from way back, are you guys fond of them

i was thinking about this today and i just think griffin would disintegrate hanging out with them

like, first of all they make a lot of racist jokes & i think if he had to be around for them he would shed a single tear

it would also be funny if travis mcelroy hung out with them, because i think he would either walk out on them and tell them their racist jokes make him SICK, or he would get weirdly offensive just to fit in with them

it's not even that hard a level i'm consistently making it to the huge barrel jump onto mister owl, but every fucking time no matter when i press the button it never works, is the jump broken or something. it isn't precise it just doesnt work ever.

edit: i am still super mad because i think the input responsiveness was annoyingly poor, but i figured it out + beat the level.
